What’s better?

Fabbro - 1 year @ 2.5M
Desharnais - 2 years @ 2M

Who’s better and who do you take with contracts into consideration?
VD has legitimate PK utility and size/toughness as a minimum upside. He needs to improve his skating and puck handling, but the margin is there where you can see he might become worth that salary during the term. He's already pretty close to Forbort.

Fabbro isn't close to what he's worth now, and would need to take massive steps to stick in the league given neither his offense or defense are good enough for his size. He's being waived from the 32nd team.

Neither player is worth their contract right now but I would take the roster player.

I would make that swap just to get out from that second year on VD and look for an upgrade on Fabbro later.

I am still in the camp that Fabbro is competent and just needs a chance to play. He’s an upgrade over Desharnais and Juulsen albeit Fabbro is a different defenseman. $2.5M is fine on a team that actually plays him. People talk about his cap hit like he’s being paid top 4 money. If you think he’s a #6/#7 type who shouldn’t be in the lineup on a regular basis then ya he’s not worth $2.5M. If you think he’s a solid NHL Dman who can handle #5 type minutes then $2.5M is fair. It’s kind of like with Ethan Bear. If you value his skills set he’s worth his cap hit. If he’s a guy you don’t necessarily want in the lineup full time and long term then you don’t touch that player.

It looks like Fabbro will bounce around like Stecher did.

How much have you watched him play? A few times per year when he’s in the lineup against the Canucks? Would you feel the same if he wasn’t highly drafted and from BC?

Tocchet needs to let Lekk do his thing. We desperately need secondary scoring and he is producing despite the plus minus.

Guessing the plan is for Silovs to get a start with Abbotsford, and maybe let Bains and Aman give them some offense, too. I’d imagine two or even all three will be back with the club before long.

Canucks need to have two active goalies on the roster which is where Young comes in.

That was Kuzmenko and we know how that went.

Why Young though why not Tolopilo. Feel as if Tolo has earned a days bump in wages over Young.

He needs to turn Lekkerimaki into a player who doesn't do stupid things at important times, while finding a way to get himself into position to finish plays......and then finishing them. If he can't do that within the confines of our defensive system, this stint will be brief.

Both contracts are below water right now but I might trade do this trade because Desharnais isn't really working out right now and at least Fabbro's contract expires at the end of the year.
