Not at $2.5mm when he'd be #10 on our depth charts. even at league min it wouldn't make sense for us. he's too slow and too small to be effective in the NHL.

I'm doubtful that he'll be picked up - very few teams have the cap room to do so, and he's not the guy you want to spend it on at this point in the season. If anyone wanted him they'd already have arranged to send salary back the other direction.

better than juulseen who should be sent to abby. fabro could be the extra 7th guy in case
Juulsen is a good penalty killer, very physical and costs less than 1/3 of what fabbro makes. Do you know what the cap space accrual impact is at the deadline if we go with a $775k defender over a $2.5MM defender? ~ $6.7MM.

2.5M on a 7th guy is not very smart cap management.

Picking him up would essentially mean we would have no cap space to do other/better things at the deadline, unless we give up another pick just to get rid of him down the line.

I could see CBJ picking him up. It's an organizational weakness and would free them up to send Jiricek to the AHL....or if nobody else claims him they can send him to Cleveland.

Bottom feeders absolutely should be picking him up. Give him soft 3rd pair deployment with a vet LD and then sell sell sell at the deadline......even if it's a 3rd or 4th well worth it especially if it's the last part of a 3 piece trade for a really good young player that can help them long term

Looking through the rosters, they are the only team that makes sense for him. Only two RHD on the roster and not a lot ahead of him on the depth chart. He’s UFA so it either works out and they extend or trade him or it doesn’t and he’s gone.

Anaheim has 1 RHD and are as shit as CLB. I'm sure most teams asked for a 2nd or 3rd to take him off their hands.

They were wrong on Sprong , who is now gone.

i mean at worse they rolled the dice on sprong and loss. it was clearly a gamble.

and it is worth considering whether they did it for other reasons. one would be to increase competition for a roster spot and maybe keep a prospect where they wanted him to be. another would be to have a guy to change the bottom six mix and stir the drink if the bottom six looks likely to be too "get pucks deep" for its own good.

While true they have a crowded defensive corps with 3 vets, a mid-range guy in Vaakainen, and three young players with several right handed options in the minors. Much more crowded than Columbus that kind of just has Jiricek.

Yeah they will need to sell at the end of it so that’s another guy to sell off by retaining cap

also depends how the mgmnt is gonna spend it. what if they put DEMKO on LTIR another extra 5million added. they could get another goalie to backup lankien. silovs isnt that guy sorry.

imo you got brannstrom and Desharnais as your project defensemen - you're full up. There's a relationship there and progress. No need for more project D.

What’s better?

Fabbro - 1 year @ 2.5M
Desharnais - 2 years @ 2M

Who’s better and who do you take with contracts into consideration?
