Hopefully the EP40 talk all a smokescreen to have the Rangers actually pony up actual assets. I’m afraid we’re just going to see this drag out longer with Friedman et al being the prime beneficiaries to the Canucks players’ and fans’ detriment.

(And ponying up means a useable piece (Schneider) and a (protected, if they’re giving Schneider) first to flip for a centre).

Only way I would prefer trading Pettersson over Miller is if it's a larger deal that gets us Barzal and Dobson. Islanders have to re-sign Dobson at the end of the year and may not want to commit bit money/term to him.

That is where the issue lies though. With all this talk about how hard it is to win these deals where you trade star players you're very very unlikely to get the ideal, match made in heaven deal

I have personally been envisioning the idea of moving parts of a Miller deal similar to how they did the Horvat deal to mold into what they need. I could deal with that if it brings unity back to the team and a fresh look.

If you trade Pettersson you're going to be doing what it seems Buffalo is now trying to do by getting Pettersson, but I don't know of any other playerd with that possible ceiling that could be available. These players don't tend to move and it's likely the sender and not the receiver regrets the deal.

I would personally be trying a lot of other things before going down the trade Pettersson route.

I don’t think so, because we have multiple sources who have said Pettersson to Carolina was almost a done deal yesterday (Dhaliwal said so, Friedman went as far as to say he thought he was going to be a Hurricane).

It’s foolish to believe that they are only going to only trade or the other.

Management has already made the decision that both need to go. In both cases it goes beyond their on-ice potential. They need to reset the culture and you can’t do that by keeping either.

Your post seemed to almost imply that he can’t bounce back here because of it ‘not being that simple’.

If they trade Pettersson, I look forward to the day JR/Allvin are fired.
My post just reads as i wrote - nothing about my personal opinion of whether or not he does it here or not

I think Barzal can be a star.

ep40 for byram +cozens+prospect+1st.

I have no real problem tearing the team apart as long as the returns are worth it. If you can do it now, get the wheels in motion, use the rest of the season to teach a system while integrating new players, then add in the off-season, maybe that creates a scenario like last season.

As has been said before, would really be threading the needle.
this is the way to go. just rip off the bandaid. there was a quote earlier during tonights game the expressions on the canucks players faces "screams I dont want to be here anymore" doesnt have to be specifically miller../ep maybe other guys

The Rantanen trade is an interesting juxtaposition to what the Canucks are doing. They traded a guy out of nowhere, telling nobody on the team they were even considering it, and may have now negatively impacted their room. The Canucks have leaked every single thing possible around their situation, and are trying to move someone to fix their room.

Tin foil hat alert: What if the reason Drury keeps trying to chisel us as hard as he is, is because of what happened with the negotiations over Vitali Kravtsov? Perhaps there's some lingering humiliation and resentment?

I think Colorado just punted their season unless they make another move.

I would be shocked if they didn't do more. They finally grabbed a goalie and have almost 6 million in cap. They are adding something good. Also think they dangle Middlestadt.

I don't really care anymore about Petey, only guy you keep is Hughes. Look at Rantanen, he's better than Petey and they just traded him. Anyone can be dealt. I want guys that live and breathe to be with the Canucks. Part of the reason I think so many love Zadorov was how much he was always talking about loving the team and city. We never hear that from these guys anymore.

Move Miller, move Pettersson, move Boeser, move Demko.

Find a way to get a Buffalo lottery pick in a Petey deal.

Also, the Caps are a great example of how quickly you can turn things around if you are well run.

I think they just extended their window. It was a smart move to free up cap space at the expense of downgrading from Rantenen to Necas and Drury even if they don't end up re-signing Necas. They had surplus offense and this rebalances them if anything.

canucks should look to trade garland, his value is probably the highest it can be

Yep. We should be looking to sell high. No point in keeping players around for feel goods. Revamp the team or if Garland is core design the team to play him in the top 6. Not a $5 mil 5'8" 3rd line checker.

I don’t think Kravtsov is important enough for anyone to hold a grudge over. I think Drury has just made enough boneheaded moves of late that he’s desperately trying to get a clear cut win.
