Carlo & geekie if Boston falters

(would settle for zad & Frederic)
For Miller? I like the Zad, Frederic thought, fits under the cap too. Too bad though Carlo would not be as good as Zad, he isn't now.
Zad's wife really liked Vancouver so he might wave to come here that and he is not getting a lot of fan love back there.
Geekie is good.

IMO it would almost have to be two different positions traded for otherwise comparisons are too easy to evaluate who won the trade.

It's eerie that you mention BOS. I've been thinking about a BOS trade for Miller here and I just know @bossram will hate it, but I'm doing it anyway. :)

Futures will have to be added to BOS's side:

Miller + Desharnhais for $750k AAV retention on Elias Lindholm and Brandon Carlo.

Lindholm is treated as a salary dump, which means Carlo isn't enough coming back, but that's the basis.

Rationale:

Lindholm is the Cozens-type of risk without the young player cost attached. VAN management had already prioritized Lindholm for $7m AAV, over Zadorov (iirc), they just couldn't get him to their number. This trade allows for that and gets them a shut down RHD (which I think is their ideal target).

This also allows the 2nd line to become 'Garland's line'. He can be tasked to handle the puck and Lindholm can be the shooter. It plays into each player's natural tendency.

Honestly, I didn't mind Lindholm by the end, but he seemed to perform best when he was behind Pettersson and Miller. I don't know how well he'd function playing true top-six minutes and not being used largely in a third-line, PK role.

Yes, I do hate it because it is really bad.

Lindholm is a disasterclass contract. Taking that back is crazy. Absolutely crazy

Lindholm is a Cozens type risk without any of the upside. It's just bad.

My half season retool:

JT Miller and Forbort to Boston for Zadorov, Zacha and a 1st 2025
Boeser (50% retained) and Pius Suter to NJD for Simon Nemec and a conditional 2025 2nd
Lankinen and Juulsen to Edmonton for Pickard and Conditional pick 2025 2nd converts to 2026 1st for a cup win and min games played for Lankinen.

Defence fixed.

Hughes Hronek
Zadorov Nemec
Soucy Myers
D Petey Willander

Target a guy like Timo Meier as a cap dump next year to add back scoring.

You could say that he was flanked by the team's 2nd best set of wingers in the playoffs, and produced 10 points in 13 games across all situations.

There is a definite risk involved here. He could struggle as he has in BOS, or as he did here early on.

I think I would rather get kicked in the nether regions than help the Oilers win a cup.

We have seen what this team can do when healthy. My preference is to run with both Miller and Petey for the rest of this season. Trade the first round pick for a top-4 D, hope that Hronek comes back strong and that Myers and Soucy can keep/regain their form (and potentially Willander as a safe option for bottom pair). If it does not work out, trade Miller in the off-season when he will have more time to consider situations that may be favourable to him and his family and more teams can be part of the trade market. I love Miller but I think the Canucks will badly regret trading Petey.

Yeah, I need dark mode. I cannot look at in all white.

I know it's no one's fault and it'll be ironed out but I find it overstimulating, personally.

My eyes hurt so much. Haven't tested since the site first came back up but if you set your PC/phone to default dark mode the website will be as well.

They are working on a dark mode but there's no timeline right now.

The upside is a return to from here. No different than the Zadorov premise.

The downside risk is that he remains what he has been in BOS.

Curious, what are you seeing in his underlying profile that keeps him a bad bet that cannot rebound? Edit: Must be the shot rate.
