Well would've been nice to win this but noone wanted to shoot at the goal. Now we get to beat Korea and then lose to a rested Canada the day after. 6/5

Yes but how many against Sweden? You know the, the main talking point right now. It doesnt' matter how many points he had agaisnt Germany and Norway when he had none against Sweden.
All point leaders on all teams on all leagues predominately have the majority of their points against a certain team along with bottom feeders.

Wait, are people actually saying Tolvanen played a bad game? That might be true if you enjoyed the match via radio, while it was muted.

Uhmm.. The onetimers against Norway and Sweden that happened at the last minutes of the match when the defender was too far to reach him in the 1st place? It's a valid criticism. I should have specified that his one-timers need work. The one that got through Haugen was due to Haugens bad awareness of where the shot was coming from.
You know, that if player keeps the puck instead shooting it right away, it's not onetimer..

We had this with Mario Gomez in the German football team. He scored plenty of goals when the game was basically decided. But he could magically avoid the net when it counted. It was almost surreal.

That's a good example. High level sports require so much mental strength and consistency.

Imo what puts Laine over Tolvanen moreso than size; is his mental clutch of being able to score no matter the situation (like the Liiga playoffs in his draft year and U20 finals etc).

I want someone to tell Peter Forsberg clutch doesn't exist

That's the point. He needs to be aware of what the situation is like. His one-timers really look like he's shooting with his eyes closed.

His one-timers are the best part of his game. He should blast those the instant he gets them, that's why its called a one-timer. Also he gets like 1 or 2 one timer chances per game because the only person in the team who knows how to pass one is Lepistö.

Like what the **** do you want? Do you want him to take control of the puck and then load for 10 seconds before blasting it?

There's one forward in the team who can one-time the puck, and you want him to stop?

I think most people would want him to work on the accuracy of his shot so he doesn't end up missing the target more than Kaisa Mäkäräinen.

Always that scramble at the end. In a way, one wonders, what if the finns would play like that from the begining?

ITT: People complaining that an 18 year old didn't carry the team 3rd game in a row while claiming that you can't have a good game if you don't score.
That's what happens when the teams best player is an 18-year-old playing with people below his skill level. It's not a shot at him, it's a shot on the team.

Oh yes.. Leading scorer in Finnish team, just shoots eyes closed.. Those three assists must have come from rebounds.. :)

Blasting a one-timer is almost never a bad play...

If the puck goes wide it goes wide. You'll be disappointed if you expect a player - any player - to hit the net every time he blasts it.

I think Finland has a better chance winning against ora and Canada than Sweden. Their style of play works better than the Swedish system. Will root 4u.

I'm pretty sure that RUS & SWE are already in semifinals... Their path seems rather easy. Russia got really lucky. RUS will get the winner of Slovenia and Norway to get to semifinal and sweden has to beat SUI/GER.

It is when your accuracy is what Eeli has. He is a pure volume shooter and you cannot prove otherwise. He shoots until he hits the net, and doesn't really slow down if he has a little opening to shoot. A thing NSH needs btw.

That's just the brutality of a short tournament. If you can't score when it really matters, it won't mean squat how many points you scored vs the other teams. At Euro 2016, everyone was ragging on Ronaldo for not scoring in the group stage but he was scoring whne the knock- out stage began. I wouldn't mind if Tolvanen had fewer points in the touranemtn if he had scored today.

I've always thought that hockey was a team game. A game where one individual can't do much without proper support. That's what makes it so great.

WJC 2016 wasn't just Laine. It was Laine, Puljujärvi & Aho. And when those guys didn't score when it would've mattered (Against Sweden), Hintz and Rantanen stood up and did their part.
