Probably not. Yes he left his feet, but it was shoulder to chest first. Also he's a smaller guy, impact could have played a factor.

Canadian fan, Leafs fan, Marner fan and that hit by Marner looks like a head shot to me. He jumped up, there's no question of that and certainly looks like a head shot.

Should be at least a 1 game suspension. I do think the hit on Nylander was worse but to be honest that could be the Leafs fan in me. (kind of like how Bruins fans are)

He should be based on the standard they have set with head contact. He jumped and planted his shoulder into the Swede's face. That Swiss player didn't jump, had just as much head contact as on this one, but because of the speed involved it looked far more dramatic. Since the Swede wasn't hurt, he'll probably get away with it.

It's debatable. I don't think Marner flew back several feet of his own volition after contact...or is that what you're suggesting?

Everything I've heard from Swedes have been positive, to be honest. But I haven't exactly scoured all interviews and media outlets.

Is the hit even under review by the IIHF?! This whole suspension thing started because one poster said he's not gonna be here for the QF. I've seen nothing that suggests that the IIHF are reviewing the hit. TSN would have been all over this if this is the case

Yup, I don't think a suspension's coming. I see that as Marner trying to throw a big open ice hit. Knowing the type of player he is I'm almost positive there's no intent. I don't think an injury was sustained on the play either, which is usually taken into consideration.

What we really should be discussing is why the hell of all players on this team that felt he needed to make a big hit to wake up the boys, it had to be a skill player of Marners stature.

really don't know, jumping when hitting is highly prohibited. i believe it all depends if target injured or not.

Huh? There is no hatred. Your response is pretty fitting to all my points. If it isn't glowing praise of him, it is hate. Everything I said is true. Stop seeing it as hate and more like, hey, maybe we should temper expectations and stop setting irrational expectations for this guy. Give him a chance to play before glorifying him as the next savior.

Of course Canadian media aren't going to publicize and promote the illegal hit all over social media and their websites. They don't want Marner getting suspended.
