I honestly think the best game this team has played so far was the 7-6 win over the Swedes. At least they looked like a dominant team for 40 minutes.

Gone straight downhill since the exhibition, while you would expect the team to improve.

A Finland/Canada quarter-final is looking very likely. One team with high hopes is going to be very, very disappointed.

So it looks like Canada is unfortunately poised to finish third in the division. Still think we have a good shot at gold if Lowry can improve asset management

I agree. I think people are overreacting, we played a back to back and clearly had the better chances this game. It's not like we lost the game either.

Remember Team Canada at the Olympics? I think it was Latvia? Took us like 55 minutes to beat them, and that was arguably the best team Canada has ever produced. It happens, people need to relax.

To me Marner needs to simplify his game. You do not get extra assists for pretty plays nor is this a one man team. He also needs to stop cheating on shifts by staying out there too long. I counted atleast 5 shifts he stayed out too long. He has the talent, he can be a factor as the games get more important.

Play more we, rather then me. A simple play like he did the other night on Quenville goal was a good example. Is just as good as a highlight wow goal.

If he can shorten his shifts, make more simple plays, play a more team game. I think the criticisms will go away.

Population has a great deal to do with it. I guarantee there's more rinks in USA/Russia/Sweden than all of Canada combined.

Canada along with Finland are the only top countries in the world which has hockey as the number 1 sport, which has a great deal to do with it.

And most people considered him a steal at the time. He was ranked top 10 in quite a bit of lists, this isnt really a surprise.

Most Flyers fans felt NJ would take Barzal at #6 but wanted him if available...if we didn't go for a Dman.

Finland losing would be a bigger disappointment than Canada losing as Finland was supposed to be one of the top 3 teams this year.

USA, Sweden, Finland were supposed to be the big teams this year.

The Czech's look sneaky good, so maybe they will appear in Semi's.

Definitely not Canada this year though.

Very surprising that Canada gave away the group win there. But they tend to lay an egg against the Swiss now and then don't they? Maybe not in jr competition, but I've seen some other upsetting point loses against Switzerland. Canada should win almost every game against Switzerland pretty easily, but they don't.

What I'm trying to say, is that I think Canada is better than this result suggest.

Yeah, it's the number 1 sport....

But the number 1 sport in a country with 35M people still probably has less players than the number 3 sport in a population of 140M - 300M+.

Also, hockey is the number one sport in Russia too... maybe Sweden too? (Not sure about Sweden - what else are they known for?)

On Russia:

According to a survey made in 2015 by the biggest sport portal, the six most popular sports are in order ice hockey (31% of the votes), football (21%), bandy (14.3%), which is the only discipline to have official support of the Russian Orthodox Church [3], biathlon (11.6%), auto racing, (6.1%) and figure skating (4.7%)

Switzerland always comes out hard against Canada.

Soccer quite easily for both.

Hockey is #2 in Russia

alot of players are out there way too long. Its ignorant to only point on Marner.

Canada has about 8-9 times more players than Russia. And hockey definitely is not the number one sport in Russia.

Soccer is a clear number one in Sweden and Russia.

I don't get the Marner hate ... He definitely wasn't the worst player on the team ..( I think that was Perlini , and I am a Coyote's fan). I think they should have put him out on OT earlier rather than later.. He did have a few turnovers.. but so did everyone else...He actually saved a goal a couple of times ..

Strome needs some more offensive people on his line ... It is good to see his line have the most offensive chances considering who the wingers are..

I think they need to spread the offence around a bit.. Maybe switch Virtanen with konecny or Gauthier etc.. as someone suggested earlier..

Ya, I'm not sure what game people were watching. Marner wasn't great and had a couple of turnovers but not as many as some and actually created some chances out there unlike many players. The coach needs to settle in lines, switching wingers every few shifts on Marner-Point's line doesn't do much for chemistry. I wouldn't mind seeing Konecny put on that left side if he can play LW. It would be a small line, but with his motor I feel like you would have a better cycle and more chances.

I don't think going with Provorov was a bad idea lol

Oh not at all. We wanted Provorov if we went D, then liked Connor at F the most but we thought Barzal would be off the board.

Personally, I wanted Provorov. I am quite happy.

Oh...and Lowry is going to cost Canada if he does not change things up to a more balanced attack and icetime.

Lowry overplayed Marner and you can't do that with big ice. He was gassed by OT.

Crouse-Strome-Virtanen were very strong in the third, they should keep that line together.
All this very much.

That line was really good in the third. Some great chances for everyone on that line but couldn't finish.

On a side note, I really liked Gauthier. I'd like to see him on a line with Point and Konecny.

Crouse Strome Virtanen
Perlini Barzal Marner
Gauthier Point Konecny

I like that.
