It's really weird...even Reaves completely stopped fighting and being physical after 3 games.

To be fair, that happened in Pittsburgh too when the Penguins got him from St. Louis. The man hardly fought after the first few games there as well. Maybe the Leafs have a similar culture hee that the Penguins had/have there.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Tavares retires after next year.
If he wants to come back and they want him, it will have to be a minimum contract for a 35 year old who can’t keep up.

I don't know if this is delusion or some made up story to get some confidence. I am completely f***ing lost for words

no point in being mad at these guys, if they truly believe that, then they are deluded into thinking they are good. You don't get mad at deluded people, you feel bad for them and sometimes try to talk them through their delusions

This is fixable guys.. Calm down

We just need a real coach. A real leader.

Been telling you guys that for 6 years now. Anything Dubas related needs to go away. Including his friend he gave a job to that half the ppl on this board could do a better job of.
I'd add to this the need for a legitimate, in his prime, top pairing right handed defenseman to play with Rielly, so the pair can play 25 minutes per night when need be. That would cement an excellent top 4, IMO, of...

Rielly / Addition
McCabe / Liljegren

Imagine for a second if you added a right handed version of Zack Werenski, at 26 years old, just coming into his prime, signed for 4 more years beyond this one, at $9.5 million per year. Send Marner the other way in the deal, free up some cap space, while re-balancing your roster and running 29 year old Morgan Rielly and that guy together for the next 5 years. Meanwhile Jake McCabe and Timothy Liljegren could play together every night to round out your top 4.

Probably because we keep bending over and paying them like they’re the greatest players to ever lace them up.

No other team pays so much for so little
Because our coach is a bitch

Give a coach one way players, and team suffers defensively. Also maybe changing the D coach wasn't a good idea either.

Dubas left is up shits creek with goalies. Kinda his thing.

You can't discount the fact we've been rolling a 3rd string goalie

But man you gotta recognize there is some issues. If you are so deluded that there are no issues; then you will never try to find any solutions because there are no issues to begin with

this is some next level delusion. I am seriously shocked at how these guys haven't learned anything yet

I am convinced this team needs to trade or let go 2/4 of the core.

Doesn't matter how good they are as individuals. Just a weird mindset around all of them as a group and Marner's post-game comments say it all about how they view the game.

Extremely talented but there's an obvious entitlement attitude this team has.

You'd think with the way they talk and act they'd have won numerous cups.

This is a fair point .. the Leafs' sacrificed offensive more more defensive-minded depth in recent years. But notably, depth scoring was an issue.

So they try to reverse course, probably in an extreme way, and it looks bad.

Wow, that's amazing. A complete lack of self-awareness, even from someone like Marner who puts his foot in his mouth on a regular basis, that's ... amazing.

Should go post that in the Marner appreciation thread, I'm sure his fanboys would appreciate his greatness.

I was so mad when we waived Hainsey.

IMO Marner and Nylander are not significantly different than each other. Options are:

1) you keep nylander and let marner walk (marner will never waive is nmc/ntc) or
2) you trade nylander for a good return for a retool and re-sign marner for 12 to 12.5 AAV

Tavares as far as I am concerned, unless he is taking the Gio deal on a league minimum; thanks but no thanks Tavares has run his course. He can't keep up with the pace of the game. I'd use JT like Spezza -> face-off and PP specialist and thats it. if not - thanks for your services good bye!

Agreed to the plan for this season and next season. Sign one year deals in the offseason and then unload them at the TDL. We need a solid 2 year re-tool; no quick fixes. This will also give youngster a chances to develop a bit and they will be available on ELCs in their 3rd year where Leafs can push. That means we would have wasted 1 year of Matthews new contract but it is what it is.
I think we might have to take option 1, and regret it in the short-term. Again, core HAS to change so if he won't waive, we let him walk. Would suck, but better for the org in the long run. I'd prefer option 2, as I think Marner has a better two-way game than Willy.

I'm torn on JT. Is this really it. We've all seen the decline coming. I am hoping this is his seasonal dip. He was moving okay tonight, but still making poor plays with the puck in the defensive zone. I mean, at the end of the contract, this really is it, I agree with your assessment and plan.

The only problem with "our" two-year plan, is me accepting it and just cheering on the team for fun. I guess, go for any and all individual records over the next season and a half. Then shit should get real.

What an unfortunate balloon buster this core has turned into.

Maybe they win the next 5 and we are all in again lol
