i disagree with the last statement, keefe doesn't need to be fired to save him from the situation, he needs to be fired because not only is he awful rn, but its been long overdue

I'm realizing that all new teammates who get airlifted in every year simply will not stick up for, or sacrifice themselves for, the entitled Core Fore. ROR actually made this clear.

Continuing on, down this path seems pointless to me.
  • I would ride out this season as-is, re-sign no-one who expires this season, refresh the roster with cheap as f*** assets because we already know trying to win next season is as pointless as it would be this season.
  • Keep all the assets unless they are sure they have some depreciating ones (Robertson maybe).
  • Then big retool for the 25-26 season sans Marner and maybe JT.
  • Build out the d-core if possible or as best as you can with the new monies and hope you can fill out the roster with the right players to make a difference come playoff time.

As others are saying, at this rate, I doubt they make the playoffs. I would not be the least bit surprised if this is an 0-4 road trip. Home game vs Jets is almost a guaranteed loss for this group with the 'first game after a long road trip' and "reasons' built in. So that is 5-in-a-row and we are not chasing the wild card pack.

Lots of doom and gloom, but also trying to be realistic by what I am seeing.

IMO Marner and Nylander are not significantly different than each other. Options are:

1) you keep nylander and let marner walk (marner will never waive is nmc/ntc) or
2) you trade nylander for a good return for a retool and re-sign marner for 12 to 12.5 AAV

Tavares as far as I am concerned, unless he is taking the Gio deal on a league minimum; thanks but no thanks Tavares has run his course. He can't keep up with the pace of the game. I'd use JT like Spezza -> face-off and PP specialist and thats it. if not - thanks for your services good bye!

Agreed to the plan for this season and next season. Sign one year deals in the offseason and then unload them at the TDL. We need a solid 2 year re-tool; no quick fixes. This will also give youngster a chances to develop a bit and they will be available on ELCs in their 3rd year where Leafs can push. That means we would have wasted 1 year of Matthews new contract but it is what it is.

There is a tonne more wrong with the Leafs than 6.9 Nylander.

If there is one complaint I'd make about the previous GM it's that he didn't draft more than 1 smart defender.

What a disaster in their own zone.

Rielly had an off night, coasting several times throughout the game. Tired, injured, too much cache.

I think Domi needs to play a little more. I dunno what Bert's got going on... but he's very ineffective right now.

I did. Domi has played on like 12 different teams. Everyone passes on him right away because he sucks. Bertuzzi is a stone cold moron.

It has, but people seem to forget that the cap stopped growing too... those signings were done with cap growth in mind, including Tavares. We got fckd by the static cap, no other way around it.

We can complain about the signings, but if that cap kept growing, we keep guys like Hyman, and prob have some space to build out a better D-core.

It's honestly not weird at all. Reaves blows ass but put yourself in his position (or the position of any 'physical' guy they've brought in over the years). Everyone else on the team drags their asses around the ice, don't stick up for each other, don't play hard, don't play with intensity. Would you? It starts at the top and trickles its way down. f*** this country club f***heap of a hockey team.
 
Fun game. Is what it is. When you play for the tie every game instead of using your offensive weapons to win 5-1 instead of 2-1. Bad breaks happen. Same thing happens to this team in the playoffs. Score 2 or less you will be on the wrong end of a lot of games you should win.
