lmao at thinking that any contender would want Bertuzzi and Domi anywhere near their teams. only NewGM would sign such players.

That decision should have been made before signing Nylander, the only piece they had control over that's worth anything significant at deadline. I said it 20 times. Now they're locked into this group for many years and soon, it's the Marner decision. This is a nightmare scenario.

We are firmly in the worst case scenario for Shanahan’s rash decision to fire Dubas with only weeks to prepare for the draft and free agency, along with deciding whether to re-sign and commit to this core or beginning to dismantle them and changing course.

A lot of us were very wary of Treliving’s hiring, especially since it seems he was the only guy Shanahan even seriously considered. The man has swung and missed on damn near everything he did last off-season. All the free agents he signed on July 1 and 2 stink and trading Lafferty to keep Reaves was brutal. This franchise is in a horrible spot and I don’t trust Shanahan or Treliving to guide us out of it.

Let’s start a conglomerate and buy the Leafs. I will pitch 50k. By my math we’ll only need about 49,999 more people to pitch.

Brodie, Gio, McCabe, Tavares, Robertson, ridiculously high AAVs on RFA deals, completely screwed up cap structure, entitlement culture, etc... and worst of all not a lot of draft capital left

and yes of course: Keefe

the dubas footprint will take time to undo

.. Where does Robertson fit in here?

So you knew how those signings would work out?

I think they were exactly the kind of players we needed to add. I can't explain why they suck right now, but they do. IF they were playing like they had just last season, they would be the signings of the summer. Hard to predict. And too early to call it a mistake.

I think Domi needs to play a little more. I dunno what Bert's got going on... but he's very ineffective right now.

Yeah how is it that Bertuzzi was solid for Detroit, really good for Boston, and now he's a potato with us?

Agree about Domi. I think we're getting good value from him already, but he probably deserves more ice-time

4 in a row goaltending has blon.

You need proof?

look at the 2-1 goal.

Imagine a save from the gutless cowards that call themselves goalies

You are so obsessed with the goaltending now, and attempting to prove you are right, that you completely have lost any ability to see the team in front of them. Jones played lights out for much of the game, and if it wasn’t for him, we likely get destroyed.

We gave up 19 High Danger shots against. 19...

3.75 expected goals against, 3 goals against.... 0.75 Saves above expected.

The team sucked in front of him... he did his part overall....

The team isn't good enough... wouldn't matter who was in net... so misguided.

I said it once I'll say it again

No other team in the NHL has blown more fu*king leads than this team over the last 5 years

somebody do the research and find those stats
This team lost to a 40 year old zamboni driver, the problem is that as Leafs fans we've learned to laugh off insanely embarrassing things, but that might take the cake in the history of sports.

Having top end NHL players lose to an out of shape, 40+ year old zamboni driver may actually be the greatest blowout in the history of professional sports.

Same core is still here, more paid than ever and lazier than ever.

This team's not going anywhere as long as they keep playing soft on D. Simple as that! The right side is awful.

Mitch is talking nonsense postgame. Very immature.
Mitch oozes loser energy, which is why he gets his baby cheeks clapped every playoff. His defining career playoff moment will be crying in the box against the juggernaut Canadian division Habs, after shooting the puck over the glass. We should enshrine his sulking puss on Legends Row.

The only realistic play that they have is trade nylander who can still be moved. He is also a signed asset so that may return decent pieces.

Next season I would have said tank but that pos dubas already traded our 1st rounder for next season but since tavares is here no option but to let the season run its course unless tavares wants to develop an allergy that hossa did go on LTIR and collect his paycheck

Dubas effed the Leafs so hard its not going to be an easy fix whatsoever
I feel it is Marner who goes. Whether it is a trade or he walks after his contract is up... we either get assets or we get cap space or a little of both. I thought JT would sign for 7, if he continues at this pace, it can't be for more than 4 or he walks. Again, cap space recaptured.

Continuing on, down this path seems pointless to me.
  • I would ride out this season as-is, re-sign no-one who expires this season, refresh the roster with cheap as f*** assets because we already know trying to win next season is as pointless as it would be this season.
  • Keep all the assets unless they are sure they have some depreciating ones (Robertson maybe).
  • Then big retool for the 25-26 season sans Marner and maybe JT.
  • Build out the d-core if possible or as best as you can with the new monies and hope you can fill out the roster with the right players to make a difference come playoff time.

As others are saying, at this rate, I doubt they make the playoffs. I would not be the least bit surprised if this is an 0-4 road trip. Home game vs Jets is almost a guaranteed loss for this group with the 'first game after a long road trip' and 'reasons' built in. So that is 5-in-a-row and we are now chasing the wild card pack.

Lots of doom and gloom, but also trying to be realistic by what I am seeing.
