Even with a Manchester contract he becomes UFA on August 15th. Then if only signed to Manchester he could be signed by any other team at any time next year, though I really doubt he'd make it to August 17th as UFA if the Kings fail to sign him.

So, this signing basically buys kings/Gravel more time to negotiate?

Yes

Otherwise there is simply no reason for either of them to have bothered signing a contract. Gravel was seen as the top Dman coming out of the NCAA this year, nothing has changed that. That said hockey is a business and while both sides want a deal anything is possible. But like I said there isn't any reason for Gravel or the Kings to have had him sign a contract if the intent isn't to keep him on the team.

Devils fan coming in peace. How credible is John Hoven? Is he one to make up rumors? I ask that because of the recent Kovalchuk rumors. P.S. Go Kings, **** the Rangers

He has legit sources, but he was flat out wrong numerous times this year.

Ok, thats what I presumed. A lot of times though reporters actually do tell the truth, but the talks behind the scene fall through ala Eklund. It's the top insiders who don't spit out every deal they hear until it's almost a done deal. He also mentioned his rumor was confirmed by the best insider in the NHL not named McKensie. I'm guessing he means Duthie or Friedman from looking at some of his radio interview

Personally, I enjoy reading it all, but you really need to know who's the real deal and who isn't. I would say the Mayor is better than average when it comes to rumors, but he's an extremely good source for Kings news.

There are lots of credence to the Kovalchuk rumors. Lots of respectable people talking about it and tons of KHL reports on the matter. I think there is at least a little smoke. Hoven is a solid guy who does a really good job. I don't think anyone is ever always right.

If Kovy returns to NJ, they need to forfeit that 1st round pick again. Still never understood why they got one back.

I fear we are going to lose Gravel
Yeah, you want to be careful about that.

DL's going to sign him after the draft to protect from teams asking for KG in a trade... DL can also pull the whole I can't trade my D prospects because I don't know what's going to happen with KG!!!

Ok... It's late... and this is just for some levity before game 5...

THE guy said Justin Williams would be gone off the Kings by the Trade dead-line for two+ years now......

Yah.

Was Gravel on the ice to lift the cup with the rest of the rooks, didn't see him but I may have been celebrating to much. You would think after being included in that celebration the rooks will be hitting the gym and training hard this summer. Great first taste

First off let me say a very big congratulations to the Kings. Absolutely love the way they play the game of hockey. What the Devils as an organization strive to be. With that being said, the ruling was revoked because of the change of new ownership. Bettman thought it was unfair to put the punishment on new owners. Now whether I believe that's the actual cause or not, we'll never know. If Bettman wants to be consistent with his reasoning though, the Devils should not have to forfeit the pick.

Can the Kings force Gravel to arbitration? I have no idea what the CBA rules for arbitration are, so I don't know if that's even an option...

Same as before, Kings want Gravel to earn a Contract, Gravel keeping his options open.

Signed for Manchester, will show up. End of story.

When can other teams start waving contracts under his nose? Does his Manc contract stop another nhl team come july the 1st?

Ah, noticed above

I don't think that's end of story. He is an NHL UFA on August 15th (Manchester contract doesn't matter). Hard to believe no team will give him an offer then.

Sure but Gravel has to want play for that team, If it's Florida or
EDM come calling. I doubt Gravel signs a contract in those places.

There is some factors to consider, I expect Gravel to play his contract in Manchester next season.

Both sides are keeping options open, it's good.
