And what did Hasek win alone? Nothing.

Skaters > goalies all day every day. If you're a good team the puck is in the other end over half the game...

I said SINGLE most important prospect player and you keep trying to make it plural. Name the skater (singular) who carried a team to the Cup.

CARRYING a team. Look at the 98-99 Sabres roster. Heck, name their #1 D man or any D dmen. Name the HOF skater or even the top point getter. Dom won the Vezina with a .937% save percentage while playing in 64 games. The only goalie to play in 60+ games to accomplish such a feat. In the post season he upped that to .939%

McDavid is the single greatest player in this League. He has great line talent around him (arguably top 10) and they have done nothing. Hasek went further with less.

I am not trying to bag on Ozzie, but the Wings could not win until they had Vernon, and they had a ton of talented skates. In 02, they brought in Hasek. They also brought in in Joseph. The Avs could not win, with a ton of great skates, until they picked up Roy. Boston, Time Thomas (look at his year).

IF a team KNEW a goalie would be Hasek like of Vaz like, etc. they'd be tops on th list in the draft. However, this just cant be projected with goalies so they drop down the list.

But hey, take that skater. Heck Boston did with Ray Bourque and he took them to the .... oh wait. LOL

For those who are curious, I added the sabre roster.

None have. And certainly no goalie. Goalies can't win anything. All they can do is delay a loss.

And of the goalies named who has 2 Cups as a starter? Oh right, it's Osgood... Not to mention, Vernon was brought in after Osgood's rookie year. You might want to brush up on your hockey referencing to put a better timeline of events together. Like the Avs winning the Cup their first year in existence...

The single most important thing with goalies is to not have a bad one. Good enough, is by definition good enough.

Griffs up 3-1. Again controlling the play

How’d he look tonight? How was his overall game?

He's looked so good since the Griffins turnaround

Puck hound would be an understatement. Miserable to play against and an incredible motor. He takes it from you and won't give it back. I've been surprised with his smarts with the puck. We got a player

What do you guys think of Albert Johansson? DET seems to have a ton of D prospects, but any shot for him there?

He might currently be the best Dman in GR. Winged Wheel Podcast did an interview with someone, think it was a reporter covering the Griffins and he had that to say.

I know that our attention and our future still rests on Edvinsson reaching his otherworldly potential, but AlJo is far too overlooked on these boards. He is just a flat out good defenseman who "gets it". He's smart, smooth, and just is... good at everything. Like we speak about ASP or Ed in how they stand out with thier otherworldly moves or massive frame and coordination - like if both of them are 10's in those respective areas; AlJo is like 7-8 across the board. He can skate, he can shoot (really underrated shot), he can pass and make those clever little dangles that ASP makes (not as well but does it), and his defensive game is just loads more polished at this point and he likes to hit - he is strong. On top of it all, he plays both the Left and Right. His low maintenance, versatile, and really smart polished game is going to be just an awesome addition to our Top 4 for years. We talk about Ed and Mo, ASP has certainly caught all of our attention, AlJo is as much of a future cornerstone piece in my eyes to round out that 4 as those other 3. I expect him to be full time next year in the NHL without question and if he hadn't had his injury last season and had to work back from that - he probably would've taken a spot this last year. Can't wait for him to get up to the Wings

That's all well and good, but the Wings don't like D without NHL experience, doesn't have to be any good just experienced, so he can get f***ed.

I suspect you're probably saying this partly for dramatic effect as the obvious retort to this is Seider, but you're more frustrated that the Wings aren't playing the kids more (Ed, AlJo, etc.).

As much as I love AlJo, could I definitively say at this point that he would be able to outperform Seider, Walman, Chariot (PK), Ghost (PP) consistently (i.e. able to maintain intensity and execution game in and game out, etc.) ... I wouldn't say that would be the case at this point.

That's not to say that I think any of those veterans are more talented than Ed or AlJo, not even close and in two years it's going to be a wildly different story but given the choice where Ed's major knock at this point is he struggled with consistency, and engaging night in and night out (a critique of his back in the SHL, and one kind of intimated at in TC this year), he needs to learn how to be Ed every night - not a major shocker for a uber-talented prospect; and AlJo literally had season ending surgery and missed his chance at a long callup last year and it sounds like it took him the first half of the AHL season to regain his confidence and get back to playing like he was last year. (The Dynamic Duo and the Death of a Bromance (on the ice))

I'm sure you know all of this, but I don't think it's due to any real biased towards veteran players and hating prospects. Veterans with a few seasons under their belt are going to give you more predictability and consistent output; they kind of are what they are. Once Ed and Al get there, I'm sure Stevie will not hesistate to get them in and move on from the current corp of D.

I’d say you are overcompensating here more than anyone is overlooking him.

In my opinion, there is one reason Johansson is 23 years old and hasn’t played an NHL game yet. It’s his frame. Until we see him play in the NHL, we have no idea what he will or won’t be.

Yes, he has talent and ability. He’s also basically the same size as Gus Nyquist while playing defense.

We are a rebuilding team that hasn't sniffed the playoffs in seven years. Rotating kids in and out and testing them is far more important than whatever level of "predictability" that Holl or Ghost or Petry give you this one season. The future is far more important than the now. And Yzerman has always stated that. His actions don't match his words. What sense does it make to not test AlJo before his waiver exemption runs out? To protect Holl? Really?

We are treating the kids as if we were a powerhouse.

Mm, I think that's a fair point but I believe the plan was to get AlJo up last spring before he had his season ending injury. Given his recovery and him taking time before really heating up again, I think for him it was really a question of bad timing. I think what you are suggesting was their plan it was just derailed. I don't know if any one realllllly gives a sh*t about Holl, or Ghost, or whomever. To your point - the future is far more important than the now. I would expect AlJo to be the call up here to do what it is what you are suggesting at this point.

You really think it's his frame that's keeping him out of the NHL at this point? I hadn't heard his size being a concern up to this point either in height or weight or looking like he's being pushed around out there but maybe? Do you feel like this is an Adam Almquist situation?

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Edvinsson has gotten NHL games already and Johansson hasn’t. They are at opposite end of the spectrums when it comes to NHL frames.

I think there is a wide range of outcomes for what Johansson could be in the NHL. He could absolutely become a good player, he has some good tools to his game. The risk you run with him is that he’s a tweener in the NHL. Not a power play guy, not a penalty kill guy, and a guy who will look overmatched physically against certain teams. I could see him being a middle pair guy for us in a few years, a middle pair guy for someone else in a few years a la Jensen, or I could see him back in Sweden in a few years. None of those would surprise me at all.

Having a plan interrupted and just scrapping it rather than finding a way to execute it later is not a good look. Adapt and overcome.
