B+. I’m notoriously hawkish at the deadline but to be able to make small adds similar to the ones that succeeded in 2022 and keep the first this year is huge. Recoup the picks by dealing some excess which Drury has done before. They had a good deadline regardless of the playoff outcome.

He also put the onus on the core, which is absolutely the right move. No more firsts for “perfect fits” to bail out Mika, Kreider and Panarin. Nut up time.

This is such a weird take. Drury got bent over by giving away a 4th round pick like 4 years from now? It's literally like a 7th rounder this year. It has almost zero value.

With Trouba out for a while, I think we could see a significant improvement in the D. I am excited to see what Schneider can do in an increased role.
This sometimes is how players get promoted, remember when Trochek was out and Chytil jumped in his spot, he never let it go. Maybe this is Schneiders time

So why didnt he trade a 7th rojnder this year. A 4th is a 4yh not a seventh. U know why. Bc it has more value.

And where is this trouba being out for a while. Is this confirmed or just specilation?

Voted B. They didn’t do anything that will put this team over the hump (not that that option was really available) but we’re still able to strengthen the team with minimal loss.
My sentiment exactly

I wish there were parts to make us an Lambo...

we're not a Lambo

We're a better Mustang tho.

Not a Shelby... but...

Wait... where am I going with this again?

Oh minimal losses... yeah

I’m not sure what the best thing to do this TDL was. Last chance for this core, so go big. Core isn’t good enough, so why waste assets. I see both sides. But the actual value of the trades were excellent.

Do you know how easy it is to recoup a 4th rounder in a future year? If they really want someone at that spot it's a piece of cake and can often be had for like a combination of a 6th and 7th. You're really overthinking this.

Yes, it's confirmed. But that wasn't in response to you, it was a separate though. HF just combined two posts into one.

We didn't give up anything major. We traded for a solid 3C who could likely be re-signed in the event Chytil isn't good to go next year.

I think Roslovic get moved to the win and for a 4th, that's a great move.

Lindgren will inevitably go down in the playoffs and having depth is good.

If Zibenjad somehow returns to form and Igor keeps up this level of play, we can keep up with anyone, even with the wonder twins on the back end.

Giving Drury a bad grade because he didn't do anything with Lindgren and Trouba, when that was realistically not an option, is asinine.

I like the idea of keeping out stuff, but on the other hand like all of our enemies made substantial upgrades especially Hurricanes and Panthers
I actually think the hurricanes may have just self imploded themselves.
They added risk/reward guys. Guentzel's made his living with a generational player. He's good without him in a very small sample size. He also doesn't play a great defensive game for a coach who's gonna need that.
And Kuz hasn't been good in ages, playing for the same type of coach in carolina that he couldn't stand in washington. And he's just coming off rehab.

Florida absolutely added and crushed the deadline, but they've gotta get 8 wins from either Tor/Bos/TB/Det

I dont think theyll exit the 2nd rd the same squad.

No team who's ever "won" the deadline has ever won a cup. I think alot of it is chemistry. Its why I was more ok last year with adding guys who'd had known chemistry.

The team is better without giving up much.

It was a sound deadline leaning in the direction that most successful modern deadlines are going to go.

Statistically, making a huge move doesn't make the difference. You're either good enough or you're not, and then you either get the bounces or you don't.

I've made it clear that I'm not optimistic about the team's chances, but nothing they could have done today was fixing the main reasons for that.

They filled the holes that were reasonably there to be filled today.

Would have voted D if it was available. No stupid trades but horribly misread the market and did not identify that the defense was the biggest problem. Don’t think the assets that were traded were traded effectively. Think the ceiling is about the same as it was at the start of the season
The defense might be the "biggest problem" but you're blocked by NTC's and you'd destroy team chemistry. Two of the most liked guys in the room are Trouba and Lindgren, they are not mid-season moves.

The defense can’t be upgraded, Lindgren and Trouba need to be downgraded, which will never happen.

Sometimes you have to make a tough move. Either way, the ceiling on this team has not been raised

I personally think you’re going to see a revolving door of Roslevic, Vesey, Kakko, and maybe even Wennberg on Ace and Gary’s right wing. Also having Edstrom and Rempe off the team changes the dynamic of the team as well. Are they both inexperienced and not trustworthy? Yes. But that size and physicality is needed in the playoffs and wears teams out. A Goodrow Vesey Brodzinski line doesn’t scare anymore. And the defensive pairs need to be changed but won’t.

its fine. team is probably not going anywhere until the defense is overhauled but there was no way to do that this season. we picked up 3 NHL-quality players without giving up much, it'll give us a better chance at least.

We sure as hell played it safe, so I'm ready to be whelmed by the rest of this season and playoffs.

Can't be lower than a B/B+. He did what most wanted on here. Don't overpay and don't trade any of the top prospects.
Especially for rentals. He covered some of the positional holes. Now it's up to the Stars of this team like Mika/Panarin/Fox/Shesterkin to make it happen.

Gave a "B." He didn't do any major damage. But did he do enough to help? It's meh.

But, as some others have said, there are structural problems with this roster that will need to be dealt with in the off-season.

Until then I'll hope the new guys mesh well and that some of the others remember how to hockey. LGR!
