Panarin also had a very good all-around game. I have been hammering him recently but credit where its due. Now he needs to do it every game instead of every 3 weeks.
I wouldn't re-anoint him just yet. He still does a lot of unsightly and lackadaisical things.

My tweak to the lines (while accounting for Gallant’s stubbornness)

Laf Mika Kakko
Panarin Chytil Goodrow
Kreider Trocheck Kravtsov
Vesey Brodzinski Gauthier
Blais

I see zero reason for Blais to be playing over anyone. And Brodzinski does bring speed
Its painfully obvious that Blais is a shell of his former self. That knee injury was devastating.

And while I feel for the guy and would love for him to work things out and be a part of this team I agree there are a few other options I'd rather have in his spot. Vesey would be perfect on that wing. Even Rydahl would provide more speed on the forecheck. Blaid just floats around and tries his best to mix things up physically if can actually get to a player in time. Thats all he can really do

Blais is having trouble making quick cuts, transitions and just doesnt have the power he once had in that leg. Even his hits arent as powerful because he cant drive through the check. Its actually pretty tough to watch every night.

What's annoying to me is the Gallant sends him out on the second PP unit to see if he can get him going with a goal (which would be his FIRST as a Ranger, Jesus what a horrible trade) like it will actually help his game come around. It has nothing to do with scoring.

Nothing but extra rehab time is going to help Blais at this point. How long are you willing to wait? 50 games? And then what? Do they really intend on resigning him?

I feel like they are trying to do him a solid keeping him in the lineup to build up his value in the NHL so he can hit the open market and get paid a little more. I get it. Hes a good guy. But this is the NHL and there are better players who can provide more in his spot. Its tough, but its a business right?

Goodrow was pretty bad early but him agitating the Knights helped the Rangers get back into in the late second/early 3rd. Lots of frustration penalties by them. Absolutely no reason he cant do that as a 4th liner though.

Are you complaining about the complaining?
Just responding to the gloom and doom crowd. They're entitled to complain. I'm entitled to remark on it.

I think people are just making some tweaks. Nobody is firing the coach in this thread.
Actually, a few are.

By the way, what did the analytics say about Goodrow's game last night?

Goodrow looked like a train wreck most of that game but he stepped up and did bring some life back to the team.

I would swap Trocheck and Chytil. I feel the only reason Goodrow is on the second line is because he doesn't trust Chytil but he for sure would trust Trocheck. So that'll move Goodrow down and maybe convince GG to bring back VK74.

Rangers fans ask for changes and those changes work, but some still notice things that can be better and aren't being done that way because the coach is stubborn and punitive against kids for fun.
Fixed it.

Krav has passed the eye test and analytics. And we won. Statistically one of our best players. Then he was scratched. You want people to be happy about that? This wouldn't happen to any BAD player over 30 years old.
This organization doesn't do things correctly. We are seeing it firsthand with how Kakko and Laf were screwed up. You want us to be happy when that happens to Krav? No thanks. We can do better. We SHOULD do better.

Curious if you believe that you would do a better job of coaching the Rangers than Gallant.

Last nights game was all you needed to see to vindicate what many around here have been so upset about.

Both Laf and Kakko scored and both played with a little more jump and confidence in their game.

The problem is Gallant will be keeping a close eye on them and the other lines and finding reasons to split it up as opposed to letting it ride for a while (or the rest of the season) and providing the kids with the proper growing environment.

It was funny to me how he HAD to get Kreider and Mika back together for at least one drop of the puck 4 on 4 (they already PK together too). God Forbid he sends out Laf or Kakko with Mika 4 on 4 and kept a pair of that line intact.

Am I nit-picking? Maybe.

Either way, enjoy it while it lasts folks.

Great post. Cheers!

I would not be able to run a hockey practice, so in that regard no. I think 90% of posters would do a better job with choosing the line combos.

Do you actually think you couldn't do a better job with the lines than this clown?

Not that long ago, Laf doesn't score there. Accepts an off-target pass, settles it down, waits for the Knight dominos to drop and start sizzling like bacon, then buries it.

Cmon kid we need you - Gallant, you're on watch. DON'T MOVE THEM.

The sound of sizzling bacon is simply the best thing ever.

Also, if anyone doesn't get the Golden Grasshopper reference, Vegas has had grasshopper swarms run wild on the Strip.

According the analytics, he was fine.

He has been trashed by a few here for his performance. Do you think the analytics are wrong in this case?

Just trying to get a better grasp on analytics.

Okay.

Not for nothing I want this to be clear when we freak out over what line laf and Kakko are on. They still only played around 14 mins each. Without the PP mins they’re never going to get legit “top line” mins. That’s why it doesn’t matter if Kreider and Trocheck are on line 3. They’re still getting major power play mins.

So it’s nice that they get to play with Mika. That’s big. But we’re not going to see full potential until they get on PP1 (in a few years) or the PP mins are distributed better.

And it’s hard to fault gallant here in all honesty. You want your big money stars on the PP. can he get them off the ice a bit sooner? Maybe. But that pp even when not scoring holds the puck in the zone a LONG time. Rare that they don’t set up.

Well, we have to look at more than one game, in which case, he kinda sucks.

And also, I don't think it's necessarily about performance. I think people see the future benefit of giving Kravtsov minutes over a player we already know is mid on a good day.

Kakko and Laf took their top 6 spots, maybe they should take the PP1 spot too. If Kreider and Tro are on PP2, maybe GG would give it more than 20 seconds per PP. Win-win.

It's also been beaten like a dead horse, but the second unit has done absolutely jack shit with their admittedly limited time. People will use the chicken-and-egg argument, that they'll do *something* if given more minutes, but having done literally zilch doesn't warrant more minutes.

I really don't understand these charts very well. Will read more on that website.

I thought the same thing for the 4v4.

Kakko has been our best forward. He should be an automatic at 4v4.

I agree with this - the one thing I will say however is when the PP was struggling badly, was it too much to ask to put the second unit out with Fox a few times to not only jump start the kids but also give the vets a kick in the ass?

Wouldn't that be the same argument as the kids just need to play in the top6? Seems to be proving itself.

The problem isn't so much of the kids but guys like Trouba QBing it. If you put the kids on with Panarin and Fox, I'm confident they would garner results. That's obviously not happening with Zibs and Kreider being our most potent options on the PP. So, it is what it is. If they want to replace a Trocheck for Laffy or Kakko, great...

but the 2nd unit will suck no matter what when Trouba is QBing it and a schlub like Blais on it.

Despite the ability to get an assist in his sleep, Panarin was better - but he still wasnt great. Even with that one backcheck in the first.
