My tweak to the lines (while accounting for Gallant’s stubbornness)

Laf Mika Kakko
Panarin Chytil Goodrow
Kreider Trocheck Kravtsov
Vesey Brodzinski Gauthier
Blais

I see zero reason for Blais to be playing over anyone. And Brodzinski does bring speed

I like these lines. They actually make sense. So no way gallant will use them. He is itching to break up line 1 as it is.

I think you are. Kravtsov was playing well in that spot, goodrow was playing well where he was, and we didnt need to have another 4th liner in the lineup in Brodz or Carpenter. What is it with this team and needing 5 4th liners on the team?
Don’t all teams do this? Who has 2nd or 3rd liners not playing? People complain about Kravtsov not playing. It’s what you’re gong to have as spare parts

Last nights game was all you needed to see to vindicate what many around here have been so upset about.

Both Laf and Kakko scored and both played with a little more jump and confidence in their game.

The problem is Gallant will be keeping a close eye on them and the other lines and finding reasons to split it up as opposed to letting it ride for a while (or the rest of the season) and providing the kids with the proper growing environment.

It was funny to me how he HAD to get Kreider and Mika back together for at least one drop of the puck 4 on 4 (they already PK together too). God Forbid he sends out Laf or Kakko with Mika 4 on 4 and kept a pair of that line intact.

Am I nit-picking? Maybe.

Either way, enjoy it while it lasts folks.
Good find, but maybe he didn't want to choose ONE over the other? Maybe he thought it would mess up "the roll"? I dunno, it's hard for me to keep up and usually don't notice EVERYTHING that is going on in regard to exactly who is on the ice with whom.

Good first and third period. Once again our second period was not that good.

Gallant still pisses me off. After we were up 5-1 and had basically a full 2 min left on PP he went right back with PP1. Why? There was 6 min left in the game. Put PP2 out for at least the first 1:30 if not the full 2.

We need PP2 to get some footing. And the kids can use the time.

That was a great pass by Goody. Didnt think he had enough skill to do that. But i still think Kravy needs to play on that spot.

Overall happy. But coach still needs to go.
Yeah, lets blame ALL of the poor play on GG. Let's toss him into a cab and in mid-season..... replace him (with whom, btw?) and start all over again with "new ideas" and a "new system". (If WE haven't already figured this out) Changing a system isn't very easy on "our bright players" with their own way of doing things, and a bunch of kids just starting to figure things out.
So, no......I want to give GG a chance to get this right. (Even if Drury has whispered in his ear, for a little help).

Agreed. Goodrow would be the GG's stubbornness, right? And I believe Sammy has much more to bring, he's just NOT fully there yet because of last year.

My beef is again, Vesey over Krav

I often disagree w/Anthony Scultore, for Forever Blueshirts. Howev, I am in agreement with this, excerpted from his article via Yardbarker today. ...

"Filip Chytil makes a welcome return to the Rangers lineup, unless you’re Vitali Kravtsov.

After an eight game absence, Kravtsov was finally given another opportunity to get back in and played in four straight games. The 22 year-old registered his first goal of the season and his second point in an overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators. He’s also a +2 in those contests with limited ice time.

So why is Kravtsov likely being scratched again?

Digging into the underlying numbers using NHL Stats, Kravtsov has the third highest CF% on the team (60.4) during these last four games. Using the eye test, he’s been very good in all three zones and fairly responsible defensively.

In that same time frame, Kravtsov’s one goal in just 11:59 of 5v5 ice time gives him a Goals Per 60 of 1.25. That’s third behind Goodrow (1.41) and Alexis Lafreniere (1.34).

Without the benefit of Gallant providing a deeper explanation, it’s hard to understand exactly why Kravtsov, a former first round pick in 2018 (9th overall) is unable to stay in the lineup.

An argument could be made that Julien Gauthier with just one assist in his last five games should be scratched in order to play Jimmy Vesey on the fourth line. One could even argue that Vesey with just one goal in his last seven games with a -4 rating is deserving of a scratch.

At this point, what’s the plan for Kravtsov? He isn’t benefiting by sitting in the press box. The Rangers can’t send him down because he’s no longer waivers exempt and a trade makes no sense since his value is low due to lack of playing time.

Often times, in these situations the player is labeled the enigma, but in this situation it’s the organization."

Agree w/this verbatim, particularly as I emphasize w/highlights, except that:
Chytil is not the cause of Krav getting shafted. Both are part of the solution and not part of the problem.

Gauthier -- who many wanted to write off but I insisted be kept -- is also obviously contributing, minimally with goals, but clearly with hard play that is drawing penalties and setting up teammates. He STAYS

No particular ax to grind with Jimmy V, he is nominally productive. But let's not confuse him with being even a light weight Jan Erixon.
Krav should have had full opportunity to develop into top 6 mins, and not his fault mgmt did not follow thru there.

Bend, buckle and break to bern here, Drury.
Do not stupidly take way less for Krav and deal him just b'c he is an embarrassment to your mistake as to how you mishandled this, thinking next year Othmann will be here and it will be water under the bridge.

Deal Vesey to highest bidder and move on.

Also, Brodzinski is an upgrade to Carpenter.
Won't kill us to keep him as injury insurance but if due to injury a high enuf payment for stopgap Carp is forthcoming, then do it.

I'm not sure Kravtsov has any reason to play over anyone either.

I'd also Flip the LWs on lines 2 and 3. Everytime Kreider and Chytil are together they are fire and it never stays a thing for whatever reason.

The Rangers won an NHL game with Laf and Kakko on the first line.
yes, but I have long maintained we need to emphasize less rigidly 1st, 2nd etc designations and more about what combos do work, and why, and try to stick with them.

I like this a lot. I thought Brodz earned a better look last year and should have been strongly considered for 4th line this year. Seeing his energy last night just reaffirms that. He’s better than Rooney was. He’s better than Carpenter and Blais.

Which is sad cause outside of a great pass, Goodrow was our worst player by a mile. Krav there and Goodrow over Brod makes the team better.

Goodrow was pretty bad early but him agitating the Knights helped the Rangers get back into in the late second/early 3rd. Lots of frustration penalties by them. Absolutely no reason he cant do that as a 4th liner though.

Rangers play as good a game as they have all season and some are still complaining that not everything was done exactly as they would like or that it will all blow up.

Are you complaining about the complaining?

I think people are just making some tweaks. Nobody is firing the coach in this thread.

I really liked Blais Goodrow and Gauthier as a 4th line, not sure why they wanna break that up anyway, only reason i can think of is that Drury is trying to justify the contract he gave Goodrow.

The unfortunate truth, until guys like Kakko and Laffy develop their physicality in their game, we will have these types of players plugged in.

It'd help immensely if Kreider and Gauthier threw their body around, but it seems like that's blind hope... I saw Mika throw a hit in the 1st... I had to do a double take

He's commenting about the complaining.....or if he's complaining about the complaining, then you're complaining about someone complaining about complaining, and I'm complaining about someone complaining about someone complaining about someone complaining.

Same, and it wasn't a typical Mika lip service turn your back and bounce off them hit, it was a heavy crunch into the wall hit.

I appreciate what Goodrow brings and that he’s a Swiss Army knife who can do what you ask him to do, like play in the Top 6, but that doesn’t mean he should.

He’s perfect in the Bottom 6 being that Swiss Army knife.

Also, as we’re seeing, this team goes as the kids go. Laf, Chytil, and Kakko are excelling in bigger roles. I think Miller has started playing well again too. Gauthier is solidifying himself as a solid role player in the Bottom 6. To me the next step for the forwards is getting Kravstov going. He hasn’t done anything to warrant a scratching.

Rangers fans ask for changes and those changes work, but some still notice things that can be better and aren't being done that way because the coach is stubborn and punitive against kids for fun.
Fixed it.

Krav has passed the eye test and analytics. And we won. Statistically one of our best players. Then he was scratched. You want people to be happy about that? This wouldn't happen to any BAD player over 30 years old.
This organization doesn't do things correctly. We are seeing it firsthand with how Kakko and Laf were screwed up. You want us to be happy when that happens to Krav? No thanks. We can do better. We SHOULD do better.
