Congrats to the US, great team, great game. They played hard and played with a chip on their shoulder.

I can do without the whole trash can antics, though. That’s pretty shitty.
It wasn't a trash can for God's sake.

Congrats team USA. I'm Canadian, but i honestly don't care who wins in general, i just love to watch the best prospects in the world excel on the biggest stage. Zegras is a difference maker type of player, they deserved the win.

Can someone update me on what this "trash can" or "barrel" talk is all about?

Nothing worth paying attention to. They brought out a big blue "barrel" (wouldn't call it a trash can, it was a large plastic cylindrical container for liquid by the look of it) with a piece of paper with "Canada" taped on it for the gold metal photo. Apparently their routine was to take things "one barrel at a time" as they played each team. I think you'd have to be looking for something to be mad about to get worked up over it.

Ok, thanks for the info!

I don't understand why so many are hating on TSN. They gave full credit to the Americans after the game and gave no excuses for why Canada lost and they weren't necessarily wrong for disagreeing that they weren't tested in the tournament.

You can't say a team that faced Russia and Finland wasn't tested and you're also throwing shade at those teams.
Neither of those teams played their best games on those days, I'm sure they'd be the first to admit it. I think the point was that maybe they were never forced to make a big adjustment or to dig deep and got too comfortable with their game.

Looking back at junior and senior tourneys from last 40 years or so, it seems like a strong pattern that a team needs adversity, a loss, to grow to a winning team. Almost every time when a team Finland would seemingly coast easily through the group stage of a tourney, the loss would come at a playoff game. And vice versa (although not 100%, of course).

To have that adversity, loss, come in the final, is of course unfortunate.
could be a big reason why sweden has had such little success winning gold in this tournament over the past 10 or so years despite their total domination of round robin play.

C'mon, Canada. Learn the difference between a trash can and a Jeffrey Dahmer barrel.
Indeed

Dahmer Barrel

That is clearly a Dahmer barrel

Relax. It looked like one when I saw it.
Except trash cans usually have these things called “holes” or “openings” if you will on the top of them, so you can fill them up without spillage. Barrels are enclosed, usually used for liquids or something that needs to be confined like grains, powders etc..

In this case it was a barrel on the ice and it came with a story as to what team USA was doing with it, which was some sort of motivational prop in the lockerooms.

This is exactly the kind of hard-hitting analysis that brings me back to HF Boards every time.

Someone tag Ryan Rishaug.

What game from the US! Full respect to them, they came out with a game plan and executed it to perfection.

A great tip, a bit of luck on a bounce that Zegras capitalized on and that's all they needed. Hard to beat a team with that kind of talent when they play an essentially perfect game. I hadn't realized how dominant the US has been in recent gold medal games, hopefully next years Canadian team comes back with a chip on their shoulder.
