I am still shocked. Losing is one thing, but getting shut-out? That team? Inconceivable. Bad bounce on the second goal though, but that's hockey. As other have mentioned above, adversity seems to be a key ingredient in success. Both of the last two gold medal winning teams have been humbled by the Russians in group play. This year, Canada didn't even trail at any point, and never had an even strength goal against. It was recipe for disaster. I really feel for these kids, not only with what they went through this year to get here, but the fact that many of them will never get this chance again.

Maybe it came too easy.

They came out like the game would just be handed to them.

In retrospect, it might've benefited them to lose an early game.

The US played a damn near perfect game, got a couple bounces their way, and knight was rock solid. Disappointed the Canadians couldn't string together enough dominant play to figure it out. the better team on the ice was the states last night. Congrats to those kids, well earned.

Seemed like that were only a few standouts in this ,after what was supposed to be a pretty deep draft...Lots of second timers seemed average...Anyone else notice this??

I know I’ve used some of these before but I’m too tired and lazy & a little intoxicated to look up new ones tonight so these will have to do.

So this is my post game analysis

1st Period:

Canada is dominated by the USA in the opening frame & appear off.

Canada continues to struggle

2nd period :
Hopes that Canada will come out of the gates flying are quickly dashed when Trevor Zegras

gets a lucky bounce for his 2nd point of the game and makes it 2-0 USA early

(Actual footage from @Del Preston )

Canada is out of sync and is outplayed most of the period until late. A power play generates a few chances and a post but ultimately comes up empty.

3rd period :

Canada starts to gets some offensive attack flowing but the USA keeps them on the perimeter.

Opportunities that Canada does get are sent wide or high

Or Spencer Knight is getting in the way of every shot he faced.

The Result was a 2-0 victory for the USA.

I won’t comment on the ‘Barrel’ fiasco,

as it ended up being much ado about nothing.

This is a good place to say good night and

This is out house...barrel..whatever! LOL. Hard to draw a ton of conclusions from a single elimination game other than:

* The U.S. stepped up (in particular Knight, the defense, and Zegras
* Canada failed to perform. To go so meekly into the night was a surprise

I agree. The US has a talented team and is deserving of their gold medal. I just didn’t expect Canada to go out with such a whimper.

That was awesome. My dad was born and raised in Edmonton, so I get to talk a massive amount of poop to all of my cousins north of the border for some time. It's funny to watch my dad, because he has no idea what to think, but I'm pretty sure he's not happy with the score.

You're right, this includes Caufield being by far the worst top 6 American forward to ever play on any Team USA squad in tournament history.
Canada had a bunch of guys too...It seemed like there were like 3 or 4 standouts in the entire tourney, but the rest were kinda meh TBH

Well deserved win by USA. Hilarious seeing the bitter Canadian fans (not just here) calling for respect. As a whole, no WJC fanbase comes even remotely close to being as entitled or classless as the Canadians year after year. It's the main reason I try and stay away from this forum this time of year, just insufferable at times.

As a Canadian myself, I was almost happy that USA won this one. It's basically propaganda the way the media fluffs up these kids to make it seem like the gold is theirs to lose. Maybe that arrogance will pass and Canada will soon realize that hockey is not theirs to claim, and other countries are just as good at it.

I'm sure I'm not the first to mention this but

Pool of death (Sweden/US/Russia) = 1 medal.

'Easy' pool = 2 medals.

Of course you could argue that the pool of death and all those challenges is what made the US so good in the final. Adversity (as was mentioned above) is so much better when you face it early.

Using a Czech example...

2010.. we were awful and almost didn't make quarters.. had to beat Canada I think just to make quarter finals. We did, then we beat Sweden (in shootout) Finland (in shootout) and Russia to win gold. I think our record at that tourney was around .600.

2011... we sent an awesome team. I like to think the last great team we had. We were undefeated heading into Semi's and were doing great. Lost that game to Sweden and won the bronze. Our record was around .900.

.600 and almost losing to France and others got us gold
.900 and dominating got us bronze

Canada officials should apologize to the country. It's going to take awhile for canadians to recover.

What a massive letdown.

Huh? Why should they apologize, the team lost a game, it happens. What do Canadians have to “recover” from? It’s a tournament for teenagers.

If anyone has to apologize, it should be TSN for their awful overhyping of this tourney every year, and talking up this Canadian team like they’re the best ever. It was annoying

congrats to the US! They played an amazing game. The Canadian team just lacked offensive creativity IMO, and the US game plan took advantage of that perfectly.

Great game! Not sure the better team won, but they were better last night.

This is how you win hockey games. Control the center of the ice. It's easy to say, very hard to execute it.

Nobody was in game shape. Some of guys looked like they hadn't been on skates for years. It was an unusual tournament for sure.

And after best of 3 you will need best of 5 and then 7. Just play a some video game tournament where everything happens just the way you like. Are you loosing suddenly? Rage quit and reload.
Bro what? I just want to see a best of 3. That's it. Who wouldn't want to see another game tonight?

We won this thing just last year, and im betting on us again next year. Hardly upset. Didn't play our best game. Shyt happens.
