Great game yanks. I honestly don't remember I saw such a perfectly played "team defense" game.

Canada just could not generate any out-manned opportunities and failed to get traffic when it was needed. Lot's of perimeter play by 4 guys and the one penetrating forward spent more time recovering (or failing to recover) pucks in the corner than he did creating any havoc in front of the net. Most of the time it just looked like there was zero time and space for the Canadians and no creativity to generate it.

Not sure what anyone could complain about... I suppose 3-1 or 2-1 might have been a bit more exciting, but it was a well played game. I only wish I was able to find a legit way to stream it online in the US... got duped into a FuboTV trial and the game wasn't there either. My YT stream cut out the last 3 mins, had to bounce around to lesser quality streams.

[Edit: I just realized it would not be obvious, but I'm a Canadian, so put this in the "not sore loser" category]

I have nothing against Canada or Canadians but it is good for the sport of hockey that they don't always win or even half of the time.
Good, because right now we've got an even 3 way split over the last 9 years...

Canada 3 golds ('15, '18, '20), Finland 3 golds ('14, '16, '19), US 3 golds ('13, '17, '21).

No repeats, just even results for the 3 countries over 3 year spans in various orders.

Canada played all their games in the 6:00pm (ET) time slot, whereas the U.S. played all their games in the 9:30pm (ET) time slot. The U.S. was used to playing their games in the later slot.
Canada's games would have been over by 8:30pm (ET), back to the hotel & relaxing, not getting ready to play a Gold Metal game. The preliminary rounds should be different times in order for teams to be prepared for this situation. Canada was obviously not prepared at all.
The Bronze metal game could have been played at 4:00pm (ET) and the Gold Metal game could have been played at around 8:00pm (ET). No reason for it to have been played that late. This is not an excuse for the loose, just an observation.

Not an excuse, obviously, but I was wondering about that.

Canada had the most television-friendly schedule as the home team/TSN puppet and that continuity undoubtedly served them well until maybe it didn't?

Had a day to sleep on it, still think it was a good game.

Canada had a poor 10-15 minutes of play over the first two periods and the Yanks capitalized on their chances, they played a good game.

Canada had several chances and pucks off the posts. Bounces just didn’t seem to go our way and the Americans scored on their bounces with a deflection on a shot and a puck trapped behind the net. That’s hockey, it’s a fast game and sometimes bounces don’t go your way.

It was a fantastic hockey game, lots of speed, skill, and physicality on display for both sides. It had tremendous pace and intensity, lots to like form both teams really. It was a good display of North American style of hockey, the refs put the whistles away and let the boys play as well.

Fun tournament, and hopefully next year has fans in it. The WJC some semblance of normality back to many of our lives that as diehard hockey fans we need, now onto the NHL season.

Except trash cans usually have these things called “holes” or “openings” if you will on the top of them, so you can fill them up without spillage. Barrels are enclosed, usually used for liquids or something that needs to be confined like grains, powders etc..

In this case it was a barrel on the ice and it came with a story as to what team USA was doing with it, which was some sort of motivational prop in the lockerooms.
Ok, bud. No need to be condescending.

I totally agree

New member are you?

I don't know if you know this, since you're still new to the board... but to the left of your post, it shows the date you joined. Considering this is the first international tournament since you joined, you shouldn't talk about how things are like around here post tournament.

Not that I want to poke my head into this discussion, but plenty of people come back and make new accounts either because they can't remember their old account login information or were locked out.

You can't always rely on the Join Date to determine if a poster is new or not.

Get out of here with that logic!

The game wasn't even entertaining. I still say Sweden-Russia in the prelims was by far the best game of the tournament.

It was a great, fun hockey tournament.

Try and caption this:

Byram: I’m sorry that you’re the only one who showed up to play

In all seriousness I thought it was a weird interaction where Byram seemed a bit cold to Levi which was absurd

Good grief. They've been in a bubble for a couple of months, I don't think game times were a factor and if so they easily could have made adjustments to plan for it.

What rule changes are coming to ensure this doesnt happen again? Getting rid of shootouts in the finals and all canadian reffs was a step in the right direction but we need more. One big concern imo was the very unfair starting times in Canadas games. They also had to play many b2bs against rested teams.

The US team did a wonderful job of boxing out team Canada, their D kept the opposing forwards on the boards, there was also no areas of weakness in the slot, nothing was given without a fight. They were ready and team Canada was shocked by it and did not have an answer and that is on the coach. There was not one single modification in team Canada's attack, they continued to try the same thing in all three periods and it always failed. Knight was good but not really tested because of the effort in front of him. The Americans reminded me of the Carolina Hurricanes playing in front of David Ayres.

What rules can be changed to make sure that Canada never loses another tournament? o_O

Good point. Didn't even think about that

Yeah because Canada didnt even show up. US completely dominated them in a manner similar to how most here thought Canada would dominate. As a US fan, I had a ton of fun watching but it felt like boys against men so I understand your sentiment
