The one Country I've never minded losing to in international play. So much respect for the tournament they've just had. A Country of 5+ million and playing without ANY of their NHL talent. Bravo Finland.

U20 Gold and Mens gold against pretty stacked Sweden, Russia etc... I think Finland is atm. Best Hockey counry in the world. Expecting 2020 dominating with our Young core. 2022 at China we are biggest favourite for gold with Jalonen as A Coach.

Well I can’t claim to know too much about golf 105+ years ago, but from what I can’t tell, he was a full time professional as well. He was playing with fellow pro’s. If his neighbor and part time amateur player did it, it probably would be on the same level from what I can tell.

You know less than even you think. Ouimet was a CADDIE when he won it. He was not a pro. Beat them badly in the 18 jole playoff.

Personally I think it's players care about the money in pro sports and winning and sacrificing the body has become secondary. No great coached teams or true leaders. No surprise that Finland showed the biggest heart in the entire tournament.
I'm happy for them and congratulations to an awesome team. Great story and hopefully this sends a message to the rest of the hockey world.
This should open up coaching and management positions for Finnish personnel in NHL.

If we think about absolutely best top-32 ice hockey coaches in the world, Jukka Jalonen is there without a slightest doubt. But the fact still is that for some reason NHL teams hires some rookies (that is, no previous experience of coaching full pros) as head coaches relatively often. Like old players.

The only guys that were touted as possible NHLers before the miracle happened were Morrow, Christian, Broten, and Ramsay.

Sixteen of them had been drafted, for example Team Canada only had seven drafted players.

U20 tournament is in mu eyes biggest tournament after Olympics. Closest to best of best tournament... This year Men.s WC was pretty stacked with NHL players... well if you count us Out

I’d rather see Canada win, of course, but I can’t ever recall a loss in a gold medal game that I’ve felt better about.

What an amazing year for Finnish hockey. First the WJC gold in Vancouver and now a gold medal at the worlds with a team of Euro-leaguers. And the way they won! Overtime vs Sweden after tying it up with the extra attacker, an 1-0 upset vs the Russian favourites, and then a gutsy 3-1 third period win vs Canada while being outshot 44-22. The closest Finland’s ever had to a miracle on ice.

This has got to be the best year ever for Finish hockey.

Cultural I guess.

Some Euros do, but not the Finns. They are closer to Canadians than anyone else.

This game would have been so much better if it was Russia vs Canada

Just boring to see such a one sided game. Finland can only defend and play off the counter. They lose all the 1v1 battles and can only play well tactically and try to win a low scoring game. They can't match up with Canada in any sort of way, just depend on defense/goaltending and hope for a lucky goal. That isn't hockey.

Sorry that your team got eliminated Saturday, but that's no reason to not enjoy a great game.
