I don't get how NHL coaches don't hire these Finnish coaches. So much with so little. It doesn't matter who they have, they always play teams tight and tough with low-ceiling, risk-adverse players.

Full marks to the Finns. If Canada couldn't win, I'm glad Finland did. Who would have thought two weeks ago these two teams would play for the gold medal. It just wasn't Canada's day. Two posts and a stonewall in front of the Finnish net. Never seen so many shots blocked in my life.

Hyvä Suomi!! Congratulation to Finland!! Obviously they only win the title in the uneven years 1995, 2011, 2019. They shortened the time between the titles always the half:
1995 to 2011 = 16 years
2011 to 2019 = 8 years
Next title may be in 2023?
Jukka Jalonen must be the king of the coaches in Finland now. The only finnish coach who won 2 titles at the whc.

B Squad? How the **** is this a Finnish B-Squad. Literally none of these players except Kakko in a few years would make an olympic roster. Neither brought their best but who's fault is that, with the way things are going you aren't seeing any Olympics with NHL'ers anyway.
That's fair, my point was more that when Canada doesn't send their best it is a ridiculous drop off compared to other nations, and that has been shown in the results when you look at Olympic/World cup finishes vs. finishes at the World Championships. Canada produces a lot of NHLers, but their lower end players can't take over and dominate a game the way that their Olympic squads can. In a single game elimination tournament anything can happen and that's why you see so many different winners in international hockey. On the other hand when Canada sends their best they more often than not win it all because there's just so much skill to overcome a poor performance, hot goaltending, puck luck, etc. that often determines at lot of these games.

As I said I'm not taking anything away from Finland, and there's no excuses on Canada's end for not taking home the gold. Both teams played a great game and great tournament, and this one came down to timely scoring, and great goaltending/lack of finish. I do hope that the Olympics have best on best going forward because it is an event I loved watching in the past. I did not watch much of the previous Olympics hockey and likely won't going forward if they don't bring NHLers. Similar to how I don't watch much World Championships unless I'm invested in watching certain players. The Olympic sized ice makes the entertainment value poor enough, and combined with a lack of skill it is even less entertaining to me. Obviously this tournament is important to a lot of Finnish fans, so I'm definitely happy for those that are going to be able to enjoy and celebrate this win, I'm sure they will get a lot more out of this than Canadian fans would have if they had won.

This is a pretty classy take on it coming from the country that hates to lose. Finns went the hard way, KOd the heavyweights and now they're gonna have a well deserved good time.
I look at it from the players perspective. They come to Slovakia after a grueling professional hockey season and pull on their national sweater. They play the semi-finals yesterday, then suit up for a back-to-back today against some of the best in the world (forget about Ö team stuff).

I have full respect for all players from Czech, Russian, Canada, and Finland today.

These are still pro hockey players.

The Americans in 1980 were non pro (amateur) college kids vs one of the strongest teams ever assembled in the entire history of the sport.

This was a professional hockey upset, or an unexpected result. 1980 was a literal miracle pulled off by some random part time hockey kids.

Bingo.
