I missed the 3rd period today so I recorded the game and just watched the 3rd. Umm, yeah. The penalty Canada got before the camera incident was a total dive and joke call. Yes, the camera-clear was a penalty but Canada should never have been down a man in the first place so the "it should have been 6 on 3" comments are stupid.

Either way, Russia stopped playing when they had the lead. The weird thing is they were winning defensively for once. Normally Russia looks for a track meet in this tournament (especially against Canada) but not today. I've never seen a team collapse around their net like Russia today to stifle an offensive chance. For whatever reason, they abandoned their game plan.

The reffing was brutal ALL game. Canada didn't win because of it. That's just silly.

Really, really great hockey game, from start to finish. Russia was so fast and dynamic, I thought they’d beat Canada. Both goalies made a bunch of amazing saves.

Usual IIHF issues of reffing, for sure a big missed call at the end, I would be very sour if I was a Russian or Russian fan. It’s a part of the game unfortunately, and it does go both ways, Canada had some tough calls too. Would have been better if that over the glass was called.

We can all ***** and moan at each other, but the whole point of the tournament is to let these young guys showcase their talent and they did and it was a great tourney. The outcome truly shouldn’t matter to anyone not on the team, we didn’t do anything, just got to enjoy some exciting hockey.

Cheers to the Russians for a great tourney.

I'm late to this convo but wanted to say - great post!

AND this picture shows the camera hanging over the ice so your "explanation" is bull **** because the camera hangs over the ice
The actual camera is behind the glass.

Also said that it doesn't matter if the structure is inside or outside the airspace of the rink.
So he's saying that it doesn't matter what the IIHF rules says? Any object in the arena that the puck can bounce off on and back onto the ice is not delay of game? Your head of refereeing is talking out of his ***.

So is that cord not included as part of the camera? Can you work a camera without power going to it or have a camera there without a bracket holding it up? All the inputs for the camera are literally hanging over the ice, including the structural bracket that holds the camera up.

But if youre going to argue with that picture that shows several parts of the camera and support structure hanging over the ice then your mind is already made up and replying to you is pointless

Nothing of that matters, as the puck hit the camera behind the glass, as I've already posted proof of in an earlier post. This thread would've been 100 pages longer if this would've happened against Canada. It was a bullcrap call and everyone who isn't completely biased beyond belief knows it.

So much bitterness in here, but that’s unfortunately come to be expected.

The whole camera thing is silly, and has been explained over and over again in here, with some feigning deafness to ignore it.

Just to add to what’s already been given here, a poster on Reddit with connections to TSN, immediately after “non-call”, said cameras attached to the glass, and therefore occasionally break the plane of the rink area, are identified and known beforehand. They are considered to be part of the glass, and the refs know that they won’t be cause for penalties.

This matches exactly what Rönn said, so it doesn’t matter what part of the camera was hit (which is a brainless argument to start with), there wasn’t going to be a penalty called.

It’s unfortunate for Russia it hit the camera. But there was nothing to be done about it.

Its been explained by posters that think they have a handle on the rules because they read the rule 30 secondsbefore they hit post. Reading on reddit, apparently the camera is attached directly to the glass and they consider it part of the glass. The refs know this and made the right call because of that.

Amazingly. despite a very clear pic... people will still say that the camera was part of the structure of the building.lmao

I can't stress enough, shit happens and Russia lost because of a really bad 5 minute span of mistakes:
1. Look at the amazing Akil goal again, Goalie needed to step up
2. the stick slash was stupid.. same penalty got called in first (where, coincidentally, about 500 Canadian fans posted that Russian's need to hold their stick better)
3. chasing a guy with a broken stick is not the best play
4. They had a 3-1 lead

Having said all that. Canada scored 3 in the third and it was amazing to watch. They won the gold fair and square... the missed call (and it was a missed call) is not why Russia lost. At BEST.. and absolute best, it's why Russia did not score on a 6 on 3 to tie the game. We'll never know.

The broken stick.. awful luck
The camera.. bad call by refs
The Gold medal... good for Canada, they overcame a lot of adversity.

but the camera call was a f***up! Even the TSN guys like Hodge and Lu (posted earlier by me) are taking the piss out of it.

Are you able to understand written word or are you too internet raged to understand that rink structure means a camera attached to the plexi?

Jyri Rönn officiated in the World Championships since 2007, including the final in 2009, until his retirement from active duty in 2015 to become the head of officiating in Liiga. Do I think he knows IIHF rules more than a anonymous nobody on an internet messageboard? HELL f***ING YES I DO!

Rink structure, not building.

Who cares, neither has IIHF refereeing background. And neither do you.

I think it's weird that you would be surprised about "bitterness"
So many of the posters here are actually really stupid.
Where there could be good observations and discussion, there is instead stupid people who believe in conspiracy theories.
There are some good people here who understand the complexities of hockey. It has nothing to do with geography. Smart people in every country. Stupid people in every country.

So you feel the camera is holding the rink together? It doesn't say 'rink structure' it says 'structural object'. Those are things that hold bigger things together. The camera is the very defintion of NOT a structure.

Very true... I'm not a ref. I do know what a structure is.. and a camera isn't one.

It was a bad call.. I still think Canada won it fair and square though.

I'm picking Sweden to win the group.

My big curiousity is about how Germany does against Slovakia and Germany.

It'll be intersting when Canada plays Finland.. most likely, the winner gets the Czechs and the loser gets one of Sweden/US/Russia.

I'm certain that Germany won't have too much trouble not losing against themselves.

That's it people. IIHF rulebook 135 part v. Thanks Czech. It was not a penalty.

If my post said it shouldn't have been a penalty then I apologize. That camera was
A: not above the ice surface (eg. scoreboard or those cameras they have on wires)
B: definitely not a structural object supporting the building

Here's how I know the camera is not a structural object... the tournament is over... TSN packed up the camera and it's on its way home to Canada. Yet, somehow, the building in Ostrava did not collapse.. nor did the rink.
