Coaching? Ovechkin was also most probably tired. He just came from a grueling playoff run.

It's probably coaching - Znarok does not make a professional impression on me, I have doubts that he is as competent as the US, Swedish, Finnish and Canadian coaches. The fact that he allowed Ovechkin to join the team attests to this. If our defence was having major issues, why invite Ovechkin in? Imo, Znarok has to go. Games like this are a shame to Russian hockey.

How do you reject him? He answers the Bell for Russia every chance he gets. He never turns them down.

You could argue that it might be better for the team at times not to add anyone and change the dynamic. But this years Russian team hadn't exactly looked amazing so adding him wasn't likely to hurt. I do think the coaches maybe should have utilized him differently. He just came off a tough 7 game series and a long flight, probably should have been more of a power-play specialist with less ice-time.

Personally I think it messes up team chemistry, it also doesn't seem right that you have a player play every game up until then and have a player come over on a 36 hour flight and basically steal his spot...even if he is one of the best players in the world.

They shouldn't have invited Ovechkin in the first place. The guy is not a team player, he makes everyone 'relax' because they assume he'll launch his heroics and do all the work by himself. But he's not capable of outplaying an entire team! Russia needs a coach that will show them TEAM play.

Basically, I only have positive impressions from the following players: Sergei Mozyakin, Dadonov, Bobrovsky, Malkin, Plotnikov, Panarin, Shipachev and Anisimov. Too bad Panarin and Shipachev didn't really show up today.

in the match against the US, I had the impression the guy was floating about, doing pretty much nothing. He only woke up to score the goal.

agreed. Overall, they need to replace Znarok, imo. If the guy knew what he was doing, he would not have gone for Ovechkin. I love Ovechkin on the Capitals, but in our national team, he just doesn't play at his best level.

Yeah, he looked gassed. I think they should have rested him for this game or just played him on the PP there.

Either way I think Russia didn't have enough to beat Canada this year.

Yeah, kudos to Canada - blitz-fast passes, perfect positioning, strategy, and shooting precision. Congrats on a well-deserved Gold medal.

I don't know. Hard to tell one of your countries top players to stay home.

well, if he was really a top player, he would've made a difference. Again, Ovechkin never had a history of playing particularly well for the national team. And when your team lacks a complete defensive unit, this is more important, imo.

Fair enough I guess.

But if I was him, don't bother to ask me to play at the Olympics.

Hall, Eberle, Seguin and Giroux better make the next Olympic team. This group has been awesome. I think this team could influence how future team Canada rosters are built in the future.

I'd take Ennis over Eberle to be honest. Ennis is dynamite on big ice. A totally different player and plays excellent defense in a 4th line role.

Riiiiiiiiiight. The team player that made a pass to Malkin instead of shooting in the empty net.

The team player that killed off a penalty, did a laser pass to the guy exiting the box. But it's Ovechkin's fault that his teammate didn't convert, right?

The team player that stayed on the ice after his captain left.

Ovechkin got this team to a medal by his play in the semi-finals. If he is not in that game, maybe they lose to the Czechs in bronze and finish 4th.

Oh HF never change. A jet lagged player comes over, gets his team to the final, finishes the tournament PPG, and somehow he is not a team player or a big game player.

When Canada sends a very good team for once to this tournament, it steamrolls the competition. Canada will remain best in the World until the next Best on Best tournament (2018 Olympics). The 2016 World Cup with the European All-Star team and North American All-Star team is a joke. Even if Canada does not repeat next year in the WHC, that should not disqualify Canada from being considered the top country in hockey. Best on Best is what counts-Canada has won 4 of the last 5 Best on Best tournaments (2014 Olympics, 2010 Olympics, 2004 World Cup and 2002 Olympics).

This! Canadians are such jerks. You see it as prove as you being the best in the world as soon as you win, but when you lose you make excuses. I might remind you that canada have fail to go semi-final 5 year in row before this year, and this year you had a easy road and a lot help from the refs. But yes you where the best team in this tournament, but you never respect when others are winning. Then you make up excuses.

Btw, canada have send similar team many times to wc and failed, last time was 2013.

Btw, olympic/world cup do not count for canada/usa, since you have NHL-refs there.
