Sundin only got a one game suspension for throwing a broken stick over the glass, and that's a more dangerous offense. Realistically the most Gavrikov should see is a one game ban from his next IIHF event, but probably just a stern warning.

I feel like Sundin was a snap thing in the heat of the moment, where actually threw it backwards, and he wasn't even looking. This one is far more deliberate, and slowly skated and took the time to throw it directly towards the fans.

lol

The entire 1980 USA hockey team chucked their sticks into the crowd immediately after winning gold. NEVER have I once heard or read anything negative about it.

A Russian kid chucks his stick into the stands and: "Won't somebody please think of the children!"

Sorry if I wasn't alive in 1980 to complain about it. Assuming it happened it was stupid 35 years ago, it's stupid now.

Immature action by Gavrikov? Certainly. Does it deserve criminal charges? Get real.

Oh, er, yea I'm sorry. I forgot I'm conversing with somebody who was almost decapitated by a flying stick!

A hockey stick won't kill you. It won't even almost kill you.

In 99.99% of cases, you're right. But freak accidents can happen. If it hit somebody who wasn't prepared for it in their temple, for example, it could potentially kill somebody. Very unlikely to happen, but stranger things have happened.

It fractured my skull, luckily there was no bleeding internally or the situation could have been very grave. That's all I was told by the doctors, I'm not a doctor so I can't elaborate. I was 9 so obviously it's more dangerous to a kid.

But even ignoring death, it's still assault to chuck a stick and hit someone with it. And it's still dangerous. However it likely did no harm at all(like 9 times out of 10 it wouldn't) or we would have heard about it. And a fan getting hit with a stick and not getting hurt now has a free souvenir, and Canada just won so I'm sure he was too excited to care about pressing charges so that's not going to happen.

I'd imagine he'll get a game or 2 suspension from the IIHF though.

Definitely should be a multi game suspension. That stick could have seriously hurt someone.

Stupid, stupid idea by that individual.

It's not about whether it deserves charges or not actually, it's about whether the person who got hit wants to charge him or not. The evidence is clearly there, it's on tape, there's a picture of him doing it close up. If the person were injuried or were *****y enough about the Russians he could press charges and he would almost certainly be found guilty.

I'm not sure why you're laughing about my injury. If you don't care that's fine, but I'm understandably upset about someone doing something that caused me serious injury in the past, anyone would be.

Gavrikov should be given an IIHF suspension and a lengthy one. That was a pathetic. Makes me even more proud we beat these assclowns.

Yes, if you were hit by a heavier object it could have been very dangerous. As it is, a hockey stick to the head is only capable of causing a linear fracture which is as harmless as a stubbed toe.

I wonder, if a team Canada player threw his stick...it's a souvenir.
If a Russian player does.. it's assault.

Really? And what are your credentials doctor?

I don't need any credentials to know one thing. If I were a doctor, I would know that plus thousands of other things about the human body and their interactions.[mod]

edit: thanks for completely castrating the meaning of my post. next time, please just delete it. thanks.

Wow, seriously? He legit whipped his stick into the crowd, he should definitely be suspended for multiple games for that. Just another example of the Russians being classless in this game

Fans are allowed to cheer , it's a free country and nobody was committing a crime. You making a excuse for a violent act is a joke. Whining about too much cheering is embarrassing . Suck it up !!!!!!!

Well, whatever man, no use to argue with you. Just continue your 'superiority' rhetoric, see how far that gets you.

Well, as I've said, what he did was wrong. But I don't understand what you want me to 'suck up'? Fine, Russia lost this time. We'll see what happens in future tournaments. The more you guys will continue your 'we're the best' rhetoric, the more you'll get disappointed when you don't win.

You were complaining all game that the crowd was cheering too loud for you. You were mad they cheered at goals, hits, and that the players celebrated their goals in the GOLD MEDAL GAME.

It is ridiculous, I hope you take a second to remove your bias and really think about it and the certain hypocrisy you would have if the situation was reversed.

Edit: edited your entire post, keeping it

I love the internet, you don't like what someone tells you, just call BS on it.

My story is 100% true btw, but please continue to believe otherwise :)
