Go away. There is no need for such jingoistic comments after a great gold medal game and tournament by both Russia and Canada.

Jingoism is patriotism in the form of aggressive foreign policy.[1] Jingoism also refers to a country's advocation of the use of threats or actual force, as against peaceful relations, either economic or political, with other countries,

NONE of that is in ANY of posts

I guess if you wanted to get me on feeling like my country is superior to others at least when it comes to hockey you could but that's ONE thing so your argument is VERY weak.

But besides that I don't say things that aren't true Canada IS, Always has been and always will be the top hockey power

Man, I can't believe the crap that is spewed after these international games. Many posters used these games as a reason to utter slurs and insults against fans of opposing teams.

Can't you just enjoy the game.

I look at this Canadian team and I see players from across the world:

Reinhart is of German descent
Domi is of Albanian descent
Duclair - Haitian
Fabbri probably Italian
Fucale is of European descent Italian or spanish
Virtanen has a grandfather who is a proud Finn
Nurse is of American descent
Bowey is not a typical Canadian anglo saxon
Nick Paul doesn't look like a typical Canadian
Petan's parents are 1st generation canadian
And what about Lazar?

So can we stop with the jingoism and congratulate all the teams on a great display of hockey - a game played at its highest level by many nations not just Canada.

Kudos man, nice post.

A very unnecessary evil to any International play, and annoying as Hell.
The players from all over the world left already... I just see a bunch of Canadian boys.

Call me naïve, but I don't believe it was one-sided. The Toronto management staged an emotional extravaganza, and the Canadian team came out in an emotional frenzy that they never could have duplicated in a European venue. Canadians were running all over throwing themselves at everything in sight, and I think the gestures toward the bench were the Russians way of saying "bring it if you got it!" I don't think that is unique to any culture.

Yes, the Canadians did seem to be in a frenzy, and the Russians aren't content with anyone assuming that the game's over before it started.

schooled by the Canadian hockey system, which is great, yes. But their descent is mostly European.

If this is a shot at a recent Canadian #1 draft pick, as an Oilers' fan I would trade Yakupov for MacKinnon in a heartbeat.

I did a little research and found that MacKinnon is playing for Colorado, and has 6 goals about halfway through the season. Yakupov is 2 years older, and has 4. Neither one is tearing up the league, but the difference is the hype. MacKinnon was supposed to be halfway to the Hall of Fame by now.

I see you used Google to look-up jingoistic, which came back with the Wikipedia entry for jingoism. A widely accepted definition of the adjective jingoistic is that is means fanatically patriotic, which captures the tone of your posts. I guess I could have posted more crude adjectives that describe your childish, chest-thumping behavior, but I imagine the filter would pick them up. Nonetheless, welcome to my ignore list.

no he wasn't I think you are confusing him with McDavid

Ill wait a day -when we ll have so many pro hockey players (like Canada).Just now we at 5th place -in amount pro players among hockey nations.
The only problem of this Ru team - was that we havent stars. We ll wait big generations only after 1998 born players.
Anyway congratulations to Beavers - they were best.

Considering Russia has about 6 times less registered hockey players, and they almost matched the Canadian team, I think they have a pretty damn good result. Russia will come back and win more Golds in this tourney, you'll see :).

Canada sucks. Is that what you want us to say? Your posts are only geared on the same topic over and over again.

It's because of posters like the one above why I was fearing Canada's win. "Canada superior!!!", "Canada is VASTLY superior to everyone!" and "Hockey is Canada's game!".

Yep, that's what all the TSN commercials ceaselessly tell Canadians. Canada is great at hockey, no question - but why all this 'superiority' rhetoric? What about your other sports? Basketball, soccer, badminton, gymnastics - where is Canada there? Don't mean to trash talk here, but I think Canadian fans need to be a bit more realistic and start respecting their opponents more.

Russian hockey has fallen so far since the fall of the Iron Curtain morally and in terms of a team-mentality.

How many times yesterday did we see a russian player try and dangle his way into the Canadian slot 1-on-3 in the dying embers of that game?

The stupid celebrating when they scored the 2-1 goal, and then the player who supposedly chucked his stick into the stands at fans upon the final buzzer...

Hard for me to picture hockey greats like Yakushev and Vlady Tretiak condoning such activities. :shakehead:shakehead

This photo makes it look more dramatic than it was. Its not as if McDavid made a great move to get open - the Russian defense just left him alone on the ice to make a line change, and the two defensemen in the picture, Gavrikov and Yudin, are coming directly from the bench and trying desperately to catch up with the play. That's the Russians screw-up, so its inaccurate to overhype McDavid's play. As you can see, Sorokin gave him a huge target in the 5-hole, but the replay shows that he barely squeezed his shot through,

That's really the only thing McDavid did all night to let you know that he was even there, and if he had gotten stoned on that, the game may have gone differently. I haven't seen that much of him, but what I have seen has always been in big games where he was almost a non-factor. I understand that he's young, but the basis for the hype must be in league games that I don't see. I just can't imagine how he and MacKinnon will ever be able to live up to the hype that the Canadian media has built him around.

Picture is worth a 1,000 words. You're definitely right, screw up on the Russians part, but that's why it was a beautiful play, how it was executed and took advantage of the screw up. Look at McDavid's stats, top 4 in scoring in the tournament. You didn't see much of him, because he was young. Young players usually get less ice time.

Dude, calm down your crowds and your rhetoric and you'll see the Russians will behave much better towards your team. The environment in the ACC was very hostile towards the Russians - you have no idea how that would feel if you were from another country and you saw the entire crowd jumping around like monkeys and cheering against you.

Great to wakeup this morning knowing our boys played their collective hearts out! Must be an even better feeling for our kids! Had to re-watch the game again last night before going to bed. There were a lot of unsung heroes in this game for Canada. Fell in love with this team and they made us all very proud! But never count the Russians out, they sure came back and made a game of it so respect there! What intensity, the players, the crowd was electric etc... Wow Toronto I didn't think you had it in ya!!. Didn't appreciate the Russian kinds taunting our bench (but that is the difference in cultures I suppose) or the brutal display of officiating in the third period (loved the boos raining down at the end from the rafters when the refs skated out to grab the medals! LOL). So no real need to swing our collective d**ks around claiming to be number 1,... the results are on the ice! :D. What a great tournament!!

Right, the fans should have sat on their hands, calmly nodding whenever Canada scored and giving a polite clap when the Russians scored.

Give me a break.
