Yes. The World Cup is a pre-season exhibition tournament catered for North American TV markets. Best-of-rest all star teams being planned just says it all.

These international tournaments don't determine which country is superior at hockey but rather which is the best team. Or did anyone think that the Czech Republic and Sweden are the superior hockey nations when they won gold in the Olympics, in 1998 and 2006, respectively?

With a better goalie for Russia (ANY of the past 5 years), the outcome would've likely been different. Russia have yet again showed they are never to be taken lightly.

Ill wait a day -when we ll have so many pro hockey players (like Canada).Just now we at 5th place -in amount pro players among hockey nations.
The only problem of this Ru team - was that we havent stars. We ll wait big generations only after 1998 born players.

You could argue that Cesko was the best hockey nation at the time, boy did they have a great run. Those were the glory days of international hockey, the competition is so watered down now compared to then.

Not necessarily watered down, Finland was hardly a contender at that point and Switzerland is emerging as a hockey power.
But still, I think it's fair to say that even then, Canada with their huge depth and talent pool were the best hockey nation even back then.

Russia has been producing stars for years Fedorov, Mogliny, Ovi, Malkin that kid the blues got, Terasanko (sp?) you can't use no stars ad an excuse you guys have had stars since the 70's

No star is not excuse. I just said well come back stronger in length of time.
Gold is back home where it belongs! What a game, after the 5th goal I thought it was over, shpuld've known better especially with us going up against Russia. Congrats boys!!! Woo.
Also big respect to Russia, you guys almost did it again to us. IMO Russia is still oir #1 rivalry. Until the U.S starts playing us in these epic medal round games the rivaley will never be as big as aCanada-Russia. Just another classic for the history books. Great game Russia

Credit to Benoit Groulx for sticking with Fucale. That was a tough call and took a lot of stones not to put in Comrie.
I think in 1998 you could make a case Czech Republic were the best due to it being the first time the old were best on best.
I think people not just in Canada but around the world chalked 2006 up to simply being 1 bad tournament partly due to the win in 2002 and partly due to sweden icing the best team it will likely EVER have.
had they not won in 2010 People probably wouldn't see Canada as the superior hockey power. BUT since they have won the last 2 olympics I think in order to even TALK about Canada not being the best they have to lose back to back olympics one is no longer enough.
And if the NHL doesn't go in 2018 2 isn't enough because right now it's a best on best. without that it's not the same.
About time the VASTLY SUPERIOR hockey nation of Canada got a medal in the WJC. 
Edit: I do think Canada is the best hockey nation cause of their unmatched depth, but there is not like other nations don't produce high end talent that can't compete. A lot of Canadians fans has an attitude that does not make them good winners, when u win u don't rub in others face unless u want to be disliked as a fan base.
Pretty content with how the results played out, tho it would of been nice if USA had played for the bronze instead of Sweden.

Nurse had a great third period in the Gold Medal game but Morrissey was more solid throughout the whole tournament, he is so calm and efficient and had to babysit his partner alot
