When through their darkest days Habs have always managed to find goaltending- like NYY find left batters & Dodgers find pitchers.

It’s just in the org DNA - it’ll be short term answers like Hackett, Theodore not necessarily the next HOFer
It definitely has been that way, do we have that guy in the system right now?

I think Primeau is showing enough for now, but it's hard to predict years down the road.

Dobes also has solid potential in the coming years if his development continues well.

Maybe the 'next one' isn't in the organization yet.

You can add Huet and Halak as very short term stop gaps. We’ve been extremely lucky with goaltenders. I think the spotlight on goaltending gives whoever comes here a large boost short term until the media and fans inevitably turns on them. Montreal is the best place in the league to play when things are going well, the absolute worst when they’re not.

We've been lucky over the decades of having some elite goaltending. Now with the uncertainty with Carey's health moving forward, so we have anyone in the system to take over the starters role of so we gave to go outside the organization to find the next.

Is Primeau showing enough in Laval? Any other prospects in the system that looks like a serious contending to take over the throne or is it finally time where the franchise doesn't rely so heavily on goaltending to win games?
Exactly right. Hackett, Moog, Huet, Halak, Theodore, heck even a guy like Mathieu Garon had decent season here.

Goalies are voodoo and irrelevant. You can win a cup with Matt Murray, Jordan Binnington, Brayden Holtby or Corey Crawford.

Last position you have to worry about.

One of these goaltenders is not like the other hahaha

Solid goaltending is definitely relevant. There's not a lot of separation between starters/elite goalies today, but having bad goaltending can really kill a season, if not a window.

Going forward, I'd rather go with a tandem of two average starters than 1 elite like Price. They're also not that difficult to find even on the FA market. Pick a solid one on discount from a big name org that gave up on them (like Andersen), or a goaltender that did well in a shitty market and is "underground" because they did not win much on their shitty org (like Kuemper, Raanta).

Some who watch Laval might have a better handle on Primeau, but he has not impressed me...

Holtby was good for a short span and ended up an overpaid anchor. Typical voodoo goalie. The caps would have won the cup with a bunch of equivalent cheaper guys.

If youre spending >10% of your cap on goaltending youre wasting efficiency on more important roster spots.

There is only 1 Price and you cant totally replace him, but we are in very good shape with Dobes, primeau and the Gnome in net. Primeau has found his confidence back and Dobes looks great as well.

Hopefully those kids will have a better team up front than what Price used to.

The title should read from Vézina to Durnam to Plante to ...

As for fillers you might think of Worsley, Hodge, Vachon, Wakeley, Plasse or Penney, it's hard to go from stars to stars but our history in goal is shining. Just hope Price's end of career whenever it comes isn't our '93 in goal.

Way back in Jacques Plante's time, he brought up the idea of two goaltenders, they brushed him off. He would later win a Vézina trophy with Glenn Hall and was a nice tandem with Bernie Parent in Toronto for a while. And Habs won four of five in the late 1960's with Gump Worsley and Rogie Vachon. The only Cup they lost (1967) was largely because the Leafs had both Johnny Bower and Terry Sawchuk.

Fast forward and with all the injuries this season including the playoffs, the importance of having two good goaltenders seems apparent.

Believe they should put a priority on goaltending depth and not relying on one guy.

Goalies need a team in front of them to score....................some have gotten it over the years, and got their Cup...........some have not, Luongo, Price, would fit this mold, and there would be many many more.

Luongo was taking a large part of the cap during the ~2010s Canucks core prime. Swapping him with a $5M skater and relying on Cory Schneider would have been far superior cap allocation in my opinion. Another what if.
