I’ve seen better deflections saves than this and there wasn’t really anything better that deserved softy of the night. Even none of the Kahkonen goals I gave a stoppable were worse.

Honest question, what could he had done better positionally to save it? Is he thinking his shoulder has it and the deflection threw him off? Did it go through him? In the replays I can’t really tell how it went in.

It looks like it may have went over his shoulder and up high shortside. Possibly even through his arm and over. For some reason they make it impossible to slow the video down on both ESPN and the NHL app. You used to be able to put them in slow motion and get a really good look as it’s rolling in on the NHL app, but the junk upgrade changed that.

It wasn’t one of those deflections that just totally and quickly goes completely opposite of where it was headed. This looks to have only changed direction slightly.

Maybe he thought it was going to hit his left shoulder, like you said.

I could have easily given him softy of the night for the first goal, but it was one timed. But he was also in position for that one. It’s not like he had to get over much.

I didn’t think the Markstrom goal was stoppable, I didn’t catch the game but on the highlight it looked like it bounced off a teammate and right in, although it kind of dribbled and maybe a goalie could have been quick enough to get to it.

Part of my feels a softy of the night may not be warranted for this. This warrants a stoppable goal, but perhaps not a softy of the night?

Part of me thinks maybe this is like a weird and fluky Bryce Salvador goal off a Ranger (Girardi?) close to Lundqvist and in back in the 2008 playoffs, but another part of me feels this one was worse than that.

This reminded me a lot of a goal Keith Kinkaid allowed in Toronto in 2018. I haven’t seen that goal in years, but I just remember it as being similar and I do remember giving it the softy of the night.
