Softy of the night is this Nick Hague goal on Kaapo Kahkonen

Thanks @Louskoolaid89 for suggesting the ESPN app, which I’ve had on my phone the entire time in case I wanna watch/listen to games on ESPN+ with it when I’m going for walks or at work.

I can now embed videos on this since the shitty new NHL app, as well as their website took that option away. Wish I found out about this two nights ago.

Softy of the night is this Jesperi Kotkaniemi goal on Pheonix Copley

Copley was frequently the softy of the night last year. That will only continue this year I’m sure, for as long as he’s still up and playing in the NHL.

This is the softy of the young season so far. That’s not even off his head or back. That’s right through his legs. He played this so poorly. That’s what happens when you got an AHL goalie out there playing games for you and he’s not the only AHL goalie they got to play NHL games for them, that’s for sure.

Softy of the night is this Connor McMichael goal on Jacob Markstrom

Like clockwork. Markstrom has a game and there’s a pretty good chance you’ll get a softy of the night out of it.

Blackwood from hero on Saturday night to zero last night. Carolina really benefits from throwing pucks on net against average to below average goaltending. Once they face a good goalie in the playoffs they have no answers. Man Blackwood was bad and still playing the position from his knees. Yet pucks still go through him. San Jose gonna be a long season...

Softy of the night is this Martin Necas goal on Mackenzie Blackwood

ESPN doesn’t have the goal video for this to embed. Instead, they had a 57 second clip showing the four goals the Canes scored on Blackwood in the 3rd period in under a 6 minute span. This was one of them.

I tried and tried my absolute damnedest not to give Blackwood the softy of the night, but when there is no clear cut softy of the night, I give it to the goalie who allows a clean wraparound goal.

That’s why it took me a couple of hours to come back to this with a softy of the night. I had to rewatch most of the goals I marked stoppable last night and I had to default to the wraparound.

Breedred, hopefully I have posted this before, if not, I am sorry.

Thank you for your efforts making this information available to us fans. It is appreciated.
Well I appreciate that. At this point I’m so used to doing it that it’s just a part of me. It’s a bit meaningless, but there has been a correlation with some of the bad goalies allowing a larger percentage of goals I’m counting stoppable. And sometimes there isn’t.

I still have all of my records I’ve kept since I started in the 18-19 season, as well as the playoffs, but I messed up my 2020 playoffs by shoddy editing in my notes.

I very much enjoy doing this, but I admit that typing it out sucks. Especially when I can’t use this site on my desktop computer anymore, except on shitty, cancer infested Mozilla. It’s almost easier to do a video, but I know most people who will read this don’t have the time to sit through a video when they can just read it.

I feel for ease of typing it out, just adding new lines to an excel spreadsheet then copying and pasting the spreadsheet could streamline it. I transcribed from this thread all of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 data for the Flames goalies to see if Markstrom’s descent into the gutter was evidenced by an increase in stoppable goals, or if the defense was just leaving him out to dry. It was straightforward to mess with the data once I had transposed it all but for just one team for one season it took me like an hour. So it would be a huge job to get it all in that format.

I’m not sure if HF plays nice with pasting in tables though so it might not work great.

I’ve probably posted this before, but I open up one notepad in my phone to track for the night. And I also have another note with the season’s data. So at the end of a night or the next morning (it’s usually after I post the report up on here) I edit all the new numbers into the season’s note and delete the one from the night.

So this is exactly what it looks like right now. There’s a name or two on the bottom that didn’t make it into the screen shot. There will be even more by seasons’s end when more goalies play and when guys start hitting double digits in goals I count stoppable.

I don’t keep up tracking a goalie’s actual goals against total, nor save percentage. The league and every other stats site already does that. When I calculate nightly save percentages that’s just for the purposes of the post and I don’t save or keep track of any of that beyond the night.

Like I said, and not enough, thank you for your efforts. It is appreciated, later. Have a nice day, week, month, year, and eternity. I think we are going to have a good season.

Softy of the night is this Pierre-Luc Dubois goal on Marc-Andre Fleury

What is he doing one handing this? Weak ass one handed clearing attempt led to him turning it over to Fiala.

So this is either arthritis compromising the use of a hand or dementia causing him to forget Fiala is no longer his teammate.
