Softy of the night is this Jason Zucker goal on Cam Talbot

That’s the third straight softy of the night for Talbot. He’s really filled the void quite nicely of not being able to give them to Mikko Koskinen anymore.

Softy of the night is this Matt Duchene goal on Pheonix Copley

Why does it feel like either Copley or Talbot are the softy of the night every time one of them plays? Probably because they are?

Kind of impressive that in a night with 11 games, a full 1/3 of the stoppable goals came in one game.
That's Alex Lyon vs Casey DeSmith for you.

I don't know why Coach Paulie Eyes decided to play Alex Lyon TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW, while Spencer Knight is now available and has been the backup both nights. And these models still wanna convince me the Panthers are a legit threat for a playoff spot by year's end?

And I think Jarry was supposed to start this game and got injured again and must have been a late scratch. They don't even have a backup listed for DeSmith, which tells me it was probably an EBUG and there was no way he was coming out of last night's game unless he physically couldn't play. I don't know if Jarry got hurt in the pregame warmup or what.

DeSmith is a classic Aaron Dell/Alex Stalock shorter goalie that probably doesn't have a long shelf life in the NHL.

Francouz SUCKS
I don't take anybody seriously (Darryl Sutter included) that cites their tandem as the strongest in the league.

Georgiev has performed very well, but Francouz is basically Grubauer (a much more sparsely used Grubauer) racking up save percentage points playing behind the Avs.

I'm fairly confident that if you dropped him on this team and traded Blackwood for him the numbers wouldn't be a whole lot better here for Francouz than they are for Blackwood. Maybe a little bit better. And Blackwood would probably be better there, but not a whole lot better.

He's signed for 1 more year after this, but I wonder if some sucker is DUMB ENOUGH to take his $2 million for one more year in the offseason and think they're gonna get a starter like Buffalo with Carter Hutton or some shit like that. We always see these teams pick up these backups from other team and think they can turn them into a starter. The Avalanche did that with Georgiev and it's working, but more often than not it doesn't. Husso is pretty much another example, but he was a UFA.

Not that I think Colorado wants to get rid of him, but if they're dying for cap space and think they could use a league minimum backup for Georgiev next year, they could sell him off. I'd have to think most teams wouldn't want him, unless it's strictly to backup only, as he's older and very fragile and rickety. Both knees, both hips.

There's enough teams desperate for goaltending right now I bet you could dump him for free because GMs are dumb, but yeah, it's ugly.
Like I said, I have no reason to believe they wanna dump him after this year, unless they're desperate for $1 million cap relief and they go with Jonas Johansson (who is BAD at the NHL level including his brief stays in Colorado) or Justus Annunen, who had a pretty bad rookie season in the AHL last year, but is having a pretty solid season in the AHL so far this year.

Annunen had some level of hype as a junior aged goalie. He’s young enough if he picks it up in thr minor league they may have a future NHL caliber minder. I think you are right though that forcing thr young guy into the NHL before he is ready is just asking for trouble . I think that is why you see old retreads hanging around an extra year or two. I won’t be shocked if Bernier gets at least a tryout and minor league deal next season with a chance to at least claw his way to sitting on an NHL bench somewhere since a team might not want to rush their goalie prospect.

Well tonight is easy, Kessel's goal on Halak
I see those goals all around the league, though I think they’re down this year by quite a bit, while the wraparound has definitely happened more this year than last year. Those goals were much more common than the wraparound the last couple of years. I try not to give those softy of the night as much, if not for the fact that I see those goals more than I wound think if I weren’t actually watching every single goal around the league.

I swear those kinds of goals were happening about every 2-3 nights last year. Not nearly as much this year.

Aho on Reimer I thought was pretty bad.

Has to do with goalies are being taught. I played hockey goalie growing up and a little bit in college before I hurt my knee really bad. Reverse VH is being taught like it's going out of style when goalies see a guy coming down the boards, it allows for some shit goals like Kessel scored tonight and why I hate it so much but also plays the percentages a lot better, it allows for goalies to shoot off the post with their skate to get across or having to jump up with a pass goes cross ice low to high.
