Not a bonus softy of the night, but just for fun for all the “Expansion team tho” excuses about Grubauer

This is the one goal I marked stoppable on Grubauer last night. This is the old “goalie isn’t good and gets screened on goals he really shouldn’t be screened on”.

Like by one or two guys way in front of him and the goal being a point shot with really no traffic other than the two guys battling way in front of him. The one guy that does look like he could have screened him in front though, he actually screens him after the puck is already in the back of the net.

Just slow this down on the live angle of when the goal was scored. It’s horrible.

I’ve argued these types before on Schneider, Kinkaid, Blackwood, Martin Jones, etc. I mark this goal stoppable always unless deflected. If there’s bodies actually in front of the goalie I don’t, but bad goalies get beaten and screened on these types of play more often because well, they’re bad goalies.

This is #48 for Grubauer this year and he’s still 6 ahead of second place Merzlikins with 42.

This is only the second 82 game season I’ve been doing this and the first 18-19, but the high that year was Koskinen and Martin Jones tied for 53. Grubauer is definitely hitting at least that if he don’t get shut down or has to start missing games.

He might not get to 60 though.

Grubauer has been so bad this year that even after a 4 goal on 27 shot game, his save percentage of .889% doesn’t even drop a point.

And a 27 (or even a 30 save) save shutout in his next game only gets him to .891% on the season.

Softy of the night is this Hughes goal on Montembeault

Because when I have a hard time deciding on a softy of the night and there’s no clear one that sticks out, I always go with the one where the goalie gave the puck away

Softy of the night is this Michael Rasmussen goal on Alexandar Georgiev

It could have been the Vrana goal on Georgiev right after it. Both were absolutely embarrassing.

He's covered the Flyers for years...
Even they've had better netminders recently than Georgiev.

The problem is they just never stay better than Georgiev for too long, like Steve Mason and Roman Cechmanek.

Or they get shipped out of town a little prematurely like Bobrovsky.

Softy of the night is this Jamie Drysdale goal on Jake Oettinger

Not sure if this is more fluky and unlucky for Oettinger or if just a really bad goal on Oettinger.

There it is…. Grubauer hits FIFTY stoppable goals this year on April 1st. Still enough time to hit 60 for him, even if it looks improbable, but he did add two more tonight and the game is still fairly young. Got a little over a period left.

Including one really bad softy of the night caliber goal to Eichel.

And Vejmelka with two really bad softy of the night caliber goals (and three stoppable with the wraparound lacrosse goal) and Mike Smith with a wraparound and one other horrendous 5-hole softy.

This night isn’t good enough for one single softy of the night.

@Bleedred The softy of the night has to go to Mike Smith on that Schenn goal, right?

Edit: That Mayhew goal against Arizona could give it a run for its money.
I've got something very special for the softy of the night. Gonna do a montage because of all the bad softies, like the two you just mentioned and some others.

I also have something to commemorate the 50th stoppable goal on Grubauer, who's been the first goalie to hit 20, 30, 40 and now 50 and maybe even 10 this year.

I'll call it my April FOOLS softies of the night. Because a lot of them looked like FOOLS on these goals.
