I find it funny how many of the people who used to blame Allen for losses and gave no blame to the rest of the team other than to say they played differently in front of him have now flipped the script and blame the team without placing the same blame on Binny. I've held off on making a determination on Binny just for the sake of making sure I didn't cherry pick. I don't even feel like Binny is an average goalie in the league anymore. I'd put him a level below Allen even, certainly no better.
Allen sucked, I would often lament Shakey's over-movement being a cause of a lot of bad goals, not to mention letting some absolutely soft swiss cheese in and then making the harder save, boy he was confusing to watch.
Binnington, yeah I'm done with him until he can prove himself as a goalie that is not swiss cheese (i.e. fix his game and learn to refocus). This team played the same in front of him as they do for Husso. I mean it's one thing for Binnington to get beat on a setup in the zone, that's on the D losing coverage, but when a winger is basically walking down the board after entering the zone and throws the puck where you normally hold your glove (Yo goalie coach fix that), well you've just lost your concentration again. It seems Binnington has no concentration anymore. A few minutes after the 1st goal against the puck easily beat Binnington (from not all that close) and luckily went off the post. Second goal, sure the PHI player backed into Binnington (Binner was outside of the crease) he could have kept his composure and came up with an amazing save, but he has his concentration broken rather easily. Third goal against, swiss cheese. That's two of Binnington's games in a row where he was beat on a one time inbetween his blocker and his body (his previous game he was sliding right to left, tonight he was stepping slightly from left to right). The goalie coach should be working on that with him. 4th goal against, stops the drive to the net on the left side, watches the puck pop three feet up in the air and about 4 feet away from him and does not ready himself and pickup the PHI player that was ready to pounce on the rebound. Sure the D should have not just coasted through, so I would say this was a bad goalie play and bad D play.
I know we're going to have to rely on Binnington for some of the games over the next 19. From what they were saying last night we need 11 wins to stay where we are. If we have to rely on Binnington because let's say Husso needs a rest, or has an injury (hopefully no jinx), I would feel worse about this team (than I already do) heading in the playoffs.
