Honestly I haven't seen this group implement the system completely yet this season. Tocchet needs to rein this in quick. Part of what made the bottom-6 so good earlier in the season is that they were playing defence as intended, lots of plays broken up before the entry and we used our skill on the counterattack.
Since Suter moved up, bottom-6 is not as strong and the freelance disease is spreading. Too many forecheckers overcommitting, too many forwards looking for tips at the net front which increases the chances of a turnover from a point shot and those guys get stuck so there's no forecheck and no high forward.
Then we allow easy entries and we struggle in in-zone coverage, which is a lot of what you've seen. Our D doesn't protect the net front with either pass coverage or by taking the man. Then only one of our pairs plus Brannstrom can transition us into offence. Then the forwards get antsy and are more likely to do the stuff mentioned earlier.
