The best word to describe Dorion’s performance during that press event is cringy.
I feel embarrassed for the fan base and as a fan myself.

I usually feel bad for people but Dorion deserves all the blame. Heck if I sucked at my job for that long id hope they fire me. Incredible you can keep your job for so long while bringing no results

Buried under the turds of negativity here is Dorion's actual explanation for the "rebuild is over" quote. Paraphrasing- "I shouldn't have said it like that. What I meant is that all the core pieces are now within the organization." Tar and feather him back then for saying it the wrong way but that's a perfectly understandable explanation, and it's true.

I would love to go back and see if everyone who is heaping crap on the org anticipated it to be this bad as we were playing fire wagon hockey for the last 1/3 of last season. Admit it, you all, like me, were excited about the progression of this team. That's not to excuse management, go and expect more, but the vitriol around here is laughably hypocritical when most of us were brimming with optimism a mere 3 month ago.
I'm not sure about that, but there was a poll.

I think a lot of people expected that we'd finish at about the same spot/seed, or maybe a small improvement. There would been smaller numbers predicting playoffs or a worse finish/seed - pretty sure about that part. But, there was a poll, so maybe a less lazy person could dig it up (certainly better than trusting my memory).

I think when MDZ was acquired, the wheels started to come off though. This is especially true after Melynk said they wanted to acquire another center & dman in a podcast in the offseason. The amount of doubters increased then for sure, and the amount of doubt certainly intensified.

This current roster playing at everyone’s current potential is what? 2nd last instead of last? I don’t know where Dorion thinks this current roster is capable of going.

Tkatchuk on pace for his usual point batherson playing out of his Mind norris on pace for 30+ goals only stutzle has not showed up on the score sheet but is actually playing decent defence Connor brown doing what he always does for us

Chabot actually playing baETTER zub the same Zaitsev just as bad as always Holden better than coburn gudbranson. Like. This isn’t the players. He’s assembled an ass roster and really really hoped they’d play like people they are not
This is what I dont get. How can everyone else see it plain as day and yet Dorion seems genuinely surprised the team is where its at.

Is the general manager not going into the dressing room or addressing the team common? Dorion mentioned he doesn't like doing it, but I mean shouldn't the manager of a hockey club do that kind of stuff?

Dorion is still scarred from that time the players turned up the music when he came to address the team.

hahah no way. He says he doesn't do it because it undermines the authority of the coach (wtf?). Seems like Dorion is projecting if that story is true.

looool

I didn’t know Ottawa was the only team that had injuries and covid. They sucked before covid and after covid now as well.

You're right. The only other team to have games postponed because of COVID has an even worse record than us in their last 10 games, and is only 2 points ahead of us in the standings. And this is an experienced team that made the conference finals the last two seasons. If it can derail an experienced veteran team like the Islanders, imagine what it does to a young inexperienced team like the Sens.

Holy smokes!

The ten of you are like sharks around a bucket of chum dumped in the water. It’s the most excited and coherent I’ve seen you guys be in a long time.

This has to be a harbinger of good things to come :)

Bringing up injuries is even more damning to Dorion. Your rookie with 12 games experience and your other center quickly falling out of favor got injured. And you “5th center” (wtf is that) got injured. It really only highlights that they had no plan at C. What if pinto hit a wall (likely) what if white continued his poor play (likely). Would that have been acceptable excuses to?

like rraaalllllllyyy. If only we had Clark Bishop right.

Yeah, what if. It’s funny you all make Pinto sound like he is a rookie like he is in Parker Kelly’s wheelhouse

Put a rink downtown when everyone working from home indefinitely then people will complain downtown is too far and traffic is too congested for an arena.

I'm a bit late to the conversation on this one, but I do think we are starting to trend away from having 18k (in hockey) or 50k+ in football games as normal. Society is changing, and pro sports has to change with it. Smaller arenas, more luxury seating, a different in-game experience is going to be the norm soon (at least in hockey). And likewise, more money is going to come from tv contracts and premium channels and subscription services for the average fan. People aren't spending $15k+ to build a home theater room just to play Old Yeller for the 100th time.

They put part of his presser up on the big screen before the game. I booed it.

I debate the same subject. I often wonder if Dorion just says things that he knows Melnyk would approve of -> Job security.

Would PD be able to get a GM job somewhere else?

Survival instinct/job security might be a big reason why PD says what he says.

Dorion going to the dressing room to address the players is not going to solve the problems with this team, which were created by Dorion.

EXACTLY. Dorion told Melnyk a lot of things about the rebuild with promises of success resulting in FYOUS. Dorion failed to deliver. Now he paints the team he assembled in rosy terms: The rebuild is over; we have acquired the new core.
