I wonder if this team would any better different with Chlapik, Baclers, Abramov and Logan Brown filling out the bottom 6 instead of the garbage that is Shaw, Gambrell, Gaudette, Ennis, Tierney?

The answer is a resounding 'unlikely.'

Offseason improvements or not, cautionary tales by some or not, after our finish last year just about everyone felt good about the progression of the franchise. Those that thought we could push for a playoff spot were in the minority (thankfully) but for the most part everyone expected this team to distance itself away from mediocrity.

So my point is, why throw SO MUCH shade on Dorion when generally we all felt good about the direction of the franchise?

Wtf these are like 2 hrs apart. Why does it take him getting shat on to take responsibility for anything lol
They were both quotes from his press conference but its funny seeing Garrioch writing Dorion takes full responsibility when he tweeted a PD quote 2 hrs earlier saying a lot of players are underperforming.

You're right, my mistake.

However I stand by that it was an "all in" move based on a short sample size with poorly thought out consequences (ie. if we fail then we'll tear it down and that pick would become very valuable).

That tear down seems to be Melnyk's fault, but Dorion has not been the right captain for the ship.

I'm not drinking the koolaid but I'm also not succumbing to the unfiltered bias that causes most around here to believe that PD can't do any right or has not done any right. This is the same extremely young team that has shown flashes. They will sort it out and I hold out hope that deals will be made when we are ready to assemble for a push.

Have mistakes been made? Yes. Is there a justifying element to not starting to assemble a winner quite yet? Also yes.

Buried under the turds of negativity here is Dorion's actual explanation for the "rebuild is over" quote. Paraphrasing- "I shouldn't have said it like that. What I meant is that all the core pieces are now within the organization." Tar and feather him back then for saying it the wrong way but that's a perfectly understandable explanation, and it's true.

I would love to go back and see if everyone who is heaping crap on the org anticipated it to be this bad as we were playing fire wagon hockey for the last 1/3 of last season. Admit it, you all, like me, were excited about the progression of this team. That's not to excuse management, go and expect more, but the vitriol around here is laughably hypocritical when most of us were brimming with optimism a mere 3 month ago.
Most expected the team to be very bad, I assumed bottom 5. The last 10 games in a season where all the teams were in or eliminated by then are fools gold to evaluating a team or players.

They did nothing in the off-season, and they are reaping the rewards of it.

The team and management deserves all the criticism they are getting, if not more. It’s pathetic.

If its NHL goals, then yes. I think the guy had talent but just needed to stay healthy, work harder and get a chance in the right spot in the lineup that would play to his strengths.

Lajoie looked pretty good the other night for the Canes, and Duclair is certainly having a good season with the Cats.

A lot of patience is needed with young players, although I suppose a team can have too many prospects. In that case, the team needs to make good choices about who they keep and who they release.

I wonder why Melnyk extended Dorion. It just makes so little sense given Dorion's record.

What a joke. Just own up to it. It's almost solely on him and yet he wants to talk shit about underperforming players and a small sample size in garbage time as any kind of norm. Be a man and say you f***ed up.

I really don't have any interest in hearing Dorion say anything. Nothing he says has any value or would serve any purpose. Melnyk should fire him asap and hire an experienced competent GM.

because they were supposed to bring in a top 6 Center and a top 4 D.
Instead they took everyone else’s waiver wire shit players and called it a day, and now are shocked, shocked I tell you that they are shit.

Melnyck is a lazy owner - his teams are brutal, he can’t sell tickets, the in game experience is poor, no connection with the community.

"We don't have to trade pending UFAs for picks."

So we hang on to them and get nothing for them? Dorion may think he doesn't need the picks but the picks have value . Why keep the pending UFAs?

If our 2nd and 3rd centers are out does that mean we were paying our 4 Center 4.2 million

This current roster playing at everyone’s current potential is what? 2nd last instead of last? I don’t know where Dorion thinks this current roster is capable of going.

Tkatchuk on pace for his usual point batherson playing out of his Mind norris on pace for 30+ goals only stutzle has not showed up on the score sheet but is actually playing decent defence Connor brown doing what he always does for us

Chabot actually playing baETTER zub the same Zaitsev just as bad as always Holden better than coburn gudbranson. Like. This isn’t the players. He’s assembled an ass roster and really really hoped they’d play like people they are not

“I’m not being defensive, you’re being defensive. You’re the one asking all the questions.”

Jesus Christ. What an embarrassment.
