I mean other than the Paul trade, Joseph re-signing, Gustavsson for Talbot trade, etc...

It's definitely been a mixed bag but he's been a lot better in the past year than he was during the rebuild that's for sure.

Those are minute concerns when you see the plusses of adding Giroux, Cat, and Chychrun (and Cam Talbot) since the summer began. Pierre Dorion absolutely killed it this season.

Lets see how the boys respond now, Pierre has done his part.

Go Sens Go!!

Things aren't static, surely he's been learning from his early rookie mistakes, building relationships with other GMs, etc. Free from owner intervention he has fewer restrictions too, which can only help. He still needs to beef up the front office, the scouting staff, analytics department, etc, which with new ownership should be possible.

No more trading first rounders for a while ok?
Other than goaltending we really don't have any major holes now, so I don't really see it until we hopefully become cup contenders.

He's done almost everything I've wanted him to since the offseason roster-wise. Signed Giroux, re-signed Zub, traded for Chychrun. If he manages to lock up Cat I really don't have many complaints about how he's built the roster.

That Stutzle contract is going to save us a looot of trouble.

The team is obviously going to get better trading multiple 1sts + multiple 2nds for immediate help.

We'll feel the pain of those losses down the road, but for now it's exciting to be able to compete for a playoff spot and hopefully open up a two year contending window.

But no, losing Paul and giving a similar contract to Joseph was not a minute concern. Same goes for trading Gustavsson, a 24 year old goalie that currently has a .930 SV%.

Melnyk passed end of March so that was after the Paul trade

But yeah the Joseph extension is poop and So is the Talbot trade.

Chychrun Debrincat Giroux and Stützle contract trumps that pretty hard

I’m really happy about the Bowness hire

I see lots of minor deals, and ones like Jospeh and Gus that haven’t had nearly enough time to evaluate clearly.

Talbot was a good trade.

You guys always stack up the Pennie’s against the C notes and think they compare.

Take a break and enjoy the ride.

Yeah, but what about the Paul trade? That's enough to negate like 2 or 3 of those things, right? /s

You joke but this hits way closer to the truth than it being funny....

On a real note though, f***ing Bravo Pierre Dorion. Bravo. Your a joker if you still want to pretend that you played the game as brilliantly as Dorion did with Arizona, and how he withered the return on JC down by slow playing and never bending to pressure.

Beyond todays trade, he has assembled an incredible group of exciting young players. One that every fan of the team can be proud of, and one that is impossible not to be excited about going forward.

The top 6 and top 4 are both 100% good to go. The Sens don't need to be shy in the showers around any team in the NHL. Might not be the "king" of the room, but were feeling damn good about ourselves and standing tall.

If Formenton comes back that's awesome. But even without him, the addition of Gauthier and then Greig next season (along with Pinto moving back down with Norris returning) makes the bottom 6 extremely competitive and capable. Any potential holes are going to be relatively easy to patch up.

And all of a sudden, this season and beyond, the Sens have a lot of really interesting and potentially sexy options for the 3rd defensive pairing. Brannstrom is already on the way to being fully established, but its extremely reasonable to expect that we can get at least one or two of JBD, Thompson or Kleven to play a solid #6/7 role for us over the next coming seasons.

It's absolutely laughable if you can still come away from today and still think Dorion is clueless, or that you think you still know better. Dorion after today could very legitimately get another job in hockey as GM - he's proven he can build a team on a tight budget.

I hope everyone realizes the brass balls PD needed to pull this trade off. Under immense pressure, he waited and waited. He gambled but it paid off big time and he certainly deserves a ton of credit here. Swooping in and buying low to get a legit top pairing D with a fantastic contract is genius and worth the wait imo.

PD has assembled quite the hockey team with key pieces all on great contracts.

It's unbelievable how well built this team is.

I know people don't want to give Pierre credit going too far back but honestly, he had a character in mind for this team when he drafted Brady and that character has been built up to a T.

When you size up all the important players, it really is amazing how well each of them fits and how well they jive together.

The timing of it is perfect too. Along with a couple other teams we are going to fill a power vacuum in the East while a disproportionate number of others start going backwards like BOS, TOR, TB, WAS, PITT, FLA... The pendulum will swing to the West while we eat steak in the East. This wouldn't have been the case if we didn't extend our tank the way we did when COVID hit.

Forget GM Pierre Dorion, he's architect Pierre Dorion to me.
