One thing I have noticed about Dorion and his ability to evaluate his own roster .. is that he is pretty consistently overly optimistic on what he has pieced together. Some of his seemingly poor decisions are tied to this. Duchene is an example. Debrincat may be another. That was a big move trading futures for DeBrincat 9m this year and next if he doesn't sign and he isn't moved.. The move just seems a little premature now. I do like the Giroux move even though we can expect a continued slow down .. He is a quality vet that the Sens have missed through the tear down and players not wanting to stay.
Not addressing the D year after year .. I can't explain

I think the roster construction holes probably means that DeBrincat will be moved either that or some other significant salary out move will be needed.
Reupping DJ was not a good evaluation for taking this team to the next level.

Its pretty clear this team as constructed with the lack of ability to implement any kind of defensive consistency was not taking a big next step and imo this is due to the construction, coaching and the maturation of the current roster.

This was a big at bat for Dorion and DJ and .. they hit a weak grounder to first and Bill Buckner wasn't defending.

Emotional scouts make poor GMs.

What exactly is your point?

Dorion didn't get as much as he should have for Stone when he was dealt, and unfortunately the main piece of the deal was Brannstrom who has been a major disappointment.

Stone having injury issues years later doesn't change that.
Nope, but it sure does make it feel good that he didn’t sign that massive deal here.

Wish him well, the trade flipped since Branny ended up not reaching his billing at the time.

Yeah big long-term contracts for UFAs rarely work out in the end. In most cases we'd be better off trading upcoming UFAs approaching their late 20s.

Stone is still a really good player when healthy but he might end up going the Seabrook route and ending up LTIRetired sooner rather than later with his back issues.

If Stone was still here with a $9million contract and we got a rich ass owner after Melnyk, we could LTIR loophole our way into a cup.

Honestly hope that whomever new ownership is, they are financially powerful/willing to take advantage of loopholes like this, in addition to signing bonuses that might be able to get certain deals done.

One limitation that is imposed on Dorion by working for the Sens, he can't offer signing bonuses to the same extent as other organizations. Heck, only Zaitsev and Hamonic had signing bonuses this year which is telling of how much of a step up some other franchises have had on us.
