Honestly, it's just really nice to hear him admit this. Really feels like the start of a new era in so many ways.

Amen. Good on Dorion for acknowledging this as he's received the same good will from the fan base. He's turned his rep around in one offseason and not just from the personnel decisions.

Who’s the best American born UFA our front office has signed in the past 35 years ?

Mceachern and Anderson come to mind but they were already acquired via trade before we got them.

The states will have more players playing hockey than Canada soon. Dorion has some work to do to open us this talent stream.

This matters how? There's only so many guys you want as UFA's and that pool is smaller when it's Americans only.

Ottawa has 4 or 5 amazing Americans on the roster right now, 2 of them signed long term. If Ottawa gets good and the $ are there to bring in a UFA, they'll consider coming here if they want to win.

I don't think that's the answer you were looking for though

It always comes down to wanting to win. Also, lots of stars love playing in Canada where they can actually be the main star.

Some don’t, and some crave anonymity. Very few players choose the team because of night life.

Weather is important to some, but so is proximity to family when you have young kids.

Ottawa will do just fine while we’re good and have money to spend. It’s a hidden gem that players know nothing about until they are forced to come here, and then they always seem to love it.

With an arena downtown, more players will be living closer to the ‘action’ and that will be enticing to some as well.

All in all, Ottawa is a beautiful city with lots of cultural things to do. It’s safe, clean, friendly, and filled with families. It’s close to cottage country, and has four seasons for those who like more than just fun in the sun.

Stars live in Ottawa still, they just have to ply here first to truly discover the hidden gem of a city. We’ll be fine.

Team spends, fans spend, house is rocking, team is winning; we have a nice long chunk of this in our history. Downtown arena should make this equation a little easier as well.

Why is it more impressive to get an American free agent than it is to convince Ryan Tkachuk Norris Anderson white etc to all resign long term?

Americans seem to have no problem sticking around.

It’s not … it’s just an untouched talent pool that our front office doesn’t get talent from that other team do.

Talent comes form the draft, trades , and UFA.

Our front office isn’t getting equal access to talent via trades (NTC’s) and UFA.

Well considering the team is only 29 years ol, and when Sens came in League free agency was 32.
And who cares where they were born.
Half or 1/3 our team are Americans it seems like.

When you’re missing a piece you want to access as many suppliers as you can, especially those that cost the least.

The Sens don’t have access to half the trade market and most of the North American UFA talent.

It’s a major challange for our front office to keep this team complete beyond using a complete tear down to restock the cupboards.

Some teams can acquire a scoring winger via UFA like Breadman or Gaudreau and we need to burn a first overall.

Ironic that you chose Panarin and Gaudreau. Columbus tried everything to keep Panarin but he wanted NYC and couldn’t wait to leave meanwhile Gaudreau chose Columbus. I guess not all players think the same. Who would have thought that ?

I don’t think anyone thinks all players think the same …

NYC doesn’t have cap room for JG … it’s an irrelevant point. Sounds like JG is happy to leave Calgary and go to Ohio.

What’s that got to do with the team being 29 years old not 35. Just saying , since that’s what you quoted.
