C'mon, man, we just pulled off arguably the best trade in franchise history since Yashin for Spezza and Chara. There's really no need for the backhanded comments, it just comes off as sad.
There's always the small subset who'll try to play gotcha every chance they get. Its why they log on to HF, they aren't really here for meaningful discussion

If we're using baseball terms - this trade will only be a grand slam if DeBrincat re-signs long-term on a reasonable deal (as opposed to a Bobby Ryan style face-saving overpayment contract).

If he doesn't want to re-sign before next season and we trade him for about the same value to a team he'll extend with, that's still a run.

If he doesn't re-sign and we have to trade him for a lot less than what we gave up, that's a strikeout.

If he won't re-sign but we hold out hope like with Duchene and Stone and trade him for pennies on the dollar at the 2023/24 deadline OR decide to rent him for two years for a fools hope longshot playoff run, that's a strikeout with bases loaded.

I think some fans put up with an awful lot of comments from the vocal frustrated group in here.

I get that people may not notice because their comments are just one of many, but when you’re on the receiving end of endless snide comments and generalizations, because you don’t agree with said group, I’m sure you can understand that it feels a little bit extra good to see the positive outcome.

I always find it interesting that some people will talk shit for days, and then when they’re shown to be wrong, they jump right to criticizing folks for bringing it up.

Every dog gets to have their day, even mods, and the shit shovelers have had their days for a very long time now. :)

Nice mentality you got going for you. A mod of all people

That's cool, you can keep being your miserable self while the adults put their ego aside and discuss with eachother.
You’re not exactly a poster that has had to deal with endless venting that you disagree with, followed by endless personal comments when you stand up to disagree.

I’m not complaining about it, as it’s to be expected in here, but I think it’s alright for those who feel vindicated to express themselves. God knows when it’s something negative the entire board trips over itself to share its bitterness and frustrations.

Different people need different things, and for those of us who have remained positive throughout this rebuild, and indeed this morning, against the endless tide of despair in here, yeah, it feels good today.

You guys know the drill. Keep the boat motor running and the line in the water.

Dorion made a great trade today. He should be getting kudos for it and it's good to see people step up and say so when they feel it's a time that warrants it.

When you have multiple bad trades and a 5 year playoff drought (one more year and it will be tied for the longest playoff drought by a single GM in history), you look for whatever you can.

It's a good trade but in no way should it erase 5 years of failure. Curious that this trade happens mere days after we hired a couple of assistant GMs.

Exactly.

All the shade we get for saying “hey let’s step back from the endless negativity and try to consider a few other possibilities”, this is finally vindication. Hope things change for the better going forward.

It's 1 trade. 1 very good trade actually.
What vindication?

We are all fans of the team and want what's best. Some disagree on some moves some don't.

Hilarious to see some clamor to declare some sort of victory here...and odd.

Lot of people in this thread acting like DeBrincat came with an extension.

This is a risky move, but one that could be a major win if DeBrincat can get locked-up long-term on a reasonable contract.

Until that happens I don't know how you can call this a very good trade. The outcome is entirely dependent on an event that hasn't happened yet.

The worst case is we’re forced to trade him at the deadline in 2024 … good. Hands we can’t afford everyone at that point anyway .

I certainly hope we'll be a playoff team by 2023/24. If we were to have DeBrincat unsigned on his QO at that point we'd probably just keep him for the rest of the year, which would mean giving up the 7th and more to rent him for a couple seasons. Not great.

If he's not willing to sign by next summer we absolutely should trade him. Hope Dorion learned his lesson from the Duchene and Stone debacles.
