Cool Dave - I get you think players want to come here. It’s cute.

You're the one comparing Ottawa to Siberia. And you want to talk about others being delusional. Nobody is pretending Ottawa is a top destination but there is a salary cap that limits players' options and Ottawa is a decent enough place to start a family.

They're millionaire athletes, Sweatred, they can afford to travel for fun if they want to go party 24/7.

A terrible media appearance from PD. Completely out of touch with reality.
Hmm. Funny you would feel that way as I feel completely the opposite about his presser. Maybe rambled on about Sanderson and gushed a bit much, but I liked everything else

Dorion literally said today in his presser “it’s hard to get free agents to come to Ottawa”

And your still arguing wether it’s hard to get FA’s to Ottawa.

I get it - if you accept that players choose to avoid Ottawa it’s hard to criticize every “dumb” move the GM makes.

He said it's hard. You're saying it's impossible.

Hell, you even suggested that Chychryn, who's signed for 3 more seasons and has no trade protection, would refuse to come here and would force a trade out.

You've gone a bit far.

Ottawa needs to offer all of Giroux, Trocheck, Palat, Kadri, Neiderreiter, Strome, Burakovsky, etc, $1-1.5M more per season than any other team, and one of them will gladly play here for the next 3-5 years. That means a 3-4 year deal at $6-7M.

Tomatoe / Tomatoe - we all know the odd UFA signs here.

All we need is the "odd" free-agent. We only have 20 roster spots and most of them are taken by players we've drafted.

Do you think people are suggesting that the Senators should sign 2-3 premium UFAs every summer? Nobody does that. Not even LA or NY.

I’m starting to firm up on the idea that I really don’t want to trade the picks. Draft our kids, and try our best to get whatever we can at the upper end of the UFA list.

We look to be in a better competitive situation than last year, so hopefully that is more attractive to all potential suitors….

….. Though we’re the suitors, and the UFAs are the belles at the fancy coming of age party…..

Problem is we’re working class, a little gruff, calloused hands, but we’re handsome and work hard, there’s value in that…. I’d choose me :)

I don't need to criticize moves missed out on.

My issue with the Fiala trade and signing is we get a leak out of Dorion and the front office about how "7 years was too much" after these clowns traded a 2nd for Stepan on the end of his "too much" contract.

Which is it? Are they stupid or are they lying to us? Both?

And then we can move to the Hamonic trade. A rookie GM on the job for less than 3 months managed to negotiate a third round pick for his salary dump (Hamonic) to Ottawa. Dorion had been a GM for nearly 6 years and a guy on the job 2 months convinced Dorion to give up a third round pick for his salary dump.

We could go down the list of moves made by Dorion over the years for an even clearer picture. As far as I'm concerned he's making a play for worst GM of all time. He sounds defeated because he is. He's not stupid. He's bad at his job and he knows there will be no second chance just like Mike Milbury didn't get a second chance, Doug MacLean didn't get a second chance. It hasn't worked out. He probably dreamed of being a successful GM. He is not a successful GM and he never will be.

He should come to terms with that. He seems to do a decent job in a scouting role of some kind. Best of luck finding that job after his inevitable firing (hopefully sooner rather than later).

crazy the 180 the organization has done many respects since the death of Melnyk.

But the worst lingering stench will remain as long as Dorion is still here.

I think I have found the problem with Pierre. Now this was translated from French and perhaps poorly, but it's quite funny just the same. Pierre making trades trying to improve the other side. It explains a lot really :)

Quoted from a Brucie article in the Sun

“I have a lot of respect for Kent Hughes and (president of hockey operations) Jeff Gorton. If the trade allows both teams to improve we’ll consider it,” Dorion said. “If the trade allows both teams to improve, we will consider it seriously.”

Why does the trade need to benefit Montreal for Dorion to consider it lol

The question was something along the lines of would you demand more in a trade from a team making an offer from within the division, and he replied he has a good working relationship with Hughes and Gorton, has made deals with them in the past, and if they make an offer that benefts both teams {as in Mtl's offer also helps us} they'd consider it seriously. It was fine, but comes off stupid in the article.

Dorion using Ottawa as an excuse is infuriating. If he thinks that's the perception, help change it. Take a page out of Masai Ujiri's playbook. Don't perpetuate it so you can make your own failings look a little less bad.

Maybe he is done. Once the lawsuit is sorted out in September, partners are brought in and things will change. Maybe he is a lame duck GM. Just going along. Bowness could be calling the shots now for all we know.
I think the lawsuit have be reported in January
