Tarasenko is a free asset the math is not mathing.

Also the pick given up for Chychrun is not on that list.
He is simply stating that to fill the Dabrincat void this team added a 1st, Kubalik and Tarasenko. In other words, we are better off now than we were a month ago.

Now, I want management to truly blow me away. Unless we can move Joseph in a trade without tons of assets following do the unthinkable in Sens Land…..

Go get an LTIR contract, Weber for Joseph and Boucher get it done, maybe toss in Brannstrom if needed? Clears $5m in cap alone plus gives almost $8m in LTIR

Then go sign Tatar and maybe lock in Pinto long term

LTIR doesn't work like that. That would literally be Andlauer taking on a debt for no reason.

Don’t think Pinto is looking for a long term deal at this point…. He can see where he stands on the depth chart, and who is above him, and a shorter term allowing him to revisit free agency, in some form, sooner rather than later…and assuming his stock has risen, could be looking at a bigger contract then, and might force the Sens to make a move to either retain him, or send him elsewhere.

The one contract it would work with ironically is matt Murray (as GCK suggested). By acquiring his LTIR contract, we'd open up the 1.5 we retained

The constantly shifting love/hate that Dorion gets is too funny. For one minute he’s great, then he’s a fool.

I feel sorry for the next GM already!
Yeah crazy when he makes a string of boneheaded moves and public appearances people talk negatively and when he makes good trades and speaks with composure and logic then people speak positively.
What a crazy phenomenon

I think there's a tendency to look at every move in a vacuum, and not as a whole. Taken on the whole, the summer looks pretty good, you can't do the Tarasenko deal without the DeBrincat one, so treating them as fully independent isn't indicative of the job Dorion did, people often undervalue cap space when evaluating trades, and the debrincat deal opened up a lot of cap space.

Its almost like when a GM has stayed in this position for as long as he is, he is bound to have bad and good deals, and fans react to both. Crazy concept I know.

I guess the argument then would be a more even keeled response to both good and bad would be justified instead of the love hate response.

Sports fans are passionate. Don’t see that happening.
Time runs out quick on peak windows.
We’ve wasted a lot of time here while he’s been gm making one step forward and one back. The roster is good now but it’s been frustrating. We possibly could have had playoff teams in the meantime and had a better prospect pool.
Not really a secret that it hasn’t been managed well.
But yes the team looks good on paper now. It’s kind of all on korpisalo the way I see it. Hope everyone can stay healthy.

Hello Sens fans,

Zona fan here (yes we exist), I come in peace -- I'm a neutral toward the Sens, if anything maybe a bit positive because Chych, and I hope you guys do well this year (and in the years beyond). Have some questions about DJ Smith and whether you think he is a good coach and / or is (or should be) on the hot seat this year.

Reason is that your current roster is good / well balanced / doesn't seem like it has any holes -- your top 6 is great, good fwd depth (any team with Pinto in the bottom six is doing well), good top 4 defense, and now with Korpi your goaltending should be solved as well, Korpi is healthy for the first time in a long time and I was really impressed by him in Columbus and LA (reg season) last year.

So, I think this team should probably succeed. But, last year the team was also good but for whatever reason you guys fell off at the end of last year -- yes you had a tough schedule, but this was a team that was tied with Florida and only a couple points out at the trade deadline but ended up finishing well outside. Also, ppl talk about how the Sens aren't great defensively but like... your d-men are good. So at some point it's like... where does the blame lie.

Anyway I'm surprised no one's talking about your HC, so I wanted to find out what you all think. First, is he part of the reason the team is struggling and if so, do you think he should be worried about job security? From the outside, I feel like the answers are yes, but it's very possible I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, you all follow the team much more than I do so I am wondering what you think about your head coach. Again, posting here because I am looking to learn. Thanks!

P.S. Also, wasn't sure where to post this Q, but to me front office includes the coaching, apologies mods if this post is in the wrong place. Thanks again

Got to admit, Dorion took some lemons and made lemonade this offseason.

Lets see how he does in sorting out the cap implications, but it looks good so far.
Yes, interesting move to acquire Tarasenko to fill a slot in top 6.

The next thing will be to deal with the cap issues which will be interesting to see how that gets done.

Short answer is that with a new owner it's quite possible and maybe even likely that the coach (and GM) are being scrutinized. Senator fans are just waiting until the new owner takes over.

One other addition, the Senators dealt with a lot of injuries last year like Norris (whole year pretty much) and Zub, so I guess fans are anxious to see what will happen with healthier team.

You may be interested in this thread for a more complete view, but the fanbase is mostly in one of three camps on DJ:

1. He's well liked in the room and should be given a chance to succeed with this roster,
2. He's burned up all his goodwill and should be shown the door, or
3. He's been an effective development coach but there's skepticism about whether he can take this team to the next level.

Personally, I'm in the third camp. I think he's well liked but a part of why the team is struggling to get over the hump. If we don't get off to a good start, look for DJ's rope to run out very quickly.

Oh cool -- thx for that. I didn't see that thread before (which is a bit weird, it's still on the front page), that's basically exactly the info I'm looking for. I'll go read over there. Thx!

Moving out Joseph, Boucher, and Brannstrom for 1yr of Tarasenko would be, imo, pretty bad.

Many of us have been talking about the deficiencies of the coaching staff. I honestly believe a bad start this year spells the end for DJ, there is no way respected veterans like Giroux and Tarasenko are gonna put up with the same game plan resulting in losses (I imagine they will force the GM’s hand). Hopefully it will also represent a growth opportunity for the young players on the team who have only ever had one coach and seen literally no accountability

gotcha

DBC is still the best player there

1on1, sure. Together, nah. NHL shown us depth is the way to go. We are a better team today with those 2 instead of ADB no question, imo. Moreover, wouldn't be least bit surprised to see either put up a better season than ADB. Unlikely, but would not be surprising.
