Its all what side of the fence you are on. The want Dorion out side, the My God Dorion is super human side and the middle of the road side.
The Want out side rails against Dorion and the My God side rails against those who rail against Dorion and supports and embraces that anti-poster messaging. Mick is a middle of the road guy.
I have an issue with calling posters HATERS just because they are on an opposing side. This is a very autocratic rule thing to do. I am a power to the people guy lol.
Not many ‘Dorion supporters’ in here per say. Most people labeled as such are actually supporters of what the rebuild looks like on the ice. Most would be fine with, and deal with new managers and coaches, it’s just not as important.

There does seem to be serveral people who seem to HATE the coach and GM though, and it seems to colour all their analysis.

Hopefully all the divisiveness will die down with new faces in the front office. That would be nice.

We're talking about a non-playoff team six years running with no goaltending, and nothing resembling playoff-ready depth at either F or D.

There are some great pieces signed to value deals. The top 6 D is in a better place than it has been in a long while, although that's saying very little. Same with the top 6 at F. Beyond that, the roster construction and asset base is woefully inadequate.

Factor in that free agency typically hurts this franchise more than it helps. Factor in that we have very little support coming by way of current prospects, not to mention that high future draft picks have been traded away to get us to current state. And factor in that it didn't have to be this way - this current hockey ops regime has leaked assets rather than accumulating them.

This team should be much further ahead.
So what you're saying is that the team is woefully inadequate except for the entire D and the top 6 forwards?

So basically, the team is good except for the 33% of the team that plays the fewest minutes? Even then, I disagree since getting Pinto back in the bottom 6 is going to be a huge boost to the bottom 6.

What I don't understand is why you either have to love or hate PD's work. Compared to other GMs he has been average. People might view his overall performance below that but I gave him some slack when you factor in the penny pinching and interference from EM.
Basically he has one more kick at the can this summer and his job and future will depend on how he does.

I don't hate his work.

He has had his turn. He has failed. It is time for fresh eyes.

That's it.

If Dorion gets fired and hired tomorrow by another organization in a scout role or an AGM role, good for him. He knows quite a bit about hockey. But he has been in over his head as a manager here and it is time this organization moves on from a known product that has failed to make the playoffs for 6 seasons in a row.

Not a single other organization would have allowed this to happen. No other organization would have kept the same GM for 6 seasons of missing the playoffs. None. I don't get how my take is controversial or hating.

I'm not wishing ill on Dorion or his family. I wish them the best. Somewhere else. Somewhere not here. He has had his chance and he has failed to deliver the playoffs and an eventual contender.

This is the drum I've beaten a few times. I don't see anything that makes it a slam dunk argument in either direction and nobody should be surprised that he's getting another kick at the can, nor should they have been surprised if he were let go this summer. Anyone trying to argue otherwise isn't being honest imo. You can see the core is there, and you can see the depth is thin. Goaltending is still a huge question mark. Plenty of good and plenty of bad. I'm both optimistic and concerned. This summer is huge and he's got some work ahead of him to put together a playoff caliber roster, because it looks a little too thin to call it that yet.

Some things out of his control are two cornerstone pieces in Norris and Chychrun with some pretty big injury concerns. They won't be doing damage without those guys staying healthy.

that generally bring with it: wait and see.

It does NOT bring with it; I am calling and ordering season tickets, or buying partial packages, or single game tickets.

it doe not ensure that the bulk of the money the club needs to operate on, which is spent between June and December, is available....

The good view. The one that they like and need: f*** yea, I'm in. Visa # 4538 xxxxx xxxxx PIN 123.. $8350 for both.. Thank you,

WHEN WE SAY JUMP, YOU SAY; HOW HIGH?

Everyone knows this, right? Okay.

Ya I think its a ticket worth buying at this point.

They need to make the playoffs though, or changes need to be made. It's officially put up or shut up season.

For all the talk of the rebuild and patience, let's look at the timeline of the two most recent "successful" full tear down / tank rebuilds: Pittsburgh and Chicago.

Pittsburgh:

2003: Bottomed out to finish last in the league and acquired core piece MAF.
2005: Key draft for obvious reasons
2006-07: made playoffs
2008-09: Win first of three Cups.

Four years after scrapping it all to rebuild they were in the playoffs and two years after that they won the Cup.

Chicago:
2006: Went into rebuild mode. 3rd last. First franchise piece acquired.
2007: Key draft for obvious reasons
2008-09: Made playoffs and went to WCF.
2009-10: Win first of 3 Cups.

Four years after sucking and getting Toews they won the Stanley Cup. Two years after their key draft they made the WCF.

Now Ottawa:
2018: Acquire captain who joins Chabot (2015) as foundational pieces.
2019: Tank continues but no 1st round pick (could have been Byram, Cozens or Seider)
2020: Key draft in terms of quality and depth.
2021: Miss playoffs draft Boucher (tenuous future as anything more than a role player)
2022: Miss playoffs and trade away 1st round pick - acquire Debrincat
2023: Miss playoffs and trade away 1st round pick - acquire Chychrun

Both Chicago and Pittsburgh made the playoffs less than two years after their most important draft. We're three and counting.

Both franchises won Cups 5 years after their first franchise skater is drafted (goalies take longer). Tkachuk sadly hasn't even played a playoff game in his first 5 years (not saying this is on him).

While I like our core a lot, our management group has done a very poor job of surrounding them with quality support players.

We've got a nice top 6 F right now and a very good top 4 D but anyone who says this rebuild has been successful is ignoring history and in denial about the failures of our organization. The future could still be bright but it needs new leadership.

I want Pittsburgh or Chicago for us, not Buffalo or even Toronto.

sorry Straka.

I have corrected a line

It does NOT bring with it: I am calling and ordering season tickets, or buying partial packages, or single game tickets.

effectively, the message that must go out now is: all is well, all is good.. go buy tickets... It cannot be; Well !!! WE DON'T KNOW, MAYBE, WE'LL SEE...

the faithful, must be faithful at this time, or 165 M worth of team expenses, will come largely out of team owner's pockets.

put or shut up is the battle to fight next year..go back and read last summer.. we offered put up or shut up.. and then drove attendance up by 5 K.

I will leave the marketing and money management up to the team. I do think it's time for fans to buy in. I also don't fault anyone for lacking confidence in the current regime. It's a huge year and the expectations and communication needs to be that the time is now, the playoffs need to be now, anything less is a failure. No more growth type talk as the priority, its time to win some hockey games.

it is not about you or me.. It is about the 90% casual fan..

And the 10% of us on here and diehards in general. Who they fear will sway the casual fan..

The casual fan, relies on you and me.. at work, when we are in the cafeteria, and we bash.. The casual fan, goes into confusion and hesitation. If we endorse, he gets confident.

Credit cards appear, when you and me and a solid 2,000-3,000 fans talk hockey everywhere and do so in a positive light.

Credit cards disappear, when we condemn...... Melknyk out... 400 M in team debts, no Lebreton, so no $2B net worth. It cost the sisters: 400 M in direct cash, and 1.1 B in lost opportunity. Essentially about they walked away with $500M, instead of $2B. Driven by a few thousand die-hards that went unchecked.

The faithful must always be the faithful and sing from the same Hymn book. Never question, never challenge, never issue "put up or shut up" ultimatums.

I have no idea what you're going for here. That's up to the organization to figure out the money part and I assume the new owner is confident having spent almost 1 billion for it.

It looks to have been a solid investment for the Melnyk family even after the debt payouts. I don't fault anyone that was part of #MelnykOut.

they sold for 900 M. They have debts of 400 M... they made 500 M.. plus retain 10%

Melnyk butted heads with everyone from 2015-2019.. He could not get Lebreton built.

If no Melnyk Out, the CTC is not half empty 2017-2022.. so the 400 M debt is way less..
If no Melnyk Out and the general anger in that period, politicians would be way more accommodating and Lebreton may have been built 2016-2020 and the team today is worth 2 B.

Fan anger, driven principally by the diehards. In a an environment were the message was not filtered and suppressed. Cost the Melnyks $2 B or as a minimum 400 M in debts.

walk away with 500 M + 10% or walk away with 1.8 B + 10% (with some in between points).

The lesson that was learned; suppress movements, filter messages..DO not allow decent. Encourage cool aide drinking..

I'm going to be honest and just say that this is a subject I'm mostly bowing out on now. I supported #MelnykOut for my own reasons and I think they spent at a level and provided a product that the attendance reflected, and below cap floor spending helped make up for lack of revenue. Either way, its up to these big money folk to figure all this out, not the regular joe like me. I just hope we have a guy that doesn't run around pissing everyone off.

6 D is not enough depth to make a run. It also assumes that Hamonic and Branny return, both of which are not assured. And Lassi/JBD are unproven in playoff style hockey as next men up. I like the look of our top 4 a lot. But series are won and lost with depth, and it's often said you need 8 or so competent D to make a run. Moves need to be made this summer to make that happen. Not impossible, but we are not there.

The top 6 F are great. Happy with status quo, assuming a slight downgrade on DBC comes back. However, you need three legitimate scoring lines and a truculent and defensive-minded grinder line to make waves come playoff time. That is not how this roster is constructed.

You talk about getting Pinto back in the bottom 6, which leads me to my final point. Our centres are too small. Stutzle/Norris/Pinto are highly skilled, but I have questions about how often we will see all three in the lineup simultaneously due to vulnerability. And come playoff time, I have concerns as to how they'll get leaned on by teams with big defencemen and centres.

Without question, the rebuild has accelerated. I'm just not sold on it, nor should anyone be - we are in the midst of our longest playoff drought, and there are legitimate concerns that it may be prolonged.

I mean the sens have had a successful rebuild in this franchises history. We literally witnessed it. They didnt win a cup but they built a perennial contender that made the playoffs for 11 straight seasons. I have a feeling most fans that post here didnt witness it considering how many dont think picks are valuable at this point. That version of the sens never burned assets they continually drafted until Muckler got here and thats when it ended. You need a constant stream of draft and developed talent to continue to be competitive. This management group has already moved away from that and they havent even made the playoffs. I cant believe with how many massive losses Dorion has had on the trade front anyone thinks he has succeeded. There is a very long list of misses to go with 6 years of not making the playoffs and having a bottom 10 prospect pool. That is without a doubt a massive fail.

Ear marks of Dorion.
He has a hard time evaluating his own roster.. too often siding with hope over substance.
He is Petty
He will do anything to save his job

why are you defensive Dude. I supported Melnyk out.

This is not about them.. this is about the other side.

It failed to counter Melnyk out.. And they have learned their lesson...

Today is about: messaging, spin. Ensuring no negativity settles in. That is it.

Making sure, we all drink the cool aider and never form another Melnyk out movement..

Well Pittsburgh doesn't win squat if the end up with anything other than the first selection in the 2005 draft. Luck does play a big part in winning.

I didn't mean to be defensive, just a bit confused what you were going for, and I'd made a bit of a commitment to myself to leave the Melnyk stuff in the past at this point. I thought you were arguing for him, but I see what you mean now. I'm glad the franchise should finally be in capable hands of someone willing to put their ego aside for what's best for the franchise. Should be a breath of fresh air after the toxic environment it's been stuck in. Alfie coming back will be a big symbol for positive change.

it was incredible to see a movement; form, flourish and act.

I am proud of it. Activism that worked.

Now we will have to endure the counter-counter movement. Spin will be at an all time high for the next few years. And it will be insufferable.
