Toronto Deals Kaberle, acquires Ott

In a major trade out of Toronto, the Leafs have shipped Tomas Kaberle to the Dallas Stars, acquiring Forward Steve Ott and the #7 Overall pick in the 2010 draft.

"With the addition of Phaneuf and the rise of Gunnarsson, this was a move we could afford to make" GM T_Cage noted on the FAN 590, "Ott is a prototypical 'Toronto' player and was highly sought, plus the #7 pick will fetch a stud prospect that wil help replace the picks lost in the Kessel deal, while Dallas gets a quality top-pairing D. This is a rare Win-win for both sides"

Rumour has it T.O isnt done talking, and might move up from 7 if they can find a trader. They are also still seeking a #1C or Top 6 scorer if the price is right, and might be interested in another 2010 pick.

After a poor season, the Boston Bruins have agreed to trade the 2nd overall pick, Jordan Caron and Michael Ryder to the Buffalo Sabres for Thomas Vanek. Thomas Vanek has been struggling since he signed his latest contract and is probably the only reason he was available us. Boston believes Thomas will have all the tools around him to succeed and believe that he will return to 2006/07 form.

i dont like that trade for the Bruins Vanek cost much more money and they give up a good prospect in Caron and a player that could match Vaneks output next year and cost way less (Segun or Hall) nice trade for the Sabers though.

If you're looking for some inexpensive veteran options to fill some holes, we're looking to move a few guys fairly cheap:

Peter Prucha, Taylor Pyatt, Jim Vandermeer, Kurt Sauer.

Will also consider moving one of Kyle Turris or Mikkel Boedker, but won't be cheap.

Kings add tough Olympic Defenseman

Brent_Seabrook_1.jpg

The LA Kings are extremely happy to announce the acquisition of one of the top young defensemen in the NHL, Brent Seabrook. Brent is a punishing young defenseman who we feel will be a perfect partner for Drew Doughty on our top pairing. A Doughty-Seabrook pairing, in our opinion, is one of the best in the NHL, and it will only get better.

In exchange for this fine young defenseman, the Kings send defenseman Matt Greene, defenseman Thomas Hickey, and goaltender Martin Jones to Chicago. Seabrook is an upgraded version of Greene with more offensive upside, and the Kings felt as though the different between the two was worth our first round pick and a solid goalie, but a goalie who was a victim of numbers in the Kings' organization. This move in our opinion puts the Kings' defense near the top of the league with youngsters Colten Teubert and Vyacheslav Voinov still waiting in the wings.

Kings' offseason:

Added-RW Ryan Callahan, D Brent Seabrook, D Cory Sarich, C Matt Stajan, NYR 2nd

Lost-PHI 2nd, NYR 3rd, LA 3rd, Matt Greene, Martin Jones, Thomas Hickey

Still looking to move Jarret Stoll. Have a couple of offers, but waiting to hear back from some people.

I know Vanek's production has been underwhelming in Buffalo but he has the skill to pot 40 goals a season, he's done it before and I think he'll do it again playing with Krejci. Jordan Caron was a "throw-in" prospect imo, nothing special. Potential 3rd line winger. Michael Ryder was ready to ride the waiver wire if it wasn't for this deal. I just hope Seguin or whoever Buffalo picks will be scoring 30..40+ goals for them to make this deal fair.:sarcasm:

The Blackhawks confirm

With Seabrook's contract set to expire after next season the Hawks needed to look for cost certainty.

This package gives us a top 4 dman signed longterm at a respectable cap hit and a blue chip D prospect that could be part of team next season.

Jones is going to be given the reigns in Rockford next season. He is the Hawks longterm plan in net. He has a bright future ahead

We thank Brent for his contributions to our 1st cup in nearly half a century

Versteeg is on his way out of Chicago also

Update of deals

Out - Sharp and Seabrook
In - LW Brett Maclean , C/W Victor Tikhonov , D Matt Greene , D Thomas Hickey and G Martin Jones

Eric Brewer On His Way Out?
1lead_brewer_eric.jpg

Looks more and more like Eric Brewer could be on his way out of town.

John Davidson has let the defensemen know that he has fallen off the charts in St. Louis. With players like Erik Johnson, Roman Polak, Barret Jackman, and Mike Weaver taking the top four spots in St. Louis, its looking like Brewer will be traded sooner rather than later.

New York Islanders Continue Rebuild With Versteeg

Chicago_Blackhawks_v_460d.jpg

The New York Islanders are pleased to announce the acquisition of Kris Versteeg, the young, skilled, and speedy player who was a Calder Trophy finalist last season. GM Garth Snow felt that the 24 year old winger will compliment the Islanders' rebuild by being able to play effectively in coach Scott Gordon's overspeed system. It is rumored that Versteeg will be playing alongside center Josh Bailey, who is developing into the playmaker he was scouted as.

In exchange for Versteeg, the Islanders have sent their 2nd round (36th overall) pick, defensive prospect Blake Kessel and goaltending prospect Anders Nilsson.

*************************************************

The Islanders are still in talks regarding their sixth overall pick, forward Sean Bergenheim, and defenseman Mark Streit. If you are interested in any of these 3 (or anyone else on the roster), feel free to send all offers my way. I should be able to get back to all of you tonight. Updated roster is in the roster thread.

Carolina is placing Rod Brind'Amour on Waivers. Rod is a veteran with a wealth of experience who can help a cup contender. Because of his age and cap hit he no longer fits in Carolina's plans.

If Rob clears he will be asigned to our AHL affiliate to share his wealth of knowledge with our upcoming players.
