New York Islanders Continue Rebuild With Versteeg
The New York Islanders are pleased to announce the acquisition of Kris Versteeg, the young, skilled, and speedy player who was a Calder Trophy finalist last season. GM Garth Snow felt that the 24 year old winger will compliment the Islanders' rebuild by being able to play effectively in coach Scott Gordon's overspeed system. It is rumored that Versteeg will be playing alongside center Josh Bailey, who is developing into the playmaker he was scouted as.
In exchange for Versteeg, the Islanders have sent their 2nd round (33rd overall) pick, defensive prospect Blake Kessel and goaltending prospect Anders Nilsson.

The Blackhawks confirm this
With Jack Skille ready for NHL duty the Hawks felt we could afford to move Versteeg. Also gives us long term options with the cap room it creates.
The 2nd is basically a late 1st given the talent we can grab at the spot.
Kessel and Nilsson are both longterm prospects. Both will continue to develop well away from NHL. Nilsson in particular will be allowed to establish himself as a goalie in SEL before coming over
With Jones and Nilsson in system pipeline Hawks are happy with the goaltending depth longterm.
Kessel is nothing spectacular but with time can be a quality NHL dman in our opinion. He will be given ample team as he is buried behind alot of blue chip defensive prospects
We thank Kris for his contributions to our Cup!
