New York Islanders Continue Rebuild With Versteeg

Chicago_Blackhawks_v_460d.jpg

The New York Islanders are pleased to announce the acquisition of Kris Versteeg, the young, skilled, and speedy player who was a Calder Trophy finalist last season. GM Garth Snow felt that the 24 year old winger will compliment the Islanders' rebuild by being able to play effectively in coach Scott Gordon's overspeed system. It is rumored that Versteeg will be playing alongside center Josh Bailey, who is developing into the playmaker he was scouted as.

In exchange for Versteeg, the Islanders have sent their 2nd round (33rd overall) pick, defensive prospect Blake Kessel and goaltending prospect Anders Nilsson.

*************************************************.

The Blackhawks confirm this

With Jack Skille ready for NHL duty the Hawks felt we could afford to move Versteeg. Also gives us long term options with the cap room it creates.

The 2nd is basically a late 1st given the talent we can grab at the spot.

Kessel and Nilsson are both longterm prospects. Both will continue to develop well away from NHL. Nilsson in particular will be allowed to establish himself as a goalie in SEL before coming over

With Jones and Nilsson in system pipeline Hawks are happy with the goaltending depth longterm.

Kessel is nothing spectacular but with time can be a quality NHL dman in our opinion. He will be given ample team as he is buried behind alot of blue chip defensive prospects

We thank Kris for his contributions to our Cup!

Update on Hawks moves

-Out = D Brent Seabrook , C/W Patrick Sharp and LW/RW Kris Versteeg

-In = D Matt Greene , D Thomas Hickey , LW Brett Maclean , C/W Victor Tikhonov , D Blake Kessel , G Martin Jones , G Anders Nilsson and Isles 2nd round pick ( 33rd overall )

Has this been modified enough? Hickey in place of the 1st 2010 is not that big of a swap

Kings add tough Olympic Defenseman

Brent_Seabrook_1.jpg

The LA Kings are extremely happy to announce the acquisition of one of the top young defensemen in the NHL, Brent Seabrook. Brent is a punishing young defenseman who we feel will be a perfect partner for Drew Doughty on our top pairing. A Doughty-Seabrook pairing, in our opinion, is one of the best in the NHL, and it will only get better.

In exchange for this fine young defenseman, the Kings send defenseman Matt Greene, defenseman Thomas Hickey, and goaltender Martin Jones to Chicago. Seabrook is an upgraded version of Greene with more offensive upside, and the Kings felt as though the different between the two was worth our first round pick and a solid goalie, but a goalie who was a victim of numbers in the Kings' organization. This move in our opinion puts the Kings' defense near the top of the league with youngsters Colten Teubert and Vyacheslav Voinov still waiting in the wings.

Kings' offseason:

Added-RW Ryan Callahan, D Brent Seabrook, D Cory Sarich, C Matt Stajan, NYR 2nd

Lost-PHI 2nd, NYR 3rd, LA 3rd, Matt Greene, Martin Jones, Thomas Hickey

Still looking to move Jarret Stoll. Have a couple of offers, but waiting to hear back from some people.

The Blackhawks have traded RW Dustin Byfuglien and the Flames 2nd in 2011 to the Washington Capitals for the Caps 1st in 2010 (29th overall)

We thank Dustin for his contribution to the Hawks and wish him well with the team we defeated in the Finals.

So to recap

Out in Chicago - D Brent Seabrook (To LA) , W/C Patrick Sharp (To Pho) , LW/RW Kris Versteeg (To NYI) , RW/LW Dustin Byfugien (To Was) , G Cristobal Huet (Waived/Buried in Minors) and Flames 2nd in 2011 (To Was)

Carolina is placing Rod Brind'Amour on Waivers. Rod is a veteran with a wealth of experience who can help a cup contender. Because of his age and cap hit he no longer fits in Carolina's plans.

If Rob clears he will be asigned to our AHL affiliate to share his wealth of knowledge with our upcoming players.

You realize due to the 35+ rule you are stuck with his cap hit even if you send him down, right?

The Islanders are still in talks regarding their sixth overall pick, forward Sean Bergenheim, and defenseman Mark Streit. If you are interested in any of these 3 (or anyone else on the roster), feel free to send all offers my way. I should be able to get back to all of you tonight. Updated roster is in the roster thread.

The 33rd overall belongs to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The pick you traded is the 36th overall.

:habs UPDATE

We are interested to hear offers for Ryan O'Byrne and our 2010 1st round pick (18th overall). We would be looking to get an upgrade over Ryan O'Byrne. We would want a great young defenseman on a cheap contract (2M$ or less).

PM!

The Boston Bruins are still looking to add a top-6 winger, and top-4 defenseman. Boston's 1st round pick (15th overall), Toronto's 2nd round pick (32nd), and Patrice Bergeron may potentially be available. Tim Thomas is also being dangled. Only one team potentially interested at this point.

AVS LET GO OF MANY UFA's
The Colorado Avalanche are letting go of many free agents this year, names including gritty forward Darcy Tucker, young winger Marek Svatos, rugged defenseman Ruslan Salei, Brett Clark, enforcer David Koci aswell as Matt Hendricks and Chris Durno. Goaltender Peter Budaj contract talks have stopped aswell.

Stephane Yelle has decided to end his career and retire on the team that he won the cup with in 2000.

We wish the best of luck to these players in hope of moving on from the Colorado dynasty.

The Rangers have come to terms with Alex Frolov on a 6 year, $33 million dollar contract.

Again, we are pleased to have Alex provide a necessary scoring punch behind Marian Gaborik, and although sad to see Ryan Callahan go, he was a class Ranger and wish him the best in his future endeavors.

Alexander Semin a Calgary Flame

The deal has been finalized and worked out, and it will see

:flames receive:
Semin
Orlov
Kurgryshev

:caps receive:
Kiprusoff
Negrin
4th

We lose a Top 10 goalie in the NHL, but with a renewed focus on youth and a culture change coming in Calgary we acquire a talented young forward who's been overshadowed by Ovechkin and has put up fantastic numbers and has the potential to be a 90-100 point forward. Kiprusoff has been amazing in Calgary and has a chance to win a cup in Washington in the near future, whereas we in Calgary look to start over again with solid prospects and a young foundation. We gain 2 great russian prospects, something our team has previously shyed away from which will change throughout this rebuild.

:caps confirm,we are very said to see Semin go,but are ecstatic to bring in Mikka he's a top 10 if not top5 goalie in the NHL,and is having a great year on a horrible Flames team, imagine what he can do on one of the best teams in the league.

Actually, the deal we agreed on includes a full NTC for the first 2 years and a limited NTC (10 teams he would NOT accept a trade to) for the rest of the contract.
