Meanwhile Dave Tippet got overlooked for our coaching vacancy not once but twice. The guy is one of the best X's and O's guys out there and has proven he knows how to get the best out of his players even the less than average ones. This offseason I for one hope that we give Dave a good old kick of the tires. He was a solid King and knows all about the challenges of playing in slocal.
I’m not a Luc apologist but this is pure theory and unfounded speculation.
It was even bad on these boards with the DL and Sutter stuff. Many didn’t believe DL would adapt to the new NHL. Thanks to his own comments and the USA debacle.
Helene is pissed that says a lot.
Tippet played for LA? He was an assistant coach but I dont think he ever played here.
Speed and youth is not a new thing in hockey. We all saw what happened when Brown was being shopped around prior to the first cup run.
The issue is the culture in LA, someone said it has reverted back to a country club atmosphere. That’s exactly what’s happened and that’s exactly what Blake and Luc know.
it's funny that we get destroyed by avg teams like Ottawa Buffalo and New York
yet a smaller score of 4-1 by the Leafs caused Leafs fans to swamp our forum lol
nothing special Buds, everyone is destroying us
He was even the PP coach when I think we were like top 5 or something
Maybe so, but they gave up on the hard ass coaching too. That has a shelf life and it became an obvious grind noticeable only half a season past their last cup when they locked Sutter out.Speed and youth is not a new thing in hockey. tippett is literally the definition of "more of the same"Meanwhile Dave Tippet got overlooked for our coaching vacancy not once but twice. They all have value. In some cases term isn’t bad to add in a trade. If they walked away with a couple of first it would be a start.
Well here's a couple of thoughts, Terry Murray, Sutter, and Stevens are all Lombardi hirings, my issue is that Blake should have gotten rid of them all and got a new head coach who can implement a new system correctly, while being a new voice.
The biggest failure of blake and Co is that Stevens stayed.
I'm not at the point where I long for Sutter and Lombardi.
But what I do long for is a clear direction and a willingness to completely change the tone of the franchise.
A new head coach would have been the right way to do it.
Hell I even like what Blake has done for the most part but regardless I don't like the country club mentality this team has sorta bought into.
The coaches responsibility is to prepare players ultimately. Failures nonstop from the team suggest to me that the coach is doing nothing. A very important job and an easy problem to fix. No doubt that there are some players that need to go, but better to fire the staff first and see what you're getting with the new staff then judge from there.Still not sold that Stevens is the issue, but....it's looking like he can't right the ship regardless...if they had come out strong like they did vs NYI, then probably would have a different outlook, but there was no reason for them to come out this flat, this bad etc.
I can't agree with this, the Kings can't play trap hockey. Tippett implements a very safe style of hockey that's built upon hiding problems. Also, I've read coyotes fan often say he is poor with rookies.Meanwhile Dave Tippet got overlooked for our coaching vacancy not once but twice. I think Stevens was one less thing to think about for Blake.
Hell, look how the “core” responded last year.
Now, the playoffs maybe should have cost Stevens his job. But without the right personnel, LA could not roll four up tempo lines.
I don't think you can do both at the same time, unless it's like a Carter deal etc, IF they are to bring in someone new, they HAVE to have the ability to sit down, evaluate and see if Pearson, Toffoli, Amadio, etc are to be kept, can be used etc...I think if you start jettisoning players, and then bring in a new coach, you are committed to a full rebuild at that point, and LA won't do that, they are gonna try and retool if anything.
Would be interesting to see how Jeff Skinner would have fared if he ended up in LA.
Surpringsly he didn't get traded for nearly as much as I thought he would have.
Lol I said that 2-3 pages back.Wayne Gretzky to coach the Kings !!!

99-00 was his first year, I dont think we were a top 5 anything during those early years.
That's a broken player.
