I think we will resign one of Mitchell or Greene (preferably Mitchell at this point) then sign a free agent or work McNabb in the lineup.

Sutter: "You might argue that the best player, other than Kopitar, in the league, is Crosby. So we’ve got to handle him tonight."

WOW, love, love, love this quote. Kopi is the best. King for LIFE!!!!

Even if Gaborik is resigned, the Kings have a lot of cap space that'd could be used to sign a quality UFA defenseman.

no matter what I think Greene should look elsewhere. I think he would be a good fit back in Edmonton. DL should offer Mitchell an extension if a deal doesn't get worked out than Greene should still move out.
I am excited about McNabb, and think he can push for a spot.

The Kings really have a chance to do something special again this season. I thought the team pretty much veteran'd their way to the WCF with their injuries on D last season. By Kings standards, last year's team defense was not that good. Also, they had a horrendous road record. Two things that were a Kings strength in years past.

This year, the defense has been stellar and the team is back to being just as comfortable on the road than at home. That bodes well. Don't look now but they've also been scoring goals since the break / Gabby acquisition. One thing I did like to see was Drew in pre-game interviews pumping Crosby's tires yet saying that he needed to stop him. It made me smile because I knew Drew was going to step his game up. When he publicly takes on responsibility, he usually handles it.

I just love the way Sutter says this too. It's almost like Crosby is an after thought when he thinks of the best player in the league. And he's so sure about it, too .

I think the spot is already his to lose as per waiver rules. He has to be with the club next year but I fully agree with you.

Mitchell needs to come back. you can only have so much finesse on the back end before you get fully away from Kings hockey. His vet presence needs to be there and as I said elsewhere I can't see DL letting Scuderi, Greene, Mitchell all walking in two years span for nothing. McNabb also may need to be insulated or slowly worked in. Plus, you heard the criticism is about his skating, so.... :P

But this team right now is looking as good as ever. I'm excited.

McNabb will be RR v 2.0 but bigger.

I also like the fact that the team is playing well on the road. It's reminiscent of the the 2012 team.

However, I'm less optimistic about the team overall than you. Our starting 6 defensemen aren't anywhere near as good as they were during the 2012 cup run, and I don't think Quick is as good either.

Not trying to change your mind because I think it's fair to be skeptical but I think Regehr has been great lately though 2012 Scuderi > him. 2014 Doughty looks to be ready to continue beasting, not worried about his playoff version. Mitchell is a step slower but still powerful, Martinez is as good as ever. But I don't think they're far off and at least they're trending up. Edit: durr, forgot Voynov--I think that's a big worry but we will see. He's still on-and-off lately but at least his on moments are great--physical, decisive.

Quick I'm much less worried about as he's 8-2-0 with a .924 sv.% and 1.88 GA in March. I know we tend to remember the stinkers like the PHX game, but that's pretty damn good. Of course, that's a far cry from the record setting .946 in the 2012 playoffs, but I think that's an unfair bar to set.

Add that to the now-trending-up play of Brown and Richards and though I don't think we're yet firing on all cylinders we're definitely curving in the right direction just in time for the playoffs. That's very encouraging.

And let's not forget the 2012 Kings didn't look like they were going to run anyone over in the week or two leading up to the playoffs, either; we actually put ourselves in the unenviable-at-the-time position of facing the #1 seed Canucks.

McNabb's favorite player as a kid and more is Regehr according to McNabb himself.

How funny.

I think since we've gotten the late-career version people tend to forget how beastly Regehr was in his prime.

I am the only one thinking our defense looks something like this next year
drew muzzin
salva a mart
mcnab rr
Boderchuk

I really think after watching A mart alot closer last game or two. He can pay top 4 defensive side and is more responsble then most think. Just a thought for all you experts to talk about lol

I don't think that would be so far fetched honestly, I just personally don't see DL losing Green/Mitchell at once, and certianly not those two and Scuderi in consecutive years (with RR to follow shortly thereafter).

I'd be shocked if Matt Greene stayed for a number of reasons. I guarantee some bottom feeder like Edmonton will offer him a four year contract which we all know is ridiculous. He's been awesome for us and is a great leader, but we need to move on. He simply isn't going to help this team win anymore. I'm thankful for everything he has done though. A true professional.

To be honest i had Mitchell as the number 7 then thought Boderchuk would have to go thru waivers at training camp and didnt think hed clear to be honest. I didnt want to see another Hickey situation. I think its a damned if u do and damned if you don't

I totally agree getting Greene was the start of our turn around He has done everything asked of him and more. If he wants to return at the end of his carrer i think he would make a heck of a assistant coach. I also agree some team will sign him for alot. However i think shark philly pitts nyr are more likely then edmonton athou it would be a good move for them to get him He would be a good mentor for there young d
