Post-Game Talk: GM 70 | Blues def. Canucks | 4-3 (OT) (Boeser x2, Sherwood) | So close.

I don't understand why they didn't have EP and Boeser together in the OT.

Last thing about the OT goal...I like how Debrusk was waving to the bench that he needed to change right in front of the Blues player who had the puck. What was he thinking?

DeBrusk also on for the tying goal.

I like DeBrusk, still a great signing imo but not a great night for him either.

Big picture, the Canucks have still won just once this season when they entered the third period behind on the scoreboard. And their OT record of 5-11 isn't nearly good enough.

Two reasons why they're still likely to miss imo. And since the start of the calendar year, the teams around them like St. Louis and Calgary, have been far better.

That's why it's so disappointing that Lekkerimaki is out of the lineup. He needs to play in these type of games--even if it only benefits him for next season.

40 is gonna need some substantial help at C. Was out of gas at the end when he turned it over and needs to get stronger. Year has been a disaster but at least he looks the part of a 1st line C now.

This team is just not good enough down the middle. Suter's skating and face offs were abysmal...was he partying after getting 20 goals or something jeesh. Amen and Blueger not good enough. Say what we will about Chytil but good grief we could use someone who can back a teams defense off from time to time.

Boeser is so friggen clutch the turds who say the worst things imaginable about him should be ashamed. If they were smart they would sign him and just get on with trading anything possible to get a top6C. If they don't we wont have to worry about Hughes Pettersson or anyone in the near future even getting a sniff at a long playoff run

Awkward game for an obviously hurt Hughes. Was not himself in this one. Had to laugh when people pointed the finger at Myers who only moved across because Hughes watched Kyrou for 60ft and still hadn't made a move towards him. Did a lot of that in this game

Liked the work of Sherwood Hoglander and Joshua on the forecheck and the defence outside of Hughes watching and being off his usual self

Some players had the alligator arms.

When you watch that Petey pass from this angle it's such a special play. For him to wait for the play to be onside and then bring the puck over the line and then make that pass phenomenal. Great finish by Boeser, when I watched it on real time i thought don't take a Myers slap shot and miss by 5 feet Boeser.

I wish I had the job security that Tyler Myers does. Literally every player that plays alongside him looks better when they are separated, and he made a Norris winner struggle all night. This smooth brain should never have been resigned, and now he'll be taking minutes from Willander in the near future. Sucks

The team needs to reign in Hughes.
Maybe not popular opinion, but looking at Hughes in the defensive zone the last couple months and he's just been all over. He's a great rover, but he's been on the RD side of the ice, LD, net front, just unpredictable in the D zone lately.

Not sure what's changed but it's like the leash is off and rules no longer apply.

Not only that, but his shifts are way too long/frequent some times.

Injured and overplayed. I think Tocc needs to trust the 3rd pair more and play them. Only 10 mins for EP2 tonight.

Team stole a point in a game that they desperately needed to at least get a point out of. No complaints from me on the result with how they played that game, not often you'll get a point out of a game where your top player has an off-game like Hughes did tonight. Hughes has played massive minutes all season and is clearly not 100%, so I'm not going to be too critical about that performance.

Have to feel good for Boeser, who got the monkey off his back last game and seems to have a lot more confidence in his shot, and is back to being in the flow of play. If he can keep this up for the last chunk of the season it'll be massive for their chances of fighting for that 8th spot.

They came out with a point in a game that they needed at least a point from and now they have to go into New York on Saturday and take care of business. This is clearly a flawed team, but there's still a lot of likeable personalities on it, so i'll enjoy each game and take the good with the bad, because I know how brutal it's going to be going 5 months without Canucks hockey.

With Pettersson and Boeser seemingly finding their games the past couple weeks, if Hughes and Demko can get relatively healthy and they can squeeze into the playoffs, they're definitely a sleeper team that can pull off an upset.

I think Tocchet needs to trust the rest of the team and sit the injured players, particularly Hughes. There are players that will step up.

Myers will always produce games like this where he makes inexplicable decisions that cost the team goals. Seems part of his DNA.

Good to get a point, and Hogs has really changed the look of the top line.

i only watched the highlights but i think i saw hughes on every goal against?

facepalm @myers on the 3-2 goal

nice to see brock scoring again

and binnington, three goals all high glove. but wasn’t his achilles heel high blocker when we killed him in the playoffs?

I disagree. Myers provides surplus value at 3 mill. He's a net positive.

They didn’t play it right, but Pettersson had been on the ice for a minute and a half and Hughes for more than two minutes when that play happened. They were both probably gassed at that point.

All Petey had to do was reverse the puck down ice, off the boards. Possession is king in OT, and trying to stick handle though three players was dumb. But it wasn’t just that play, he also gave up possession like two other times in OT which you just can’t have.

Thought it should have been a penalty in real time too. But the replay makes it look pretty blatant.

He had already been poked checked and lost possession before any trip which wasn’t great.

petey had three bluess players on him he should have passed it back regroup and at least changed.. boeser with a snipe holyyy reminded me of cody hodgson bardown goal against tim thomas in "game 8"/. need some more finishers put the kid lerramaki in.

Both EP and QH wanted to be the difference makers in OT, but should have changed instead. The biggest culprit on that goal was Debrusk though. Telegraphs he's going to change right in front of the Blues player with the puck. Don't know what he was thinking.

Hughes is such a driven competitor. You know that off-nights like tonight are killing him inside.

But if he can't do it physically, then I hope he can remain positive and upbeat. I pray he can take some solace that he's giving everything he can. But sometimes on the bench, it looks almost the exact opposite.

I have no idea what percentage he's at physically. My bet is no better than 70-75 percent. But Tocchet still rides him 30 minutes a night in a game like this. Even at 70 percent, he's still better than anything the Canucks have.

But after last season's Norris breakthrough, sometimes it just isn't your year. And I suspect for Hughes, this season can't end fast enough.
