I agree. One of the top 5-6 teams in the league for sure. Things go right in the playoffs and you never know.
Kings do not have the defense depth to go far in the playoffs.Carter isn't the missing piece on the fwd side either, another top 6 winger is or Richards type third line center is.Got to get one or the other to consider this team a elite team to contend for the cup.Same issue that's been holding this team up the last few years.

Which guy do you take out though? Incredible depth on that team.

Obviously Nashville lurkers we're not being serious about actually intentionality hurting someone.

Yeah, they have the depth, but like when we lost kopi, if you lose a top guy your f***ed

The defense I'll give you but how is Carter not the answer to the missing forward? Unless you're saying they need another forward on top of Carter.

Carter is absolutely the guy. Top scorer last year.

I wouldn’t trust MacDermid heading into in the playoffs. There is no doubt in my mind that they’ll add a veteran blueliner at some point between now and the trade deadline.

Yes plus Carter.I always say look back at both cup teams and look at that glue guys they had and leadership.Look at the roster as a whole. This team doesn't have a Williams,Mitchell,Greene,Richards. If a guy went down they could move guys around and patched. This team is hurting without Carter but Kempe is trying.

I can't think of a guy like that who is even available around the league though. Especially since you're suggesting it has to be a top-six guy with leadership, not just a forward with leadership, otherwise I'd say just go after Williams and a Carolina D-man like Faulk :P

Can Williams keep up with this team?If the answer is yes bring him back for a run.

Iafallo - Kopitar - Brown
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
Gaborik - Kempe - Lewis
Jokinen- Shore - Mitchell
That’s a strong playoff ready core...
Muzzin - Doughty
Forbort - Martinez
MacD - Folin - Fantenberg - Gravel - LaDue....
This defense needs a veteran stay at home Dman.... a Chara type guy

I'm sure he could in a depth role. He's not at all the top-six answer you're looking for.
He's a great depth guy and experience this leadership needs.I always pointed out the two holes on this team, but always said if you can't fill both, you got to at the very lease fill one hole.If you bring in a Williams depth move then you go after a top 4 defensemen.Got to fill one of the holes on this roster.Ontario doesn't hold the answer as much as people are putting stock in Ladue.

Im saying even with Carter, you need one more top 6 winger or a third line scorer that could play with Gabs and or top 4 defensemen.

Spending an asset on a winger makes no sense, the offense is fine. Remember the 2012 playoff run where they were steamrolling teams and scoring like crazy? They are actually scoring more than that now, sans Carter. A winger is a distant second to a D man. I think putting Kempe with Gaborik on the third would qualify as a scorer anyways.

Fishy this team doesn't have the core leadership or the experience as the two cup teams did.Kempe isn't Richards or is Forbort Slava or is Ladue or Frantenburg Greene or Willie Mitchell or is Folin Scuds.Theres no Williams on this team either. The team lacks leadership like the cup teams did.The team is at lease two players from a serious contender. You probably patch a top 6 winger or third line that can score for depth but you got to then fill that top 4 defensemen role.

I don't know what happened to Faulk, but every time I've seen him, he's a mess. Granted I've only watched about 5 Canes games, but whenever I noticed a guy out of position it often ended up being him. He looks nothing like he did a couple years ago.

He could just need a change of scenery. I doubt Carolina would entertain any offer without Clague or Vilardi included, anyways.

I just can't even think of teams that are/will be out of the race that will have desired assets. Maybe I'll take a stab:

Sabres: Bogosian, Kane? Girgensons? Pouliot?
DRW: Green, Helm?
Panthers: MacKenzie, Vrbata (dislike both), Petrovic, Pysyk (like both)
Sens: please no to Bobby Ryan, maybe Zack Smith/Pageau, Ceci is a popular name but i'm not a fan (or go ballistic and shoot for EK)
Flyers: Filppula, Lehtera?
Avs: Soderberg, Comeau? EJ?
Yotes: Goligoski?
Van: Tanev. Yes please.
