I don't know what happened to Faulk, but every time I've seen him, he's a mess. Granted I've only watched about 5 Canes games, but whenever I noticed a guy out of position it often ended up being him. He looks nothing like he did a couple years ago.

He could just need a change of scenery. I doubt Carolina would entertain any offer without Clague or Vilardi included, anyways.

Yup he's gonna be expensive for someone. I think he's just about done there though. They have too many up and coming guys.

Fishy this team doesn't have the core leadership or the experience as the two cup teams did.Kempe isn't Richards or is Forbort Slava or is Ladue or Frantenburg Greene or Willie Mitchell or is Folin Scuds.Theres no Williams on this team either. The team lacks leadership like the cup teams did.The team is at lease two players from a serious contender. You probably patch a top 6 winger or third line that can score for depth but you got to then fill that top 4 defensemen role.

Yes, but those leadership roles have been taken over by guys like Doughty and Lewis. I'm not worried about that part at all, there are plenty of guys on this team that have won it all and know what it takes. The 2012 team had what, 4 or so? This team has 10+. And comparing any defense to the one circa 2012 is an exercise in futility because that is hands down the best core this team has ever had, and we'll be lucky to see anything close to that in the next 20 years. I totally agree they need to plug that hole on D, but the leadership doesn't worry me in the slightest.

I just can't even think of teams that are/will be out of the race that will have desired assets. Maybe I'll take a stab:

Sabres: Bogosian, Kane? Girgensons? Pouliot?
DRW: Green, Helm?
Panthers: MacKenzie, Vrbata (dislike both), Petrovic, Pysyk (like both)
Sens: please no to Bobby Ryan, maybe Zack Smith/Pageau, Ceci is a popular name but i'm not a fan (or go ballistic and shoot for EK)
Flyers: Filppula, Lehtera?
Avs: Soderberg, Comeau? EJ?
Yotes: Goligoski?
Van: Tanev. Yes please.

I've always likes Pysyk's game. I think he would flourish in the Kings system, he just has that style that would fit in here. Solid positioning, excellent on the PK. I think he was mishandled by Buffalo and that set him back a bit, especially with regards to his transition game. I remember wanting the Kings to pick him if they went D or Bjugstad if they went offense, but they grabbed Forbort instead.

Other than playing like they'd rather be somewhere else again for the 2nd time in 5 games, if they keep putting up points and all that, you go all in as much as you can in a cap world. Who knows if Brown keeps things going next year for example. Strike while the iron is hot. If they can get another Cup out of this core, who cares about some of the future.

You never know what the future holds. In August, if Carter being hurt since the first 2 weeks of the season was a thought experiment, do we have the Kings in 1st place around Christmas? A year ago today, do we have them in 1st place today? After going out quietly to the Sharks in 2016, do we have them in 1st place today? It's an accomplishment just being ahead of Vegas on 12/22. That's in total points though. In points%, Vegas is, obviously, #1 in the West. That should go without saying.

For all this trade talk for a defenseman, MacD was great tonight. Rewatch the 1st and see him just be totally on top of it.

Not saying they can't get better back there, but the whole point of getting Mac this experience is to have him be a better player by April.

He was excellent early on. Still so funny to me watching people just bounce off him. His momentum carries him right through checks and seals people completely out of the play if he reads it right. And he's moving the puck very, very well in general for his whole NHL stint, at least much better than the AHL would ever have had anyone believe.

Really that's my only major beef with him, if he's out of position ever, he's boned. not agile enough to recover.

I missed some of the game, but was Brown's 1000 games played acknowledgement televised or was it held during a commercial break or something?

The beginning of the game they had a ceremony honoring Gabi getting his 1,000 games in but nothing for Brown. During the game the put up Browns career stats and talked about it pretty much all night and i believe in the second period they announced it and played something on the jumbo-tron for him. I assume last nights game was for Gabi and next game they'll do something for Brown prior to the start of the game. I mean...1,000 games all with the Kings and captained 2 cup winning teams...they gotta do something.

they do the celebration stuff on the first home game after the player's 1000th, so brownie will get his on the 28th i assume. i think they made a callout in the arena at a faceoff too, i think i remember seeing it on TV

Thanks. That's what I was thinking. This nice ceremony for Gaborik then just a jumbotron highlight reel for Brownie? Didn't make much sense, so I was curious.

I haven’t seen the TV replay yet, but I was at the game, and during one of the ice cleaning breaks Dave Joseph did announce the fact that it was Brown’s 1000th game. The crowd gave him a big round of applause, and even some Avs players gave him some stick taps.

from your list, i'd like to get Pysyk...

Brown will get a much deserved ceremony next Thursday before the game against Vegas. I think the one black mark on his resume is when he locked Sutter out of the lockerroom in Tampa Bay. If he indeed was the one who did that, which by accounts it is, that's a black mark to me. Nothing serious but it was unnecessary. Players only meetings happen all the time in sports. Locking a coach out of the lockerroom and barring it with trash cans? That doesn't happen. No question Sutter disliked Brown and did everything he could to make playing here miserable for him but locking Sutter out of the lockerroom was unnecessary in my opinion. Take whatever bullshit Sutter is going to throw at you after that game then organize a players only meeting later on. Drew too much unnecessary attention to the Kings.

As for Pysyk, not sure if I'm remembering correctly but I think the Kings had the option of taking McNabb or Pysyk in the trade with Buffalo but the Kings had Doughty- Voynov-Greene down the right side and needed that Mitchell replacement so they went with McNabb.

Overall I’ve really liked what I’ve seen from Mitchell since he was brought in.

Four points in nine games while also playing PK minutes and being strong on the draw at an astonishing 60.9%.

The only critique of him thus far is that I'd like to see him stay out of the box and reduce the number of infractions that he takes. He has a bit of Stoll in him and has been the perfect addition for the fourth line center role.
