Sather's list of greatest accomplishments as Rangers GM:

1.) Trading for Ryan McDonagh.
2.) Retiring.

This really made me laugh but also got me thinking - what else has he really done that was beneficial? Good RFA contract negotiator?

Jeff Gorton drafted Milan Lucic 8 years ago, therefore he is the most qualified GM for the job.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but he also traded Raycroft for Rask, drafted Kessel (Seguin + Hamilton), Marchand AND Lucic in one draft, and signed Chara...

Finally.

Look at the Phil Jackson move coming in for the Knicks, can only hope a change can come to us like that. If the Rags get a such change, then 2/3, who even knows with Dolan.

Whoooo... Praise the Lord if this holds water.

Out of all the journalists, Matheson is the closest to Sather. Sather for the longest time would not grant one of the NYC beat writers a long one on one interview... don't know if he still has... but Matheson seems to get one of those a year.

So if there is anyone that would have the scoop and be trustworthy, its him.

This is the year to do it. Team is at a crossroads more than ever. I hope Gorts takes over. The guy is ready for it, and will bring in elements that this team is missing.

No more reclamation projects! No more inconsistent and under performing players!!

No more thinking that the calendar still starts with 198...

Please please please let this be true.

C'Mon Slats, take those 5 rings, enjoy the warm weather year round, play golf every day, hang out at the country club, enjoy your retirement. Man's made enough and won enough that he can go enjoy himself.

Now let's get some competence in the front office baby whoooo

I will throw a week long party when he retires, and you are all invited. But my fear is that it gets worse after he leaves. The owner is part of the problem too.

Owner may be... but he is one that involves himself far more with basketball than hockey. Everyone can say what they want about the performance of his teams, and how he's treated some of his staff...

But he knows little about hockey, and doesn't interfere with hockey ops as much as people might like to believe.

Basketball on the other hand is a different story... Dolan doesn't have connections in the hockey world like he does with CAA and basketball.

Dolan liked Torts a lot. Torts was his guy, and he had a good relationship with him.. and believed in Torts brand of hockey...

The last time that Dolan insisted something happen with his hockey team was when Carcillo beat up Gaborik, and Dolan wanted a tough guy in the line up every game. He doesn't want his highest paid athletes having to worry about getting run... other than that, post lockout with the hard cap, he doesn't force moves to happen like he did earlier.

Far too reasoned & accurate, Mikos. Think you're creating work for yourself, from some of what Ive seen here LOL;

LOL Oh I know what's coming... degrees of thought don't apply here.

Everything's got a fence and you're either on one side or the other, yelling/preaching/condescending incessantly and not stopping no matter what.

If he does call it a day if Rangers make playoffs honestly I wouldnt care if we got bounced in the 1st round. 1 step back, 3 steps forward.

From what I can tell, it definitely seems that Sather does not want to deal with ANY of these contracts upcoming this summer.... that's just what it seems to me...

If that thinking is correct, then the reason that hank, McD, and G have been locked up is due to Gorton's thinkin, and Sather is just playing the "ok cool" game...

On the other hand...

It could be that Sather wants to try and win a cup with this team.... but I don't see us getting past the 2nd round

The Edmonton media(Matheson)were the first to report Sather was leaving Edmonton and headed to New York in 2000. It would make sense the same reporter would know if Sather was planning to retire. Hope its true.

If he does retire, would you want the Rangers to make a play at John Davidson if they were able to?

Gorton, Davidson or Bust is my feeling!

That would be an absolute dream scenario. Davidson is the architect behind the current Blues. He moved on because the Blues didn't want to pay him a $2M bonus or pay increase... something along those lines... it wasn't performance whatsoever.

He's righted the ship in CLB, a team that is missing a few elements from being a top tier organization, but they are close. He's been a Ranger through and through, as a goalie and as a broadcaster.

His family grew up here and NYC is sure as hell of a lot better than CLB. Even though CLB is a fine city, it's not NYC.

Ideal scenario would be to have JD here. Maybe Gorts as GM and JD as President.

This team would be built #TheRightWay.

Well if Sather does retire at some point (I'll believe it when I see it) the new GM will have a built in 'Get out of Jail Free' card. Down the road people will always be able to point to the 2013, 2014 and 2015 entry drafts, where we had a grand total of one first round and one second round draft pick in three years, as to why the new GM's hands were tied when trying to rebuild the team.

And what we have to show for those draft picks is Rich Nash and his $7.8 million cap hit through 2017-18, a small number of games from Ryan Clowe, and this year and next year of Marty St Louis.

Sather had to sacrifice the future not as the last piece(s) to a Stanley Cup champion, but to fortify teams so they can fight for the last few playoffs spot every year. And maybe not even make the playoffs this year. Pathetic.

Thanks Glen. Leave. Now.

It would be so Sather and Ranger like that he take a "lesser role" with the team and not just retire altogether. He'll need to hang on to some semblance of work life "consulting" with the future GM and company, via his fishing boat or golf cart in Banff.

I can't figure out what's worse, still having Sather as GM or having him be a retired half-assed consultant who just wants a golden paycheck every month, interjecting our new GM with bad advice.

How about just firing his ass for not winning a frigging thing in almost 15 years? No... that would make sense, and hockey's different here.

John Davidson: President
Jeff Gorton: GM

Sounds great, in thoery. Too good to be true.

Lets not forget Kekalainen, he's been just as influential - maybe more - than JD for both the Blues and Jackets

The Rangers missed the boat here when both were brought to Columbus.

This would be perfect, Gorton is talked a lot about the potential of being a gm, but president is a different ball game and that is what JD has experience with.

JD used to live in Armonk, I knew his daughters and used to drink with Dan Blackburn when he was living with him. We were underage then *shhhhh*

Would Davidson leave so soon after taking the Columbus job? I think its only his second year there.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Glen. Terrible GM. His greatest accomplishments came out of dumb luck. Drafting Lundqvist and trading a disaster in Gomez to dumb ass Gainey in exchange for McDonagh. The 2012 team was also fools gold the entire time. No one can win in the playoffs with that style of play. It's too taxing and takes away offense from a team that just wasn't that good offensively to begin with anyway.
