German football season 2023/24

Kane with two absolutely clinical 1st half goals.

He already has scored more goals than last season's league top scorer.

Kim didn't have the best of games, or at least he was unfortunate with the two bounces from his leg, without which the goals wouldn't have been scored but Neuer would have saved them instead.

Kobel had a good match for Dortmund before conceding the penalty. I don't particularly like those types of PKs being awarded, but since they are usually given, goalies should by now know better to not dive into those kind challenges trying to touch the ball. There's very little chance of scoring from those type of situations.

Some goalies already do, they just kind of follow alongside opponent, who then go on to lose or misfire the ball.

Fuhrich missed a penalty and shot another very good scoring chance past the post. I guess he is a decent option for the NT squad.

Trying to watch the Bundesliga be like...

Proud of the boys, even if Bayer deserves their lead.

Shame we didn't have another 40-50M to spend this summer, then we might've had the depth for the English weeks;
- Complete the Boniface deal when he was first rumored to us
- Get Skhiri instead of Tousart
- Loan in Wöber or Stanisic instead of Aaronson and keep Thorsby
- Bring in Baku instead of Bonucci so Trimmel can move to RCB

Becker/Fofana - Boniface/Behrens
Gosens/Roussillon - Laïdouni/Skhiri - Haberer/Thorsby/Schäfer - Juranovic/Baku
Khedira/Kral
Liete/Wöber - Knoche/Jaeckel - Doekhi/Trimmel
Rönnow

Yeah, they deserved a second goal…but it’s still a bummer that it came off a corner that never should have happened.
Yeah, that clearly went off the Leverkusen player. That said, Boniface probably should have had two himself in the first half.

Interesting that Union are sponsored by Paramount+ which is a rival streaming service to ESPN+, who carry the Bundesliga games here.

Fischer and Union have finally parted ways. U19 coach Marco Grote will step in with Marie-Louise Eta staying his co-trainer (assistant manager) like she had been with the U19s. Eta will thus be the first female co-trainer in BuLi history.

Well, technically it's the German version of Paramount+ they're advertising. They have no sports content and are available via the BuLi's primary TV partner Sky.

I think it's a different scenario than Chelsea's because of the Premier League's broader global reach (especially in the U.S.). If Chelsea wear a Paramount Plus logo on their kit it's probably aimed at Americans to a significant degree, and of course in the U.S. Paramount+ does show a ton of sports (incl. soccer) and is directly competing with NBC/Peacock.

It's the end of the honeymoon for Union in the BuLi. I'm not following the ins and outs of the club, so this is a bit speculative, but I wonder if adding more expensive, high profile players like Gosens, Volland or Bonucci was a mistake. It seems like the club's main calling card was team cohesiveness, soundness and spirit. I could see how that may suffer if the team's wage structure gets a little tweaked, and the expensive players don't play so much better than the rest that the wage difference is justifiable internally.

Yeah, it's the end of an era. But there doesn't seem to be any dissension in the locker-room as everyone seems broken up about Fischer having to leave. It's probably more about the combination of our depth being stretched by the English weeks & injuries, and the gods of xG luck catching up to us.

It helps that Volland and Bonucci were brought in as much for their experience on the practice ground as their play on the pitch...despite injuries forcing Bonucci into more action than anticipated...while Gosens has been one of the few players we have who is having a strong season and perfectly fits the Union ethos.

Nah. That would get incredibly obnoxious, as anyone who watches the last two minutes of a basketball game would know

It doesn't happen that often that a corner needs to be checked and it doesn't take long, especially because they'd just be checking who it went off of not whether an offense met certain criteria. I'd be thrilled for the BuLi to introduce it.

Yeah, for the majority of them it would be easy. For a handful, if would be a three minute process. And if you look at corners, you have to look at throw-ins.

A) And?
B) I just think this leads to much more fractured (and long) games.

Goals are the reason we finally brought VAR in, so how likely a mistake is to lead to a goal is directly connected to how important it is to correct it.

I don't have that problem at all watching the BuLi and the Tottenham-Chelsea game being the only EPL match I've watched this season, I can't comment on how VAR is done in that league because I'm going to assume not every match is that much of a s***show
